We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Legal (Director level) to lead our legal function across Southeast Asia. As the Head of Legal, you will be responsible for shaping the legal, regulatory, and governance infrastructure that supports our growth across five markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
You will serve as a key strategic advisor to the team, working closely with commercial, product, operations and compliance to navigate legal complexity across markets. Your mandate is to enable responsible innovation and growth while protecting the company’s interests, guiding legal input across product design, commercial structuring, regulatory engagement, and strategic initiatives such as fundraising.
What you will do:
- Lead and scale the regional legal function , overseeing in-house counsels and managing external legal partners across all operating markets.
- Play a critical role in driving the company’s path to profitability by enabling compliant yet commercially viable business models, proactively managing legal risk exposure, and leading cost-effective legal operations at scale.
- Provide strategic legal guidance on digital lending, payments, embedded finance, and product innovation — ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory frameworks.
- Review, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements , including those related to partnerships, product innovation, data sharing, platform integrations, secured lending, and IP.
- Proactively manage regulatory interactions and licensing requirements, particularly in high-impact markets.
- Advise on and manage litigation or enforcement processes , especially for secured lending and litigation-led collections.
- Own legal risk management related to data privacy, consumer protection, anti-bribery, and cross-border operations.
- Support corporate strategic events , such as M&A, fundraising etc, with a focus on entity structure, due diligence, and board governance.
- Drive adoption of legal technology and automation tools to improve the Legal team’s overall effectiveness.
What we are looking for:
- 12+ years of relevant legal experience, including regional experience in Southeast Asia; a mix of law firm and in-house experience is highly valued.
- Legal qualifications in Singapore, Malaysia, or other common law jurisdictions; admission to practice is preferred.
- Experience working within or advising on civil law jurisdictions (e.g., Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam) is highly preferred.
- Good understanding of regulatory environments across Southeast Asia, with expertise in both developed and emerging markets
- Strong experience in financial services, fintech, digital lending and/ or payments is preferred.
- Proven ability to balance commercial pragmatism with legal integrity in high-growth, cross-functional environments.
- Experience managing legal teams and external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
- Exceptional judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

- Draft, review and negotiate sales contracts, other commercial agreements and legal documents to support business objectives while ensuring legal compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the Compliance team to uphold the KONE Code of Conduct.
- Proactively identify, prevent and mitigate legal and contractual risks through effective preventive legal strategies.
- Support the business in managing and responding to contractual claims and disputes to safeguard KONE’s interests.
- Proactively protect and enforce KONE’s rights in all business dealings.
- Provide strategic oversight on legal disputes, legal proceedings and investigations, including selection and management of external counsel.
- Implement global and regional legal policies.
- Maintain strong internal relationships across functions to understand business needs and share best practices across the organization.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to provide strategic legal guidance that supports business growth while ensuring an acceptable level of legal risk.
- Stay abreast of developments in Malaysian law, regulations and legal market practices that may impact KONE’s operations.
- A relevant Law degree with at least 10 years of experience in a multinational company and/or a leading law firm.
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian laws, regulations and market practices
- Fluency in both English and Malay is required; proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage.
- The ability to assess and improve legal processes, recommending and driving change where necessary.
- A proven track record of leading and developing legal teams
- Excellent negotiation, leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across various functions and influence senior stakeholders.
- High levels of integrity, adaptability, and work ethic, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

Job Description
- The candidate will oversee all legal and secretarial matters of the Group pertaining to the organisation’s business strategy and operations. This includes safeguarding the organisation’s interest, provide legal leadership and maintaining a robust legal framework.
- Draft, analyse and negotiate contracts, agreements, and all other types of legal documents.
- Participate in meetings, discussions and negotiations on legal matters and business dealings including due diligence, corporate restructuring, joint ventures and financing.
- Liaise with external solicitors on all legal matters involving the organisation.

Job Description
The candidate will oversee all legal and secretarial matters of the Group pertaining to the organisation’s business strategy and operations. This includes safeguarding the organisation’s interest, provide legal leadership and maintaining a robust legal framework.
Duties And Responsibilities
Draft, analyse and negotiate contracts, agreements, and all other types of legal documents. Participate in meetings, discussions and negotiations on legal matters and business dealings including due diligence, corporate restructuring, joint ventures and financing. Liaise with external solicitors on all legal matters involving the organisation. Provide advisory on a broad range of legal topics and managing queries from various internal stakeholders, ensuring that the company’s interests are protected from a legal standpoint. Identify, evaluate and resolve legal issues in contracts, litigation, and other commercial matters. Review and establish sound legal guidelines, policies and processes in line with business direction. Keep abreast on all laws and regulatory developments relevant to the organisation, and provide timely advice on any impending impact. Act as the custodian of all legal documents and contracts; the reference point for all contractual obligations of the organisation. Liaise with external company secretary for statutory records and compliance matters of the group, Work with external company secretary for drafting/vetting resolutions, compilation, and circulation of board of directors. Any other tasks assigned by superior.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Law.
Work Experience
Minimum 10 years’ of working experience in legal practice or in-house counsel. Experience in relevant legal areas such as corporate, commercial, litigation and conveyancing
Technical And Professional Knowledge
Articulate with excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills Possess strong research, writing, analytical skills

What will you be doing?
Lead, coach, and develop the local legal team to ensure that legal activities are conducted efficiently, ethically and in alignment with KONE’s internal policies and standards. Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate, commercial and regulatory issues. Draft, review and negotiate sales contracts, other commercial agreements and legal documents to support business objectives while ensuring legal compliance. Collaborate closely with the Compliance team to uphold the KONE Code of Conduct. Proactively identify, prevent and mitigate legal and contractual risks through effective preventive legal strategies. Support the business in managing and responding to contractual claims and disputes to safeguard KONE’s interests. Proactively protect and enforce KONE’s rights in all business dealings. Provide strategic oversight on legal disputes, legal proceedings and investigations, including selection and management of external counsel. Implement global and regional legal policies. Maintain strong internal relationships across functions to understand business needs and share best practices across the organization. Engage with internal stakeholders to provide strategic legal guidance that supports business growth while ensuring an acceptable level of legal risk. Stay abreast of developments in Malaysian law, regulations and legal market practices that may impact KONE’s operations.
Are you the one?
A relevant Law degree with at least 10 years of experience in a multinational company and/or a leading law firm. Strong knowledge of Malaysian laws, regulations and market practices Fluency in both English and Malay is required; proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage. The ability to assess and improve legal processes, recommending and driving change where necessary. A proven track record of leading and developing legal teams Excellent negotiation, leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across various functions and influence senior stakeholders. High levels of integrity, adaptability, and work ethic, with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. Experience working in fast-paced, matrixed environments and managing complex legal and business challenges. Willingness to travel within Malaysia and across the region when required. Experience in the construction industry is a strong plus.

Position Overview: The Head, Legal & Cosec, will manage the comprehensive legal and secretarial functions for our client. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be pivotal in providing strategic advice to the Board and senior management.

You will manage and provide strategic legal and company secretary advice to the board and senior management. As part of a financially stable, government-backed organization, you will gain exposure to complex transactions, including fund investments, co-investments, EPC contracts, and PPAs. This role offers exceptional professional growth by driving compliance, mitigating risks, and directly enabling business expansion in a future-centric sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise on structuring and executing fund investments, co-investments, and other transactions, balancing commercial and legal aspects.
Manage legal & company secretarial functions, providing strategic advice to the board and senior management.
Review and negotiate industry-specific and general commercial contracts, including EPC, PPA, NDA, and SPV documents.
Conduct legal research and analysis, staying updated on new regulations, especially related to renewable technology investments.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, corporate governance standards, and local laws, including drafting and vetting legal documents.
Manage and support dispute and litigation matters, coordinating external counsel.
Execute legal and compliance strategies, collaborating with senior management on public policy issues.
Work closely with Business Development, Technical, and other teams to identify and mitigate legal risks.
Support business growth by providing compliance policies and strategic/operational legal guidance to senior management.
Liaise with internal and external legal advisers to ensure compliance and achieve business objectives.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Law or a related discipline is essential.
Experience of around 10-15 years from infrastructure development/construction, power generation, renewables or green energy industry.
Demonstrated expertise in legal knowledge, regulatory requirements, and relevant acts.
Proven proficiency in detail orientation, commercial awareness, and negotiation skills.
Deep understanding and experience with Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Contract Management (EPC), and Company Secretarial support functions are critical.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively at Senior/Top Management level, influencing through logic and facts.
