Overview

Provide strategic leadership and oversee all nursing operations within the healthcare facility to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care while managing and developing the nursing staff.

Job Descriptions
  • Organize, direct and coordinate with the other services in the Facility to ensure smooth workflow to always facilitate the continuity of safe and quality patient care; whilst achieving optimal client satisfaction.
  • Perform daily unit/ward rounds to visit patients in the wards when possible, conduct random night rounds, monitor progress of patients (especially post-operative and critical patients), be informed of potential litigation cases, visit patients following adverse events, evaluate nursing care rendered, advise Unit Manager/Nurse-In-Charge where and when necessary, and advise Deputy CNO/NM on situational problems encountered on site.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with the Nursing Management Team to discuss issues related to the operations of the Nursing Services to improve service delivery and resolve pertinent issues.
  • Attend ward/unit meetings as an advisor to improve the unit’s operations/services.
  • Present data and analysis of incidents, deviations from best practices, clinical indicators, etc. at hospital clinical committee meetings to improve operations.
  • Participate in Heads of Services (HOS) meetings chaired by CEO/GM/OM; work towards common goals.
  • Monitor daily 24-hour nursing reports for significant incidents; follow up visits, deploy staff to busy units, or render assistance as required.
  • Submit monthly nursing service reports (nursing statistics, performances, activities, improvements, and achievements) to the Group Chief Nursing Officer and CEO/GM for service updates.
  • Monitor, follow up closely and report any adverse events within 24 hours to KPJ Head Office, Group Chief Nursing Officer, and relevant parties for timely resolutions.
Human Resource and Development
  • Participate in recruitment, interviews and selection of nursing staff to ensure appropriate manpower for optimal capability and competency.
  • Review and monitor key orientation programs for new staff to ensure alignment with policies, SOPs and work requirements.
  • Create and maintain a conducive working environment that encourages quality patient care and patient/staff satisfaction.
  • Provide and participate in continuous nursing education (CNE) programs; organize in-service training for nurses to update knowledge and skills; motivate Unit Managers and staff to pursue post-basic courses, Bachelor/Master programs, etc.
  • Assess and appraise job performances of Nursing Management Team for promotion and confirmation of services.
  • Cooperate with KPJ Healthcare University regarding student nurses’ clinical training and renewal of annual practicing certificates for trained nurses.
  • Organize annual leave plans and duty roster of the nursing management team to ensure optimum staff utilization.
  • Coach and motivate the team to engage in their work and address patient, relative and staff complaints using appropriate communication channels; monitor and counsel staff with performance issues or non-compliance with policies and ethics before disciplinary action.
Policies and Procedures
  • Review and initiate revision of hospital and nursing policies and procedures as needed.
  • Implement established Nursing Policies and Procedures and ensure staff comply with quality and safety systems (e.g., MS ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Patient Safety Goals and National Nursing Audits, etc.).
  • Initiate regular audits on adherence to policies and procedures of quality and safety systems.
Facilities and Equipment
  • Monitor all Unit Managers.
  • Keep accurate records of all equipment, medical supplies and drugs in their units.
  • Ensure Biomedical equipment is calibrated and serviced according to service contracts.
  • Follow up with Unit Managers/Biomedical personnel on compliance to the Preventive/Predictive Maintenance schedules.
  • Collaborate with end users to prepare proposals justifying purchases of biomedical equipment and medical/surgical supplies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers/vendors to provide training on equipment and supplies.
Safety and Quality Improvement Activities
  • Promote activities contributing to continuous improvement of the nursing service (Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Fire and Safety programs).
  • Facilitate quality initiatives and improvement activities in the facility.
  • Monitor staff adherence to quality and safety systems, Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives, and Standard People Practice.
  • Adopt and promote Patient Safety Goals as recommended by safety authorities.
  • Monitor incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis; initiate corrective/preventive actions.
  • Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act requirements and maintain a safe working environment.
Job Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with valid Annual Practicing Certificate from Nursing Board of Malaysia
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Any post-basic in nursing recognized by the Nursing Board of Malaysia
  • Preferably hold a master’s degree or enroll in a master’s program within two years of promotion

  • Collaborate with ward staff to ensure patients arrive at the OT on time, thereby optimizing the utilization of the OT.
  • Adhere to Patient Safety Goals; Save Surgery Save Live involves accurately identifying patients, preparing them for procedures, checking patients with staff, noting abnormalities, and referring patients to the surgeon and anesthetist if necessary.
  • Escort patients into the operating rooms safely and record all cases in the Operation Theatre Record Book.
  • Check and label specimens properly after each case, confirming with the surgeon if necessary before sending them to the laboratory or pathology services.
  • Provide personalized, holistic patient care using the nursing process approach, maintain accurate documentation in patient folders, and promptly report any abnormal findings to relevant doctors or consultants.
  • Evaluate patients, provide emotional support and accompany doctors while rounds, as well as assist in procedures as needed.
  • Execute the doctor's orders, coordinate with team members related to the patient’s treatment, and foster effective communication with all disciplines, patients, and relatives to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Engage in the health education of patients and their families, unit meetings, dialogue sessions, and hospital activities.

Education
  • Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing.
  • Registered with the Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Post Basic qualification in a related field.
Knowledge And Experiences
  • Registered Nurse with at least 3 years of clinical experience and diversity in clinical experience.
Skills & Competencies

Job Description

The Staff Nurse is part of our Care Operations and Quality team that is experienced in nursing and carries out various types of nursing care, procedures, and methodologies in different settings, including home care services, with emphasis on the care recipient's needs.

Asides from home care, the nurse will also be responsible in attending to ad-hoc tasks, projects and assignments as and when required by Homage including but not limited to medical product usage, administration and maintenance of device, patient education and counselling, public health education, project-based medical assignment etc.

When not being based in the hospital ward, the nurse is to be flexible to perform care & nursing duties in other care settings including but not limited to home care, hospital, facility-based care etc as assigned by Homage

In this role, the Staff Nurse strives to ensure that the overall care recipient’s experience is handled seamlessly and delivered with high quality.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Min. 1 year nursing experience in General (Medical / Surgical) hospital ward setting or equivalent

  • Cooperate with Principal and Nurse Lecturers/ Instructors of KPJ Healthcare University pertaining to student nurses’ clinical training and monitor to ensure renewal of all annual practicing certificates of trained nurses are being carried out.
  • Organize annual leave plans and duty roster of the nursing management team to ensure optimum staff utilization.
  • Coach, guide and motivate the team to ensure they are engaged to perform their job and able to solve complaints concerning patients, relatives and staff using the appropriate communication channels, as well as monitor and counsel staff with performance issues or violates Hospital Policies and Procedures or not complying with nursing standards and code of ethics before recommending appropriate disciplinary action.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
  • Review and initiate revision of hospital and nursing policies and procedures when and as necessary.
  • Implement the established Nursing Policies and Procedures and ensure all staff comply to all policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems, e.g. MS ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Patient Safety Goals and National Nursing Audits, and any other quality system that the hospital subscribes to e.g. Malaysian Hospital Accreditation Standards, Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards HACCP Netherlands, etc.
  • Initiate random/regular audit on adherence and compliance to policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
  • Monitor all Unit Managers:
  • Keep accurate records of all equipment, medical supplies and drugs in their respective units.
  • All Biomedical equipment are calibrated and serviced according to the service contract.
  • Follow up with the Unit Managers /Biomedical person in charge on the compliance to the PPM schedule according to the plans
  • Collaborate with the end users i.e., the nurses, consultants and biomedical staff/ Pharmacist/Purchasing Officer to prepare the proposal to justify for the purchase of any biomedical equipment/medical & surgical supplies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers/vendors to provide training regarding the use of equipment/medical & surgical supplies.
SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
  • Promote activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of the nursing service, e.g., Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Fire and Safety program.
  • Advise and facilitate quality initiatives and improvement activities in the Facility.
  • Monitor staffs to ensure adherence to policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems, Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives, Standard People Practice.
  • Adopt and promote the Patient Safety Goals as safety improvement measures recommended by World Alliance for Patient Safety (2008).
  • Monitor incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis are being carried out and corrective/preventive actions initiated.
  • Carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994: To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons, to co-operate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty, to wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer and comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Nurse with valid Annual Practicing Certificate from Nursing Board of Malaysia
  • Bachelor of nursing
  • Any post basic in nursing that is recognized by Nursing Board of Malaysia
  • Preferably hold a master’s degree or enroll in a master’s program within two years of promotion
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as Nursing leaders
