At GovTech, we offer you a purposeful career to make lives better where we empower our people to master their craft through robust learning and development opportunities all year round.

Play a part in Singapore’s vision to build a Smart Nation and embark on your meaningful journey to build tech for public good. Join us to advance our mission and shape your future with us today!

Learn more about GovTech at tech.gov.sg.

(What you will be working on)

About the Design Practice at GovTech

The Design Practice is on a mission to make lives better for citizens, businesses, and the public sector by activating human-centred design as a core organisational capability in GovTech. We believe that technology can be a force for public good by putting people at the heart of what we do.

We set high design standards, promote best practices, and support GovTech teams in applying human-centred design across the product development lifecycle. Our focus is not just on doing design well, but on making sure design actively shapes what gets built—and why.

To achieve this, we invest in our designers’ growth, equipping them with the tools, guidance, and community they need to thrive. We are building more hands-on support systems, whether by training and/or hiring design managers or by ensuring our team structures enable better oversight. We also cultivate a strong learning culture that encourages experimentation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

We work to build deep partnerships with product managers, engineers, and senior leadership—ensuring that design is not an afterthought, but a strategic input from the start. Whether we’re advising on complex policy-driven challenges or improving everyday digital touchpoints, we help teams understand complex ecosystems of users and their needs, so that we can design with impact.

By embedding design from the core of decision-making to development, we aim to deliver better public services—and to grow a practice that shapes not only what government builds, but how it builds it. If you're passionate about using design to drive systemic change, this is where your work will matter.

What you will do as a Principal Designer, Design Practice

You work to influence and lead design direction at the highest level in the organisation. You work with program leadership and cross-functionally with peers to help achieve the overall objectives of the Design Practice.

  • Work with senior leaders, program leaders, agency leaders, and agency product owners on the complex problem of introducing or ensuring the continuous and valuable presence of design across product phases, from discovery through delivery, and into measurement and iteration. This might include everything from building new partnership models to interviewing designers to working with agencies to better understand policy requirements and organizational obstacles to prioritizing and implementing human-centered design.
  • Contribute to a body of work on measuring design impact. This includes writing white papers, developing frameworks for measurement, working with teams and designers to test and implement methods and metrics, and building case studies that highlight how design impact metrics differ from traditional product metrics.
  • Interface with peers in engineering and product practices as well as with teams on the ground to build and integrate best practices for collaboration in product development.
  • Work with consulting and/or product teams as needed to help deconstruct and re-design system complexity into usable, inclusive and coherent experiences that align with policy, tech and operational realities.
  • Lead work in setting standards for design processes, methodology and outputs, as well as to develop successful strategies for implementing these standards and processes to improve the quality of GovTech’s design work. The outputs might include guides, white papers, videos, roadshows, etc.
  • Evangelise and lead in systems thinking and design-led problem-solving in GovTech to expand the sphere of influence of design across GovTech and across the WoG.
  • Coach and mentor designers.
  • Actively investigate new tools, methods and processes to improve designer engagement and output.

(What we are looking for)

Required qualifications, skills and mindset:

  • Diploma, bachelor’s degree or higher in industrial design, interaction design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), visual arts or similar.
  • 12 - 15 years experience working in design across multiple industries, 6 of which in a position of influence or leadership.
  • Strong empathy for people and a desire to advocate for their needs.
  • Passion for making sense of complex, ambiguous challenges.
  • Strong initiative and follow through for positive outcomes and long-term value.
  • Strategic thinker (strong analytical and synthetic thinking, with ability to handle ambiguity) and a proven ability to drive strategic initiatives in your work.
  • Proven ability to work seamlessly with senior leaders and ability to influence through trust, clarity, and collaboration.
  • Experience working in cross-functional delivery teams with a track record of leading cross-functional discovery and shaping product direction based on insight and iteration.
  • Strong evidence of partnership with fellow functional leaders and/or stakeholders in driving products towards common goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and persuasively.
  • Initiative to help designers learn, adapt and grow in the UX field. Expert in design methodology and a keen eye for detail.
  • Deep understanding of methods to elicit insights from users.
  • Deep understanding of how people engage with (digital) systems.

ABOUT VAYNERX

ABOUT VAYNERMEDIA
VaynerMedia is a contemporary global creative and media agency with an expertise in driving relevance for clients and delivering impactful business results. The independently-owned company was founded in 2009 by Gary Vaynerchuk, and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Mexico City, London, Amsterdam, Singapore, Delhi, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Sydney. VaynerMedia has been recognized for its work at Cannes Lions, the Clio Awards and The Webby Awards. It is part of the VaynerX family of companies.

Culture is our key and Empathy is how we build it. VaynerMediaAPAC is strong with a world-class combination of diverse backgrounds collaborating to put forward innovative, creative and strategic solutions to the one advantage that stands the test of time --- PEOPLE. Day in and day out, we propel some of the biggest brands in the world to the intersection of attention and culture. In APAC, we are proudly +300, servicing a diverse client all around the region.

The PITCH
We are creators, creative industry rogues, and SuperBowl stars. We are not just on the internet; we are creating the stuff the internet wants to see. We're insane for what we do and the people we do it with. We move so fast and make so much good shit that we can't even keep up with ourselves. So, we need more folks just like us, the unconventional, less-obvious, unseasoned (or over seasoned ) creative pros. But above all - passionate makers and culture shakers.

Want in? We love subversive artists, obsessive makers, dedicated creators and we don't care if you're a baby fresh to the workforce or working on your third act. What's your hustle? Documentarian? DJ? Sports junkie? Fashionista? Blogger? Vlogger? Retired logger? Are you an Insta-feind? An unabashed Tik Tokker or Youtuber? Or both? We're down with all of that. Just as long as you love making content and are really good at it.

This is a full time role based in Malaysia with a reporting role to the Country Manager in Malaysia.

Are you based in Malaysia? Geeking the content religiously in the Malaysian market? Fluent in Malay? Oh well, we could be meant to be ---

We're looking for a Creative Director who lives and breathes beauty, lifestyle, and social storytelling.

Who You Are

You're not just a creative thinker—you're a creator. Your portfolio isn't a PDF; it's living and breathing on social. You've built audiences, driven engagement, and turned cultural insights into breakthrough creative work. If your social handles can win you an interview, you're already one foot in.

What You'll Do
  1. Lead, Make, Repeat: You're not just here to direct; you're in the trenches, making daily. You lead by getting your hands dirty—concepting, writing, designing, and even editing when needed. You move fast, iterate, and set the creative pace for the team.
  2. Editor-in-Chief Mindset: You understand people, what they care about, and what's happening in the culture of beauty and lifestyle. You don't just follow trends—you predict, shape, and react to them in real time.
  3. Social Performance Obsessed: You don't just make creative—you study how it performs, why it works (or doesn't), and turn those insights into sharper, more effective ideas.
  4. Culture-First, Not Ad-First: You know that most times, the best work isn't an ad. It's a conversation, a movement, or a moment people actually care about. You have the instinct to create things that feel native, human, and worth engaging with.
  5. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with strategy, media, and production teams to ensure ideas don't just look good, but work.
  6. Pitch & Present: Sell ideas to clients with confidence, backed by cultural insights and platform knowledge.
What You Need
  • A strong, social-native portfolio showcasing your work in beauty and lifestyle (If you don't have one, build one).
  • 6+ years in an agency or brand-side creative role, with at least 2 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven track record of building brand love on social.
  • Deep understanding of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging platforms—you know what works and why.
  • Ability to concept, write, and direct with agility—whether it's a full-fledged campaign or a reactive meme.
  • Experience working with production teams, creators, and influencers to bring ideas to life.
  • A POV on what's next in beauty, lifestyle, and digital culture.
  • Your personal or past brand work has built an audience, driven engagement, or gone viral.
  • You have beauty and lifestyle experience (brand or agency side).
  • You can sell an idea in 15 seconds or less.
  • You have social-at-the-centre craft and aesthetics—knowing how to create for the feed, for the scroll, and for engagement, not just a polished 30-second film.
  • If your socials can get you an interview, you're already ahead. Drop your handles, show us what you've got, and let's talk.
What you should know about VaynerMedia

Think "lab" and not "agency". We get excited about solving business problems, not creating advertising for the sake of making advertising. Our entrepreneurship DNA runs deep. We're willing to break rules, try new things, and test hypotheses if it means better understanding our craft. It's fun!

Our environment (and pace) feels much more like a start-up than most agencies you might be used to. Hopefully that, and the opportunity to collaborate with the talented and enthusiastic crew, work with big brands excites you, as it does us. We can't wait to meet you.

P.S Portfolio would be nice :)
