Alliances Field Engineer

to help our biggest partners (companies like Intel, Nvidia, Google, Dell, HP, Accenture, Tata and the like) understand and embrace our open source platform for themselves and their customers.

Our worldwide field engineering team apply expert insights to real-world customer problems, enabling the enterprise adoption of Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AI/MLOps and a wide range of associated technologies. We are experts in the whole open source stack, from kernel to desktop, from cloud to the edge. Our team is also interested in business problems - building things reliably, efficiently and cost-effectively, and we have to learn to speak the language of our customers and their industries.

We help global companies embrace public and private cloud infrastructure, cloud native operations, and open source applications. For this team we are looking for several Alliances Engineers to support OEM (hardware manufacturers), GSI (global system integrators), ISV (independent software vendors), Channel partners and Public Cloud alliance partners. You will support various alliances and partners of Canonical to adopt our products and technologies, help business leaders to define joint go-to-market programs with partners from the technical standpoint.

What your day will look like

Understand Ubuntu, Linux, networking and services in real-world environments Architect cloud infrastructure solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark either On-Premises or in Public Cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) Architect and integrate popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra and NGINX Help partners to offer and architect joint solutions utilizing Canonical's technologies on top of the public clouds and in the data center Design and publish joint Reference Architectures and perform technical validations with various partners Prepare and run onboarding sessions/workshops with various partners' teams to promote Canonical products and solutions

Field Mechanical Engineer

The position requires

bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese.

In the position, you will use your engineering expertise to provide technical construction support, oversee the construction, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems in the field, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with project specifications for the high voltage substation project. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering principles, and engineering standards.

Job Description:

Field Support: Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting, and support for mechanical systems at project sites. Project Execution: Assist in the practical implementation of electrical designs and specifications, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets. Compliance: Ensure that electrical systems and installations comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations. Documentation: Contribute to project documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications. Collaboration: Work effectively with project teams, operations staff, and subcontractors to ensure project success. Site Assessment: Conduct site visits to assess project feasibility, identify potential issues, and develop solutions. Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during project execution, ensuring operational reliability and safety. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality control and assurance activities to ensure that electrical systems meet project requirements and industry standards. Risk Management: Assist in identifying and mitigating potential risks related to electrical systems and installations. Training and Mentoring: Provide technical guidance and training to project teams and operations staff, as needed.

Qualifications

Candidate must be bi-lingual in English and Mandarin. Be based in Taiwan. Be in the field directly at the project site. Bachelors or Masters Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or similar. Built up working experience can be considered. Minimum of 5 years' experience with high voltage substation projects. Experience and knowledge of all of the main HSE project management concepts, tools and techniques. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and high-pressure environment, to meet often tight deadlines, and to work pro-actively as part of a committed team. Strong leadership, communication & interpersonal skills. Understanding of relevant local and international codes, standards, and regulations. Computer/IT knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project tool, Conference call and Internet skills.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Provide Technical Field Advice, Supervision and perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, refurbishment, and repair of high voltage transmission equipment and systems in the field.
  • Conduct solving and diagnostics of high voltage transmission equipment to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to customers, field service engineers, and other internal collaborators (including offer and project management teams)and collaborate with engineering and Sales & PM teams to provide feedback and recommendations for product improvements and modifications.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to field service activities, including service reports, time sheets, maintenance logs, method statements, HSE reports, and equipment records.
  • Acts as the Siemens Energy representative on site, coordinating responsible job scope and giving final approval and sign-off for works completed at site and train and mentor junior field service engineers
  • Provide training to customers on routine maintenance tasks and gives to internal and external customer happiness by driving service work according to customer order and expectations
  • Applies and adheres to Quality and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols and regulations while working on high voltage transmission systems and equipment.


What You Bring

  • Electrical Degree or equivalent experience with more than 4 years’ working experience in field service engineering within the high voltage transmission industry (including ‘hands-on’ experience with new installations and service)
  • In-depth knowledge of high voltage transmission equipment, such as transformers, AIS & GIS switchgear, circuit breakers, and related control systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and software (including remote headset technology) used in the high voltage transmission industry.
  • Strong problem-solving and fixing skills, with the ability to work independently in demanding field environments.
  • Ability to improvise and willingness to experience unpredictable situations
  • Any certification related to Siemens Energy GIS, AIS, or power transformers would be an added advantage.
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally to various field locations and work flexible hours as needed

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

To perform field service (customer site service) activities involving the installation supervision, commissioning, maintaining, modification, onsite training, system upgrade and repair of complex Gutor AC & DC UPS equipment. Responsible for a region or subgroup of field services. Performs installation supervision and commissioning of Gutor products including the batteries. Performs maintenance for Gutor UPS equipment including batteries. Trains customers on equipment operation and maintenance of Gutor products. Represents Gutor in dealing with customer concerns. Responsible for identifying and reporting failure modes encountered when in the field. Also responsible for determining the cause of these failures. Solve UPS problems at customers site and provides reports on these issues. Providing 24hrs telephone support for customers. Acquisition of Customer Service products.

SECONDARY DUTIES

Support internal for spare parts warranty, preparation, assembly, onsite training and etc. Improve on site report and process.

EDUCATION—MINIMUM REQUIRED LEVEL:

Degree/Diploma in Electrical / Electronic engineering Computer literacy is necessary.

EXPERIENCE—MINIMUM REQUIRED:

2-3 yrs exp. in Oil & Gas sector, Power Generation or UPS technical experience is an added advantage. Fresh graduate in Electrical / Electronic engineering. Willing to travel up to 90% within international (onshore & offshore). Computer literate and fluent in spoken English and others country language will add advantage.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS —REQUIRED:

Demonstrated ability to function successfully across multiple cultures and nationalities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. Ability to interface with all functional areas of the company. Global flair Microsoft Office – Excel, Word and Power Point.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS — DESIRED BUT NOT ESSESTIAL:

Every other language is an advantage. Technical and practical knowledge of UPS systems in commercial or industry type. Knowledge of Innorsoft, and Siebel/Orcacle CX and SAP will be add advantage. Knowledge of site report preparation process is a plus.

Job Summary:

The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing on-site technical support, maintenance, and repair services for a range of equipment and systems. How You’ll Make An Impact

Provide Technical Field Advice, Supervision and perform installation, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, refurbishment, and repair of high voltage transmission equipment and systems in the field. Conduct solving and diagnostics of high voltage transmission equipment to identify and resolve technical issues. Provide technical support and expertise to customers, field service engineers, and other internal collaborators (including offer and project management teams)and collaborate with engineering and Sales & PM teams to provide feedback and recommendations for product improvements and modifications. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation related to field service activities, including service reports, time sheets, maintenance logs, method statements, HSE reports, and equipment records. Acts as the Siemens Energy representative on site, coordinating responsible job scope and giving final approval and sign-off for works completed at site and train and mentor junior field service engineers Provide training to customers on routine maintenance tasks and gives to internal and external customer happiness by driving service work according to customer order and expectations Applies and adheres to Quality and HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols and regulations while working on high voltage transmission systems and equipment.

What You Bring

Electrical Degree or equivalent experience with more than 4 years’ working experience in field service engineering within the high voltage transmission industry (including ‘hands-on’ experience with new installations and service) In-depth knowledge of high voltage transmission equipment, such as transformers, AIS & GIS switchgear, circuit breakers, and related control systems. Proficiency in diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and software (including remote headset technology) used in the high voltage transmission industry. Strong problem-solving and fixing skills, with the ability to work independently in demanding field environments. Ability to improvise and willingness to experience unpredictable situations Any certification related to Siemens Energy GIS, AIS, or power transformers would be an added advantage. Willingness to travel locally and regionally to various field locations and work flexible hours as needed

Main Responsibilities

A full-time position working at designated client site, required to provide high-quality, onsite technical and troubleshooting services covering below support activities within the required SLA time frame

  • Hardware support: technical diagnosis and coordination with OEM vendors for repair of defective hardware for a variety of devices including desktops/laptops/workstations, mobile devices, tablets, meeting room equipment, printers etc
  • Software support: diagnosis and resolution of software functionality for both the operating system and standard desktop applications
  • IMACD: physical installations, moves, adds, changes, and de-installs for a wide variety of supported hardware devices including desktops/laptops/workstations, mobile devices, tablets, meeting room equipment, printers and etc. and supported software
  • Enhanced support for VIP users
  • Coordinate with infrastructure teams to resolve issues with network, servers or other infrastructure devices or services that impact the normal work of end users
  • Support hardware and software changes (e.g. hardware device change/refresh, system upgrade/migration, patch update, etc.) for end users
  • Asset management support for end user devices by following defined processes
  • Provide smart hand support for all kinds of hardware such as printers, servers, network devices, backup devices, meeting room equipment, scientific devices etc
  • Onsite support for events such as trade shows or special meetings
  • Regular checks for IT Room devices and Meeting Room equipment when required
  • Deployment services for large-scale efforts include asset auditing and discovery, project support, image integration, on-site installation, user self-installation, migration, and asset recovery governed with full project status and reporting

Skills Required

  • 1 to 2 years of deskside support experience (MNC support experience and VIP support experience preferred)
  • Experience in using ServiceNow is preferred
  • Good deskside support technical skills and basic infrastructure knowledge
  • Good communication and coordination skills
  • Fluent English in both writing and speaking
  • Be polite, patient, helpful
  • Have a good sense of service mindset
  • Have a good capacity of adaptability
  • Willing to work overtime when required
