  • Oversee all legal and contractual matters within the Company.
  • Provide legal and secretarial advice to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.
  • Act as a legal advisor to division/departments and ensures full compliance to statutory/regulatory requirements and relevant acts e.g. Companies Act 1965, Employment Act, MCCG, SSM etc.
  • Manage and monitors all contracts, agreement and transactional documents and other legal related matters.
  • Review and recommends appointment of external panel solicitors.
  • Handles litigation matter e.g. collecting evidence, liaise with panel solicitors and preparation of court/cause paper.
  • Manage and monitor Board Papers, minutes, resolutions, and other secretarial matters.
  • Liaise closely with the Company Secretary.
  • Undertake all duties, tasks and responsibility as required by the management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or equivalent.
  • Preferably with knowledge on ICSA or Governance.
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience, with a background in corporate or commercial law.
  • Being admitted and having experience as an Advocate & solicitor is an added advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of corporate law, contract law and litigation.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in contract drafting, negotiating, and reviewing.
  • Good command in FIDIC & contract management.
  • Fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and English, oral & written.
  • Possess strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiar with Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning services.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory Services

  • Offer guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including regulatory compliance, contractual obligations, and internal policies. Interpret relevant laws and provide actionable recommendations to senior management to support informed decision making and ensure legal compliance. Direct and manage the legal framework and governance of the organisation by ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies to safeguard HRD Corp’s statutory functions and operational integrity.

Legal Agreement Structuring and Validation

  • Oversee the preparation of legal documents by coordinating with relevant departments, ensuring contracts and agreements reflect business terms and comply with legal requirements, minimising organisational risks.
  • Lead the evaluation of contracts for compliance by reviewing terms and recommending revisions, ensuring the protection of the organisation’s legal interests while balancing business needs.

Contractual Oversight and Review

  • Manage the timely review and approval of legal documents by supervising the entire contract lifecycle through efficient processes for contract management, guaranteeing that all documents align with organisational policies and legal standards.
  • Review and verify the terms and conditions of contracts and agreements, and communicate necessary revisions to relevant departments to maintain document accuracy and confirm that all contractual obligations are met.

Policy & Framework

  • Lead and coordinate initiatives related to the legal policy, frameworks and related legal instruments, including stakeholder engagement with regulators and external legal experts, to ensure it remains responsive and relevant to industry and organisational needs.

Legal Risk Mitigation

  • Lead the identification and evaluation of potential legal risks by conducting detailed legal research, analysis of statutory changes, and assessment of case law trends to inform proactive strategies and compliance planning across business units.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Certification of Legal Practice (CLP) or any related fields or Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or related field is an added advantage.
  • 10-12 years of working experiences in legal firms with exposure to various fields of law i.e., Contracts Law, Companies Law, Land Law, Commercial Law & Public Law.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a managerial or advisory role would be an added advantage.
  • Proven track record in providing legal counsel within a statutory body, government linked company (GLC), regulatory agency, or corporate legal environment.
  • Strong experience in contract management, legal advisory, regulatory compliance, and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead legal teams and manage external counsel effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to manage complex legal matters and provide sound legal advice in a dynamic environment.

The job holder is responsible for:

1. Malaysia- MBSM
The Legal Manager is overall responsible to protect all tangible and intangible rights of Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia (MBSM). He/She shall provide legal and compliance/secretarial advisory to the management team and steer legal related MBSM’s agreements to protect the company’s interests. In addition, he/she is to represent the Company and defend its interests in all legal proceedings. As such, he/she shall also be required to manage the interactions with all external (i.e. Bank Negara Malaysia) and internal parties during business negotiations.

2. Additional: Supervisory and Lead Legal Onehub Asia
Legal Supervisory- Providing all legal advice and legal support for onboarding of new relevant markets to Onehub Project team Malaysia. Reviewing and advising the project team on all related matters and the SLA Blueprint and DPOB and any matters related.
Advising on setting up of the new legal entity in Malaysia and registration thereof. Setting up the legal department within the entity and introducing the contract management process and all legal processes for the successful establishment of the legal entity.

3. Additional: Leading and Supporting the Legal function in MBFS HK
Providing support to MBFS Hong Kong- thru Service Level Agreement since January 2022, providing legal consultation to the entity from Malaysia for all related legal matters.

Scope of Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Strategy
-Lead, oversee and manage all legal and regulatory compliance matters and will be the principal legal advisor expert.
-Lead in safeguarding the Company’s legal interests, ensuring regulatory compliance, while mitigating legal risks and protecting the company's interests.
-Influencing diverse stakeholders and making legal decisions for Local management team in all its legal and regulatory affairs.
-Building and maintaining strong working relationships within the AAP region and HQ and understand business needs and strategic plans to provide proactive and valued advice for MY/SG cluster/MBFS HK and Onehub Asia.
-Develop legal department strategy for MY/SG Cluster/HK and Onehub and align with the regional business objectives and corporate strategies.
-Analyze complex legal issues to identify strategic and actionable solutions and communicates them effectively, mindful of the level of information required by the recipient(s).

2. Legal Consultant
-Defining, Leading and Advising the business/ Management/ Department Heads on broad range legal and regulatory matters.
-Influencing and leading discussions with management on different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations.
-Defining legal framework in all legal activities.
-Lead and oversees the delivery of training to management and personnel on legal issues affecting individual departmental activities and transactions.
-To provide legal advices and support in on Malaysia’s legal framework in areas such as Hire Purchase Law, Stamp Duties Act, Financial Act, Companies Act, Contract Act and Bankruptcy Act, Personal Data Law & Anti-Trust laws.
-Managing the legal risks and provide legal advice in respect of all corporate operational legal matters and ensure legal compliance.
-To conduct and keep abreast of any new laws and regulations applicable to the Company, initiate necessary change and impact to business operations.
-Reviews, negotiates and drafting all types of arrangements, contacts, legal documents and etc.
-Protection of tangible & in-tangible rights of the Company and sustained success in defending legal suits at optimum legal costs (in court).

3. Managing the interactions with external parties such as customers/regulators and external lawyers
-Additionally takes responsibility of ensuring that all allegations of legal misconduct are reported in a timely manner to the executive team to maintain integrity within the business.
- Instructs and assists external legal partners where necessary identifying potential legal risks and assessing the issues impacting legal risk, which ensures that all the business’s risk management approaches are viable.
- Leading communication with regulators, this means responding clearly and on time to regulatory enquiries as well as keeping on top of regulatory developments and helping teams to implement regulatory change.

4. Managing and Supervising Team of 2 Employees
-Lead and manage junior lawyers in drafting sensitive and high-value legal documentation necessary for business operations.
Mentor legal department personnel, encouraging their professional growth, and grooming them.

5. Company Secretarial Advisory
-Leading the overseeing the company secretarial function and conduct risk assessments for the Company, aggregate and analyze issues and trends, and provide feedback to the legal entity for all matters related to this

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) with at least 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in professional firms and in-house experience are viewed as an advantage.
- Good working knowledge in corporate and commercial contract.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong persuasive abilities.
- Strong and good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Accountability and high professional integrity and mature.
- Meticulous attention to fine detail and able to work to tight deadlines.
- Enthusiastic team-player, willing to learn, quality-conscious with an eye for detail, practical and discreet in dealing with confidential information.

Additional: Supervisory and Lead Legal Onehub Asia Legal Supervisory- Providing all legal advice and legal support for onboarding of new relevant markets to Onehub Project team Malaysia. Reviewing and advising the project team on all related matters and the SLA Blueprint and DPOB and any matters related. Advising on setting up of the new legal entity in Malaysia and registration thereof. Setting up the legal department within the entity and introducing the contract management process and all legal processes for the successful establishment of the legal entity. 3. Additional: Leading and Supporting the Legal function in MBFS HK Providing support to MBFS Hong Kong- thru Service Level Agreement since January 2022, providing legal consultation to the entity from Malaysia for all related legal matters. Scope of Responsibilities: 1. Leadership and Strategy -Lead, oversee and manage all legal and regulatory compliance matters and will be the principal legal advisor expert. -Lead in safeguarding the Company’s legal interests, ensuring regulatory compliance, while mitigating legal risks and protecting the company's interests. -Influencing diverse stakeholders and making legal decisions for Local management team in all its legal and regulatory affairs. -Building and maintaining strong working relationships within the AAP region and HQ and understand business needs and strategic plans to provide proactive and valued advice for MY/SG cluster/MBFS HK and Onehub Asia. -Develop legal department strategy for MY/SG Cluster/HK and Onehub and align with the regional business objectives and corporate strategies. -Analyze complex legal issues to identify strategic and actionable solutions and communicates them effectively, mindful of the level of information required by the recipient(s). 2. Legal Consultant -Defining, Leading and Advising the business/ Management/ Department Heads on broad range legal and regulatory matters. -Influencing and leading discussions with management on different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations. -Defining legal framework in all legal activities. -Lead and oversees the delivery of training to management and personnel on legal issues affecting individual departmental activities and transactions. -To provide legal advices and support in on Malaysia’s legal framework in areas such as Hire Purchase Law, Stamp Duties Act, Financial Act, Companies Act, Contract Act and Bankruptcy Act, Personal Data Law & Anti-Trust laws. -Managing the legal risks and provide legal advice in respect of all corporate operational legal matters and ensure legal compliance. -To conduct and keep abreast of any new laws and regulations applicable to the Company, initiate necessary change and impact to business operations. -Reviews, negotiates and drafting all types of arrangements, contacts, legal documents and etc. -Protection of tangible & in-tangible rights of the Company and sustained success in defending legal suits at optimum legal costs (in court). 3. Managing the interactions with external parties such as customers/regulators and external lawyers -Additionally takes responsibility of ensuring that all allegations of legal misconduct are reported in a timely manner to the executive team to maintain integrity within the business. - Instructs and assists external legal partners where necessary identifying potential legal risks and assessing the issues impacting legal risk, which ensures that all the business’s risk management approaches are viable. - Leading communication with regulators, this means responding clearly and on time to regulatory enquiries as well as keeping on top of regulatory developments and helping teams to implement regulatory change. 4. Managing and Supervising Team of 2 Employees -Lead and manage junior lawyers in drafting sensitive and high-value legal documentation necessary for business operations. Mentor legal department personnel, encouraging their professional growth, and grooming them. 5. Company Secretarial Advisory -Leading the overseeing the company secretarial function and conduct risk assessments for the Company, aggregate and analyze issues and trends, and provide feedback to the legal entity for all matters related to this Qualifications Education & Work Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) with at least 8 years of relevant experience. Experience in professional firms and in-house experience are viewed as an advantage. - Good working knowledge in corporate and commercial contract. - Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong persuasive abilities. - Strong and good written and oral communication skills in English. - Accountability and high professional integrity and mature. - Meticulous attention to fine detail and able to work to tight deadlines. - Enthusiastic team-player, willing to learn, quality-conscious with an eye for detail, practical and discreet in dealing with confidential information. What you'll be doing:

As Legal Manager/Market Lawyer (Contractor- 6 months), you’ll be a trusted advisor to Avon Malaysia, supporting the business across a wide range of legal matters. You’ll collaborate with teams from Sales to Marketing and Operations, helping ensure our contracts, transactions, and communications are legally sound and compliant with Malaysian regulations. You’ll also represent Avon in dealings with government authorities, contributing to a culture of integrity and responsible growth.

Key responsibilities:

You’ll handle contract drafting and review, manage legal documentation, and support licensing and regulatory compliance. You’ll advise internal teams on legal risks, product claims, and advertising standards, while staying current with Malaysian laws and industry developments. You’ll also assist in resolving disputes, managing external legal partners, and maintaining organized legal records.
