RoleReporting to the Senior Archives Assistant, the appointee will support the daily operations of the University Archives within the Archives and Special Collections (ASC).
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the daily operation of the University Archives;
- Support the Archivists and Senior Archives Assistant in managing the off-site Records Centre;
- Assist in cross-departmental records transfer, processing, and shelf management of Archives and off-site Records Centre following international standards (ICA, ISO, BSI);
- Act as front of house to help with handling general enquiries, research bookings, retrieval and return of materials, and guiding researchers in their use of materials;
- Supervise the environmental control, handling and security of our Archives and Records Centre, report and react swiftly to any concerns of the space;
- Liaise with Library Administration and Estates Office regarding facilities management of on-site and off-site repositories;
- Assist in processing, cataloguing, digitization and basic maintenance of our finding aids including ArchivesSpace, Digital University Archives and departmental homepage;
- Assist in collecting digital contents produced by and relating to the University of Hong Kong using Archive-It;
- Assist in generating, collecting, and compiling statistics;
- Assist in processing and cataloging archival materials, including the use of ArchivesSpace; and
- Assist in preparation for teaching and outreach activities, including seminars, lectures and exhibitions.
- A Bachelor Degree in History, preferably in Archives and Records Management, or a related field;
- Some relevant work experience, preferably in an archival setting or similar roles;
- Basic knowledge and concept of records;
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin);
- Strong computer software literacy (such as MS Office);
- Ability to work independently and handle multitasking;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; and
- Capability to manage an archival box up to 15kg.
