We are seeking a highly capable Lead Engineer to serve as the central technical authority for our renewable energy projects in Malaysia, with a primary focus on solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS), and secondary coverage of wind projects. Based in Kuala Lumpur, this role will oversee all engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, high-voltage systems, site layouts, and energy simulations.


The Lead Engineer will act as the focal point for all technical discussions, coordinating closely with the regional engineering team (currently based in Taiwan and Thailand) and supporting the local partner and internal stakeholders. This role is hands-on and strategic, requiring both technical depth and the ability to manage stakeholder interfaces, attend site visits, and participate in utility and permitting discussions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete engineering of all types of power plants (including but not limited to Solar, Onshore Wind, Offshore Wind, and Storage)

  • Preparation of technical drawings and as-built documentation

  • Optimization and maintenance of project performance from the perspective of production vs. cost, while maintaining project schedules and prioritizing safety


Standards & Processes

  • Lead for internal standards and processes (technical owner), including:

  • Definition of Responsibilities (DoR)

  • Document Lists

  • Folder structure maintenance

  • Anaplan PIC and Master Data management


Procurement & Contracting

  • Preparation of Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents, including Bill of Materials (BoM), Scope of Work (SoW), and benchmarking

  • Provide technical support during contract negotiations

  • Supplier analysis, selection, and communication


Project Interface & Support

  • Serve as the point of contact for internal and external engineering teams

  • Communication with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Conduct site visits and technical due diligence

  • Technical support to construction teams (e.g., commissioning, site inspection, lessons learned)

  • Technical support for Operations & Maintenance (O&M), including surveys and performance prognosis

  • Technical support for Health & Safety (H&S), including incident reporting and regular coordination meetings

  • Produce Permit documentation related to electrical and civil applications (e.g., Forest Permit, METI Notification, SIS applications)


Development & Origination

  • Support project origination activities, including GIS analysis and new site identification

  • Contribute to IRR improvement through portfolio-wide research and implementation


Asset & Performance Management

  • Perform technical asset management activities, including plant performance reporting and business interruption analysis

  • Conduct measurement activities in the wind portfolio


Cross-Functional & Regional Support

  • Provide technical support to Finance and Investment teams (e.g., simulation improvements, technical due diligence)

  • Support regional Group Tech Services projects via Japan team resources, across solar, wind, and battery storage technologies


Pre-requisites

  • Degree in Engineering or a related field

  • At least 5 years of experience (Malaysia) in renewable energy engineering

  • Deep understanding of solar PV and BESS systems, Quality Management

  • Exposure to Civil, EPC, or High-voltage design

  • Regional project exposure (solar, battery, wind)

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
