We are seeking to appoint a teaching-focused Teaching Fellow/Associate Teaching Fellow to join the School of Pre-University and Continuing Education (SPACE) on a contract basis.
The role involves delivering Foundation and Diploma teaching, supervision, and short courses.
Your new role
- Deliver learning activities face-to-face, online, or in a hybrid format, fostering student engagement.
- Assess student work and provide constructive feedback.
- Engage and collaborate with stakeholders, contributing to community engagement and partnerships within Curtin and local communities.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, IT, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Teaching experience with Diploma and Foundation students, familiar with online teaching tools.
- Ability to develop teaching resources and assessments suitable for diploma and pre-university levels.
- Strong teaching skills with a reflective approach.
- Emerging scholarship record in teaching.
- Understanding of pedagogical and contemporary educational practices.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- High interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, committed to a collegial environment.
- Experience in academic service and leadership within the department or faculty.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal development through one-on-one counselling, academic pathway planning, and university application guidance. In addition, the Guidance Teacher will support students with social-emotional concerns and contribute to school-wide well-being initiatives. This role also includes teaching one class per day, with flexibility in subject area—ideally in Social Studies, Business Studies, English, or Mathematics. Key Responsibilities: Provide academic counselling to Grade 12/Pre-University students
Guide students in course selection and academic planning aligned with their post-secondary goals
Support students throughout the university application process, including essay writing, documentation, and interview preparation
Offer counselling and support on social-emotional matters, including stress, motivation, and personal well-being
Contribute to the planning and delivery of school-wide well-being and mental health initiatives
Teach one class per day, in a subject area aligned with the teacher’s expertise and school needs
Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents/guardians, and staff
Collaborate with faculty and administrative teams on student support strategies and programming
Qualifications and Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Education and appropriate undergraduate degree(s) in one or more teachable subjects
Knowledge of the Canadian (Ontario) curriculum is an asset
Secondary School Guidance Counsellor certification or equivalent training is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of teaching and/or counselling experience at the secondary/high school level
A Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) is preferred
Experience with university admissions processes (Canadian, UK, US, and/or international pathways)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English (written and spoken)
Proficiency in using technology to support counselling and teaching
Demonstrated ability to foster a supportive and respectful school environment

Work closely with the School’s Education Management Office (EMO) for efficient education-related statistics gathering and student progress tracking, especially during the off-semester periods

Contribute to academic service responsibilities, including contributing to outcomes of the discipline and/or school meetings and/or internal committees
