It is a senior role requiring leadership of a team and active client engagement. Responsibilities
Lead project implementation as a technical advisor/leader for climate consultancy projects across various sectors, covering low carbon transition, GHG emissions reduction actions and plans, climate and net zero strategies, Science-Based Targets, climate-related financial risk and opportunity assessments, and adaptation strategies. Ensure quality and timely delivery within budget while guiding project teams. Support business development by assisting senior sellers and account directors in identifying opportunities, developing and pitching proposals including methodological approaches, tasks, budgets and team structures. Provide technical guidance and build capacity within the ERM climate advisory team in Southeast Asia; share knowledge, coordinate with ERM’s global Climate Technical Community to apply best practices and tools in the region. Support strategy, marketing and thought leadership by helping develop regional climate advisory strategy, marketing plans and materials; participate in external workshops, webinars, learnings sessions and development of thought leadership materials. Lead and develop a team of 6-8 consultants in Malaysia, including setting goals, coaching, mentoring and hiring as needed. Requirements
At least 7 years of experience in climate change mitigation and GHG accounting and/or climate risk assessment and adaptation. Strong analytical skills to analyze GHG/climate data and derive practical recommendations. Good understanding of private sector climate needs and ability to advise executives and board-level representatives on climate issues, risks, opportunities, strategies, targets and action plans. Strong written and verbal communication and data presentation skills; ability to simplify complex technical information. Ability to work both independently and in a team with minimal supervision; capacity to lead projects and project teams, multi-task and meet deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with data management systems and tools is a plus. Experience in Asia or regional context is a plus; open to candidates from other regions willing to relocate to Southeast Asia. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Economics, Sustainability, Finance or related field. Fluency in English; knowledge of Asian languages is a plus. Principal Consultant, Climate Change
role within
ERM’s regional Southeast Asia Team
to lead a portfolio of projects for ERM’s key corporate clients in Malaysia, Southeast Asia and beyond.
This is a senior role, where the candidate will need to be a team leader for a team of 6-8 consultants in Malaysia, thought leader in promoting climate change topic internally, within ERM team, and amongst various stakeholders in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific region (corporates’ executives, project developers, government agencies etc.) via participation in seminars, conferences and clients events as well as connecting with other lead climate experts across ERM.
The candidate will work with ERM’s business development teams and leaders across Asia Pacific to maintain existing client relationships as well as grow new client portfolios in Southeast Asia and more broadly resulting in the growth of ERM’s opportunity pipeline. This will require an individual with good communication skills, client/market understanding and proposal development skills.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Leading projects’ implementation:
Act as a technical advisor/leader for climate consultancy projects for corporate clients across a variety of economic sectors, focusing on such topics as low carbon economy transition, GHG emissions reduction actions and plans, climate and net zero strategies, Science-Based Targets, climate-related financial risks and opportunities assessment, adaptation strategies, etc. Provide technical guidance to project teams, conduct technical reviews, ensure quality and timely delivery of project outputs within the budget.
Business development:
assist senior sellers and account directors/managers in identifying and pursuing potential business opportunities with existing and new clients. Help develop and pitch proposals for clients, including methodological approach and description of tasks, budgets and team structures.
Technical guidance and capacity building:
guide and build capacities of ERM climate advisory team in Southeast Asia coaching, training, sharing knowledge and market updates within the team and coordinating with ERM global Climate Technical Community to understand best practices, approaches, methodologies and tools to apply them in the Southeast Asian region.
Strategy, marketing and thought leadership:
support Regional Corporate Sustainability and Climate Change Lead for Southeast Asia in developing regional strategy for climate advisory services, marketing plans and materials; participate in marketing and communication activities around climate advisory, including preparing and co-leading external workshops, webinars, learning sessions, developing thought leadership materials, communication pieces, and reports for a wide audience.
Team leadership:
lead a team of 6-8 consultants in Malaysia, including defining their goals, priorities, coaching, mentoring, hiring new team members.
Requirements
At least 7 years of experience in climate change mitigation and GHG accounting and/or climate risk assessment and adaptation.
Very strong analytical skills and ability to analyze GHG/climate data and draw conclusions and practical recommendations as a result of the analysis.
Good understanding of private sector’s climate needs and priorities and ability to advise to the executive- and board- level representatives on climate-related issues, risks, opportunities, strategies, targets and action plans.
Strong written, verbal communication and data presentation skills. Ability to present complex and technical information in an easy-to-understand manner.
Ability to work both in a team and independently, with minimal supervision.
Capacity and willingness to lead consultancy projects and project teams; ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and meet deadlines.
Good command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and online communication tools. Experience with data management systems and tools is a plus.
Work experience in Asia and understanding regional context is a plus, but we are open for candidates with experience in other regions willing to reallocate to Southeast Asia.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Climate Change, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Economics, Sustainability, Finance or related field.
Fluency in English. Knowledge of Asian languages will be considered a plus.
