Job Description

- To oversee SMBCMY’s overall sustainability and social value creation strategies and initiatives.

- To support the Board of Directors on sustainability and social value creation-related matters.

- To chair SMBCMY’s Sustainability Committee.

- To lead sustainability and social value creation functions to implement business strategies and other business agendas.

- To address actual or potential environment related breaches of regulatory requirements or internal policies in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring timely reporting to respective departments, board committees, and regulators.

- To design and deliver an integrated communications plan and robust training program for sustainability and social value creation strategy, purpose and performance to all stakeholders.

- To communicate with local authorities/regulators regarding sustainability and social value creation.

- To liaise closely with SMBC Head Office (Japan) and Regional Office (Singapore) to ensure the implementation of sustainability and social value creation related business strategies, internal rules and policies in SMBCMY.

- To ensure timely reporting of sustainability and social value creation related matters concerning operations, financial management, regulatory requirements, risk, and compliance incidents to SMBC Head Office and Regional Office.

- To lead organizing or to represent SMBCMY as Chief Sustainability Officer in various ESG related events to create better visibility in the banking industry.

Job Requirements

- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Finance, Engineering or a related field.
- Preferably with minimum 10 years of extensive experience with focus in sustainability or corporate social responsibility or environmental management. At least 5 years in a senior management position.
- Strong understanding in of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and standards, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GRI (Global Reporting Initiative), and others.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to environmental protection and corporate social responsibility.
- Strategic and financial frameworks to make a strong business case for sustainability initiatives.
- Awareness of current sustainability trends and challenges within various industries and best practices.
- Proven track record of leading successful sustainability programs and initiatives within and across departments to integrate sustainability into core business operations.
- Leadership skills to influence and drive organizational change towards greener and more responsible business practices.
- Ability to communicate sustainability goals and achievements effectively to all stakeholders.
- Creative thinking, critical thinking, strategic planning and implementation.
- Strong leader with track record of coaching and developing talent.
- Enthusiastic on representing for the Bank as Chief Sustainability Officer in external/internal ESG related events.

About the role

  • Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems of working.

  • Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed and use the results to drive further improvement.

About you

  • Master’s degree in science or engineering or environmental or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities: to add by the location.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification a plus.
  • Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working a plus.
  • Good working English required.
  • Excellence communication and cross function collaboration.
  • Fast pace, self-starter and highly motivated.
  • Exposure of minimum 3 to 5 years working experience in environmental field/project. Especially on WastewaterTreatment Plant (IETS), Bag Filtrations system, Cyclone (advantage), STP (Advantage)
  • Experience dealing with local authorities such are Department of Environment (DOE)
  • Experience in ISO 14001 Environment Management System – manage & organize the progress including liaising with CB(Certification Body)
  • Understand the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in a factory-based role: Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations,
  • Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Engineering background.

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Business, Sustainability, or related field. 2–5 years of sales experience, preferably in sustainability, ESG, or consultancy services. General Manager - Business Assurance (BA)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Lead the local environmental sustainability business and understands the clients' requirements in order to interprets it in a way that the clients actually mean and manage the overall business revenue as the project progress within the given timeframe.
  • Liaising with Global Product/Business Manager-Environment, Social and Governance as appropriate on any information on environmental sustainability services and technical matter as appropriate.
  • Support the Sales and Business Development Team in growing the market of environmental sustainability services in Malaysia, including establish the business strategy and planning to lead the services in achieving greater sales, market share and profit targets.
  • Ensure that all services are delivered as per SGS methodology and approach with the main aim to ensure business organization is able to increase their productivity level, profit margins, thereby helping in broadening its horizons.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES

  • Lead and control the day-to-day operations of the environmental sustainability services to ensure the effective and efficiency of the business, including translate business strategy into pragmatic action plans and execute.
  • Involved in performing the free-diagnostics work, completing the consultancy proposal that will ultimately accomplish the environmental sustainability targets as required by the client.
  • Active engagement with the stakeholders to understand issues and manage the change process which may include active collaboration with the cross-functional teams.
  • Manage resources to deliver effective solutions across the client’s organization needs aligned with the environmental sustainability targets proposal.
  • Support business development activities by identifying targeted area of business opportunity, defining and planning lean improvement or productivity related seminar and marketing activities.
  • Provide reliable and necessary inputs on yearly budget for environmental sustainability business. This includes market trend, SWOT, competitors’ market share and new business opportunities.
  • Carry out function which is deemed necessary (as directed and guided by the division General Manager/Business Manager) to support the growth of environmental sustainability business of SGS Knowledge division.
  • Adhere and operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity and local HR policies.
  • Adherence to SGS Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policy by uphold a good safety behavior and exercising necessary standard and process when carry out your responsibilities at all times to ensure compliance to the HSE requirements.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by your reporting manager and/or Senior Management.

Qualifications

PROFILE

  • Master Degree or Degree in Environment related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years related working experience in the environmental sustainability area, preferable in Project Management and audit related experience.
  • Proven track records of successful driving the business related to environmental sustainability targets.
  • Be qualified & registered Lead Auditor in ISO 14001 Environment Management System.
  • Candidate with registered Lead Auditor in OHSAS 18001 and/or ISO 45001 will be added advantage.
  • Applicants must based in Shah Alam and willing to travel nationwide occasionally.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High level interpersonal skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels within a client’s organisation and SGS both local and global level.
  • Customer focused orientated person with good business acumen.
  • Proven negotiation skills to be able to negotiate productivity issues when dealing with the client organisation's management in relation to consultancy project.
  • Excellent and effective presentation and written communication skills.
