Job Description

Teachers have the overall responsibility to prepare students for, most importantly, the real world and more immediately, the Cambridge IGCSE examination.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

  • Deliver content and facilitate coursework, discussions, and activities according to ACE EdVenture’s pedagogy and standards
  • Contact students’ parents regularly to update them on their children’s progress in the real world, academic and behavioural aspects whether positive or negative, especially positive
  • Attend mandatory team meetings such as Termly Tactics to stay updated on the school’s growth and evolution and convey relevant updates to students
  • Work with Academic teams to update and upgrade curricula based on purpose and principles in the ACE DNA
  • Set internal exam papers and deliver them in a timely manner for sufficient time to vet and print
  • Prepare students’ report cards in a timely manner for sufficient time to vet and print
  • Be ready to aid Heads in the preparation of materials needed in the classroom or for student progress and wellbeing
  • Document student work/progress for tracking purposes
  • Encourage and instil self-discipline in students
  • Speak English at all times and ensure students do the same except during non-English language classes
  • Handle emergencies and crises in the classroom
  • Communicate information to leaders that could jeopardise a student’s/student safety or wellbeing with the utmost appropriation
  • Collaborate with other teachers to address classroom or student-specific issues
  • Adhere to company policies that are put in place to protect and serve all stakeholders within ACE EdVenture
  • Replace other teachers’ classes when called on
  • Enforce, document and execute mentoring sessions and growth measures for mentees
  • Ensure replication of and improvements in ACE Pedagogy by ensuring that mentees obtain the ACE standard of skills, understanding and know how.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Heads, Training, and HR to track progress and grow mentees.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3–4 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international school setting.
  • Familiarity with or experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE PE curriculum.

Purpose of Role

As a Mandarin Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality Mandarin instruction across First Language, Second Language, and Foreign Language pathways, aligned with the IGCSE curriculum. You will support students with varying levels of language proficiency, promote intercultural understanding, and contribute to the broader language learning experience within the school.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated Mandarin lessons suitable for native speakers, bilingual students, and beginners.
  • Ensure lesson planning, delivery, and assessment align with IGCSE Mandarin standards and the school's curriculum framework.
  • Incorporate a range of teaching strategies, including the effective use of technology and authentic materials, to support student learning.

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Design and implement schemes of work that reflect best practices in language acquisition and support successful outcomes in IGCSE Mandarin (First Language, Second Language, and Foreign Language).
  • Monitor and assess student progress using appropriate formative and summative tools.
  • Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including IGCSE examinations.

Student Support

  • Create a supportive learning environment that encourages risk-taking, curiosity, and cultural appreciation.
  • Provide individualized support and feedback to students of all language levels.
  • Encourage student participation in co-curricular and enrichment activities related to Mandarin language and Chinese culture.

Collaboration and Contribution

  • Work closely with colleagues within the Modern Foreign Languages Department and across the school to promote language learning and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Participate actively in departmental planning, school events, parent-teacher conferences, and open days.
  • Contribute to the development of the Mandarin curriculum and share best practices with the wider team.
