About ConocoPhillips Malaysia

ConocoPhillips has a significant presence in Malaysia as part of its Asia Pacific operations since 2000. COP partners with PETRONAS and international oil companies in five production sharing contracts in Sabah. Four of these PSCs are in waters off the eastern Malaysian state of Sabah: Block G, Block J, the Kebabangan Cluster (KBBC) and the Ubah Cluster, which was acquired in 2024. In January 2025, COP became the operator of the Kebabangan Cluster, marking a significant milestone as COP’s first operated producing asset in Malaysia. KBB reached first production in 2014. COP is currently planning a four (4) development well program at KBB to start in early 2027 and has plans for future platform drilling and subsea tiebacks.

Basic Purpose/Accountabilities:

The Drilling Superintendent is accountable for planning and executing all aspects of the drilling program, the health and safety of all operational personnel, and protection of the environment. The Drilling Superintendent will initially provide up-front engineering planning, contracts, and logistics support and long-term operational oversight to help ensure that the ConocoPhillips Malaysia operated wells are drilled and completed in a safe, cost effective, timely and environmentally responsible manner, adhering to all company core values and policies as well as regulatory requirements.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the safe rig operations. Direct, guide, and motivate immediate subordinates and contractors in conducting ongoing operations ensuring the well plans are executed safely, on time and according to good oilfield practices.
  • Direct day-to-day responsibility for operational decisions that are within the scope of the approved drilling and completion programs. Review proposed technical details and procedures with the Drilling Manager, and Drilling Supervisors during operations. Ensure MOC procedures are adhered to deviations.
  • Work closely with the engineers in preparation of detailed programs, including cost estimates and coordination of cost controls.
  • Determine critical equipment requirements and ensure equipment installations meet COP standards and specifications for well control.
  • Responsible for safety and environmental rig audits.
  • Support the preparation and technical input for all submittals to regulatory agencies and participate in meetings/discussions as required.
  • Monitor daily drilling operations and recommend necessary changes to drilling programs and/or operational practices for enhancing safety and performance.
  • Provide recommendations to management for the human resource requirements to ensure that the drilling team will be capable of meeting the agreed schedule requirements. Lead the selection of rig supervisors and schedule staffing rotations. Mentoring developing engineers and staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring well designs adhere to the ConocoPhillips Well Delivery Process.
  • Ensure daily drilling reports are kept up-to-date, accurate (cost accounting included) and reviewed by onsite drilling supervisors.
  • Work with logistics personnel (rig and shore based) to ensure the rig service and supply plan (RSSP) is up to date, all manifests are accurate, and that delivered equipment/material/tools are correct.
  • Support pre and post contract management for rig and service contractors, including non-compliance reporting and close-out. Ensure acceptable contractual performance and implement corrective actions as required for non-performing contractors.
  • Capture lessons learned, coordinate action reviews, and final well report section summary” to assess overall performance of services contractors and evaluate drilling procedures being implemented.
  • Interface with COP corporate, partners, and PETRONAS as required.
  • Network with other parts of COP to capture experiences that can benefit the current project and enable a learning organization.

HSE Roles:

  • Comply with HSE policies, Life Saving Rules, procedures, goals, and programs within the MBU HSE Management System.
  • Actively engage in and contribute to HSE communication and consultation processes.
  • Actively participate in HSE initiatives and programs that include but not limited to Safety Observations and HSE Trainings.
  • Support company sustainability development (SD) initiatives and other environmental policies and practices.
  • Develop follow-up plans for accidents, incidents, and significant near misses occurred at operational worksites. Ensure incident investigations are completed and the root causes are identified and addressed.
  • Assist in preparing and executing HSE and emergency response plans including, but not limited to ERPs, Oil Spill contingency plans, blowout contingency plans, bridging documents, Medivac plans and procedures.

Personal Skills :

  • Ability to identify areas of critical risks and focus efforts and resources appropriately to anticipate and systematically manage risks.
  • Direct experience and proficiency with HSE Management Systems and HSE requisites such as Risk Assessments, Audits and Inspections, and Procedures.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks while responding to critical needs with eminent deadlines.
  • Strong technical skills in well engineering and offshore operations.
  • Possesses strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective in a multi-cultural, multi-discipline team environment.
  • Proven mentoring skills and the ability to train and motivate less experienced staff.
  • Medically fit and meets PETRONAS required offshore medical/safety passport requirements.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred but will consider equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Highly regarded technical professional with minimum 15 years’ experience in Well Engineering, with a minimum of 8 years in an operation supervisory role
  • Experience working on/with offshore semi-TAD, jack-up, drillship rigs
  • Experience with rig moves, soil borings, and anchor handling.
  • A proven safety leader with a track record in leading HSE performance in drilling operations
  • Experienced in offshore SIMOPS
  • Valid IWCF and T-Bosiet / HUET certifications. Must be medically fit to travel to the rig site as required.

Site Supervision & Execution

Based in the Cayman Islands, you will join our team for the construction of a luxury hotel complex with the following responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to Site Superintendent for works Coordination and day to day activities
  • 80% site based / 20% office based
  • Liaising with MEPF Manager for technical and quality matters
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of MEP subcontractors and site workers.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Report and resolve any discrepancies, defects, or non-conformances on site.
  • Organize, attend and follow up BCU Inspections in line with project schedule

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Enforce safety regulations and procedures in accordance with company and legal standards.
  • Participate in safety audits and toolbox talks to promote a safe working environment.

Coordination & Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact for MEPF subcontractors on-site in coordination with Site Superintendent.
  • Coordinate MEP activities with other trades to avoid conflicts and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and site conditions to the MEP Manager or Construction Manager.
  • Coordinate logistics and subcontractors’ storage areas

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain site records including daily logs, inspection reports, and work progress reports.
  • Assist in preparing as-built drawings and documentation required for handover and commissioning.

Collateral Functions

  • Assist site team with technical matters connected to temporary power, water and other facilities
  • Assist and coordinate with site team with regards to Utilities and Civild Works scope
  • Elevators, Kitchen, Pool equipment scope to be assessed

Could this be you ?

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience: 10+ years in site supervision of MEP works, with at least years in hotel or high-end commercial construction projects.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of MEP systems: HVAC, plumbing, fire safety, and electrical. UL, NEC, NFPA, IBC and American codes
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, technical submittals and specifications.
  • Tools: Proficiency in MS Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD; familiarity with project management tools is an advantage.
  • Certifications: OSHA / Safety Certification preferred.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent leadership and team coordination skills.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities under pressure.
    • Attention to detail and results-oriented mindset.

  • 5-10 years of experience in the oil industry around Malaysia.

  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for the creation of tender process specifications, the selection of drilling service providers and materials suppliers.
  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for specific recommendations for specific equipment and materials to be ordered to contractors.
  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for developing WP&B and AFE documents.
  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for carrying out data analyses to enhance learning effect in future operations and develop EoWR (End of Well Report) post drilling operations.
  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for generating operational instructions, closely monitoring daily drilling operations and initiating the processes of MOC whenever necessary.
  • Provide advanced drilling engineering expertise for interfacing with logistics staffs to stay abreast of daily activities and provide insight, advice and suggestions to them for day to day safe and efficient arrangement.
  • Act Sr. Drilling Engineer during his leave.
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in oil industry around Malaysia region.

Manage engineering team members in preparation of Basis of Well Design, Drilling Program, Section Guideline, Logistics Management Plan and other relating documents. Manage the Operations Dept. team in the well-site supervision of all drilling and well construction activities: (i) adherence to well programs and instructions. (ii) adherence to safety and environment laws & regulation. (iii) management of service company contractor. Manage the Operations Dept. team in drilling support operations: (ii) crew movement. (iii) supply chain management. (iv) drilling programs/AFE approval from the government. Manage drilling operations proper coordination through: (i) conducting coordination morning calls – offshore teams and onshore operation team in the office to report the progress. (ii) providing input into well programs. Assists developing and monitoring the Health, Safety and Environment plan under liaise with Company’s HSE team, rig contractor and key service providers. More than 15 years’ experience in oil industry & drilling activities. Drilling Engineer Provide advanced expertise similar to the Senior Drilling Engineer, including preparing operating procedures, Well Design Basis, tender specifications, and data analysis. Develop End of Well Reports (EoWR) and monitor daily operations, acting as Sr. Drilling Engineer during leave. 5-10 years of experience in the oil industry around Malaysia.
