We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead a team of 10 skilled data engineers. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with business and technology stakeholders across multiple regions in APAC, translating business needs into a clear and prioritized delivery backlog. You will be accountable for driving data engineering best practices, ensuring timely delivery, and fostering a high-performance culture within the team. Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead a team of 10 skilled data engineers. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with business and technology stakeholders across multiple regions in APAC, translating business needs into a clear and prioritized delivery backlog. You will be accountable for driving data engineering best practices, ensuring timely delivery, and fostering a high-performance culture within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 10 data engineers, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to engineering best practices. Partner with stakeholders from multiple APAC regions to understand business priorities, gather requirements, and translate them into a well-defined product backlog. Prioritize and manage the backlog to align with strategic business objectives and technical feasibility. Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, high-performance data pipelines and data models. Ensure data quality, security, and governance standards are met across all projects. Facilitate effective communication between the data engineering team and cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and product managers. Monitor delivery timelines, proactively identify risks, and implement mitigation plans. Drive continuous improvement in processes, tools, and team capabilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

15+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a people management role. Proven track record in managing distributed teams and delivering complex data engineering projects. Strong experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) and modern data engineering tools. Solid understanding of data modeling (dimensional and relational), ETL/ELT design, and data warehouse architectures. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging teams across multiple geographies. Ability to prioritize work, manage competing demands, and deliver results under tight timelines. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Databricks, and ADLS Gen2. Knowledge of data governance tools and frameworks. Exposure to APAC market dynamics and cross-cultural collaboration.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will help build and connect sustainable cloud-native systems to thrive in the cloud ecosystem. Services include: Strategy & Architecture; Assets & Industry Solutions; Engineering & Integration

• Based on selection criteria set up driver tables for key migration objects to track data through migration process
• Based on mapping rules, develop data migration transform jobs using SQL with adequate tracing
• Establish exception handling through transform process
• Set up store procedures in Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL database to automate the migration pipeline
• Setup and manage code versioning using CodeCommit in AWS
• Follow best practice coding principles ensuring it is well structured and comments are included in code so it can be understood and diagnosed by another developer
• Produce documentation outlining pipeline and key code elements to enable handover of code
• Use AWS Data Migration Service to load data into target structure
• Perform and monitor ETL activities for test loads in Non-Production environments
• Receive feedback from peer review of code

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing data infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring data integrity, and enabling analytics and machine learning initiatives. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to architect and implement data solutions that drive business insights and operational efficiency. Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized environments is essential for managing workloads and scaling data solutions effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines using modern data engineering tools and frameworks.
• Develop ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and store structured and unstructured data from various sources.
• Implement and manage data orchestration frameworks to automate, schedule, and monitor data workflows efficiently.
• Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing performance for large-scale datasets.
• Design and implement data warehouses and data lakes to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning workloads.
• Manage and maintain on-premises and cloud data infrastructure, including storage, networking, and compute resources.
• Deploy and manage containerized data workloads using Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and provide data-driven solutions.
• Develop and implement dashboards to visualise data.
• Ensure data quality, security, and governance best practices are followed.
• Implement and maintain data lineage tracking to ensure traceability and transparency of data transformations.
• Implement monitoring and alerting systems for data pipelines to ensure reliability and uptime.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, automation, and on-premises infrastructure management.
• Lead initiatives and mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or software development with a focus on data solutions.
• Strong experience in on-premises data infrastructure, including storage, networking, and compute resources.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and workload management.
• Strong experience with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, or similar.
• Experience designing and implementing relational database, object storage, data warehouses and data lakes (e.g. MariaDB, MinIO, AWS S3, ClickHouse, etc.).
• Familiarity with data orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or similar.
• Experience in data modelling, warehousing, and analytics solutions.
• Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Grafana, Apache Superset, or similar for presenting insights effectively.
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
• Knowledge and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is beneficial.
• Experience with real-time data streaming technologies such as Kafka or Apache Flink is beneficial.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

The day-to-day activities (Duties and Responsibilities):

• Grow, mentor and lead the H3’s AI, data science and data engineering team.
• Ensuring that team members are clear about expected standards of performance,motivated and developed to provide effective and efficient services.
• Building on H3’s AI roadmap, lead the development of the H3’s AI and data science vision, strategy and capability plan.
• Continue to develop H3’s AI data microservices and infrastructure, and integrate the latest data models and data pipelines, establishing a model management approach that is best in class for responsible data use.
• Provide expertise in statistics and probability, and the evaluation of data use, algorithm and models for internal development

Work experience/Skills required:

• Possessing a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; Higher education qualifications in computer vision, machine-learning, statistics and/or technology also preferred –computer science, software engineering etc.
• Significant (5 years +) experience in AI, data science and computer vision.
• Significant experience of recruiting, establishing and managing a data science / AI team
• Significant experience of developing a data strategy and data governance approach
• Significant experience of designing, developing, deploying and managing algorithms, models, and model management approaches.
• Significant experience of delivering machine learning and data analysis projects. Generating data insights
• Industry-specific knowledge; Facilities Management/Built Environment/Civil Engineering is a huge bonus
