Job Description

The Mass Spectrometry (MS) Lab comprises many MS and its tandem techniques such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization, etc. This lab provides data analysis services and training not only to students and researchers at the Department of Chemistry but also to other departments within NUS and external institutions.

The MS range of equipment requires highly specialised skills.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guide and perform sample analysis for students and researchers from Department of Chemistry, other departments in NUS and external organizations.
  • Perform regular testing of instruments to ensure accurate operations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the equipment.
  • Train users to enable them to operate the equipment independently.
  • Provide professional consultation and interpretation of acquired data.
  • Support ad-hoc activities in outreach, examinations, IT, conference events and safety matters.
Qualifications/Requirements/Other Information
  • University degree in Chemistry or related subject, preferably with good laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in operating the MS, GC/MS, LC/MS, etc. instruments.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work Independently, as well as be a good team player.
  • Highly committed with good service-oriented attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnostic liaison role will be a hybrid of field-based and office-based diagnostic professional with scientific, diagnostics, and therapeutic area expertise.
  • Gain insights through field engagement (50% of time in field) to aid in the development of local diagnostic strategies
  • Identify barriers and unmet needs of diagnostics testing through engagement with histo lab, molecular diagnostics labs, lab networks and HCPs
  • Execution of tactical plans locally to support and educate on appropriate testing.
  • Responsible for compiling diagnostics data, monitoring the number and performance of testing to ensure labs providing timely, high quality in-market companion diagnostics / testing solutions.
  • Work in full coordination with the Field Sales Team, Medical Scientific Liaisons, and cross functional team to carry out tactical plans and provide responses to diagnostics inquires
  • Primary point of contact of external diagnostics stakeholders, e.g., pathologists or molecular pathologists, molecular diagnostics kit suppliers, scientific experts, laboratory team, Health Care Professionals (HCP), and scientific organizations.

Essential Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree; preferably an advanced degree in health sciences, life sciences or biomedical sciences.
  • Thorough knowledge of the molecular diagnostics technologies e.g., NGS, ISH, etc. Preferably with hands on experience in molecular lab.
  • Understanding of local molecular diagnostic and clinical testing landscape especially in oncology field. Experience in oncology diagnostic and pharmaceutical company will be an advantage.
  • Proven ability to communicate and build strong collaborative relationships with a broad base of external customers including patients, prescribers, payers, providers, and thorough knowledge of diagnostic test regulatory environment (preferred)

Reporting to the Head of Lab Science (Laboratory Medicine) under the professional supervision of Head of Department, Laboratory Medicine, the Sr Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead will provide a combination of strategic, clinical, operational, and research directions in advancing NUH genomic services to enable excellence in patient care.

The Sr Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient and innovative genomic services, ensuring adherence to ACMG (American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics) standards. This role will encompass providing scientific advice for highly complex clinical cases, and spearheading research and development initiatives. This position aligns closely with the institutional goals of advancing genomic medicine and precision healthcare.

The Challenges

Responsibilities and Duties

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead, strategise and oversee the provision of advanced genomic services, ensuring comprehensive management of all clinical and developmental aspects.
  • Provide expert interpretation and reporting of highly complex genomic analyses, including DNA sequencing and chromosome structural variants.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of scientific principles in service delivery, with a focus on troubleshooting and optimizing laboratory assays.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical geneticists and genetic counsellors to support clinical decision-making.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and clinical relevance of a wide range of routine and highly specialised genetic tests.
  • Supervise the laboratory’s participation in external quality control programmes to maintain compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
  • To work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, medical laboratory scientists, operations and administrative personnel, to drive integrated service delivery.
  • Participate in the management process within the laboratory, including human resource management, staff development and strategic planning.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by reporting officer.

Job Requirements:

Qualification :

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in genetics, genomics, human genetics, or a related field within the biological sciences
  • Completed training in an ABMGG or equivalent postdoctoral training program and be board certified

Experience :

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in variants interpretation based on ACMG guidelines in a clinical setting
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership or supervisory position, demonstrating capabilities in leading a team
  • Hands-on experience working with large NGS datasets, human mutation databases, functional annotation sources, and genome browsers
  • Knowledge and experience of quality management systems, including compliance with ISO15189 and/or CAP standards or equivalent
  • Strong analytical capabilities, scientific writing and communication skills
  • Critically review, comprehend, document relevant clinical and functional data from scientific publications and online databases
  • Positive attitude, proactive mindset and a willingness to take initiative

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Lab Science (Laboratory Medicine) under the professional supervision of Head of Department, Laboratory Medicine, the Sr Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead will provide a combination of strategic, clinical, operational, and research directions in advancing NUH genomic services to enable excellence in patient care. The Sr Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver efficient and innovative genomic services, ensuring adherence to ACMG (American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics) standards. This role will encompass providing scientific advice for highly complex clinical cases, and spearheading research and development initiatives. This position aligns closely with the institutional goals of advancing genomic medicine and precision healthcare. The Challenges Responsibilities and Duties You will be responsible for the following: Lead, strategise and oversee the provision of advanced genomic services, ensuring comprehensive management of all clinical and developmental aspects. Provide expert interpretation and reporting of highly complex genomic analyses, including DNA sequencing and chromosome structural variants. Apply a thorough understanding of scientific principles in service delivery, with a focus on troubleshooting and optimizing laboratory assays. Collaborate effectively with medical geneticists and genetic counsellors to support clinical decision-making. Be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and clinical relevance of a wide range of routine and highly specialised genetic tests. Supervise the laboratory’s participation in external quality control programmes to maintain compliance with clinical and regulatory standards. To work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, medical laboratory scientists, operations and administrative personnel, to drive integrated service delivery. Participate in the management process within the laboratory, including human resource management, staff development and strategic planning. Perform any other duties as assigned by reporting officer. Job Requirements: Qualification : Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in genetics, genomics, human genetics, or a related field within the biological sciences Completed training in an ABMGG or equivalent postdoctoral training program and be board certified Experience : Minimum 4 years of experience in variants interpretation based on ACMG guidelines in a clinical setting Minimum 3 years in a leadership or supervisory position, demonstrating capabilities in leading a team Hands-on experience working with large NGS datasets, human mutation databases, functional annotation sources, and genome browsers Knowledge and experience of quality management systems, including compliance with ISO15189 and/or CAP standards or equivalent Strong analytical capabilities, scientific writing and communication skills Critically review, comprehend, document relevant clinical and functional data from scientific publications and online databases Positive attitude, proactive mindset and a willingness to take initiative High level of attention to details with strong organization skills and ability to work under tight timeline Interested applicants are invited to email a detailed resume stating your current and expected salary to
