Summary/Objective

Assist the Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager with all safety and environmental initiatives. Essential Functions/ Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and implementing safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Update safety policies in accordance with regulatory changes and company objectives.
  • Perform regular inspections and audits of the workplace to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and company policies.
  • Coordinate safety and environmental training with the Learning & Development department to ensure associates are trained in proper safety practices and emergency procedures.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, or near misses to determine root causes.
  • Ensure all safety documentation is up to date, including but not limited to safety incidents, inspections, audits, and training.
  • Maintain safety and environmental metrics.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Ensure the organization complies with all applicable safety regulations and standards, including ISO 14001 standards, and assist in preparing for regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Provide guidance on safety-related issues and work closely with management to integrate safety practices into daily operations.
  • Conduct machine risk assessments to assist in developing lockout-tagout instructions and ensure ongoing lockout-tagout compliance.
  • Perform job hazard assessments of Samtec work processes.
  • Control shipments of hazardous waste to ensure that all applicable laws are met.
  • Manage and coordinate shipment of in-house recyclable materials.
  • MSDS management; acquisition and assignment.
  • Maintain various safety equipment and systems; safety stations, eyewash stations, spill kits, fire extinguishers, etc.

Required Experience

  • 1 Year Experience as an Environmental and/or Safety Coordinator.
  • Both written and verbal communication skills are a must. Discussions will take place with local, state, and federal agencies regarding environmental compliance.
  • Travel on a limited basis will be required.
  • Must be able to sit/stand for at least 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Must be willing to adhere to department safety rules and regulations. May be exposed to noise (required to wear protective gear). May be exposed to Hazardous Materials & Chemicals (required to wear safety glasses and other protective gear).

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Occupational Safety, or similar field.
  • On the Job experience may replace or supplement educational requirements.

Training Required

  • On the job training as appropriate.

Reimagine What’s Possible

  • Manage the Environment Health & Safety key performance indicators for Malaysia. Support to drive continuous enhancement in the overall performance and provide senior level oversight on the implementation of key global EHS improvement programs.

  • Maintain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications for applicable sites.
  • Support major hazards installations programs and participate in hazard review studies for new projects, existing plant modifications and improvement projects.
  • Respond to EHS incidents and support incident investigation process. Coordinate reporting of EHS incidents with site managers. Maintain EHS statistics for the organization. Provide periodic trend analysis and recommend area for improvement.
  • Plan and conduct annual EHS classroom training. Identify new trainings, internal and external for employees, supervisors and managers to meet their EHS goals.
  • Drive EHS awareness and excellent EHS performance for area under his/her responsibility by carrying out EHS system assessments, site safety inspections and BSP program audits. Recommend improvement where necessary and report findings to country General Manager and SEA EHS Manager.
  • Maintain close ties with external resources and professional forums and ensure that AP retains functional leadership role within the industry through active leadership involvement with industry organizations.
  • Support Line Management and business to ensure all applicable EHS regulations and requirements are complied in all activities.

Minimum Requirements And Qualifications

  • Degree in EHS, Engineering or Science.
  • DOSH qualification and Green Book Holder
  • 3-5 years EHS experience in gas industry or chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Be familiar with local Environment Safety & Health regulations
  • Strong understanding of EHS programs and management systems such as ISO14001 and ISO45001 standard requirements.
  • Requires strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Requires strong technical and managerial skills
  • Willing to be based in Westport plant.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated professional to oversee environmental and product safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations and supporting sustainability efforts across Southeast Asia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain communication with the Asia Environmental Manager regarding issues and practices in Malaysia and Indonesia.
  • Review EHS corporate audit reports and conduct trend analysis for environmental findings.
  • Lead investigations on Environmental KPIs and major Near Miss incidents, providing trend analysis and recommendations.
  • Review monthly environmental performance and violation reports, collaborating with regional specialists.
  • Support data collection and analysis for global sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure environmental compliance in projects and operational improvements.
  • Represent Air Products Malaysia at industry and regulatory meetings.
  • Conduct environmental audits and site inspections, recommending improvements.
  • Engage with authorities on environmental and product safety issues.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering or Science, with relevant EHS qualifications.
  • At least 3 years of experience in environmental management within the gas or chemical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of local environmental and SDS regulations.
  • Understanding of ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong technical and managerial capabilities.
  • Willingness to be based in Prai or Shah Alam.

Reimagine What’s Possible
