Job Description
· 24 hour continuing responsibility for nursing service and the provision of clinical leadership to the nursing team.
· Ensure safe and effective clinical practice.
· Manage and develop the performance of the team.
· Contribute to the delivery of organizational objectives.
· Manage, control and review all financial and other resources allocated to the unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Direct and supervise overall operation of nursing at designated area of care.
2. Conduct regular ward rounds on patients to plan and organize the activities of the wards/units.
3. Work closely with the nursing team, consultants and collaborate with other departments to ensure safe and effective care.
4 Responsible for the safety standards of the unit to deliver safe nursing care to patient.
5. Ensure the practice of nursing care plans in the delivery of care.
6. Ensure proper documentation of patient care.
7. Conduct meeting /briefing to staff to ensure smooth running of the assigned unit.
8. Ensure adequate staffing for the units.
9. Plan work assignments and schedules.
10. Arrange and recommend vacation schedules for the staff.
11. Counsel staff on personal and work problems.
12. Conduct and/ or assign orientation for new staff.
13. Participate in the supervision of newly qualified staff.
14. Responsible for in-service education programs. Assess and provide continuing education needs and requirements of staff relevant to technological developments, changing licensure requirements, standards of practice and revisions in policies and procedures.
15. Guide the staff in solving complaints concerning patient, relatives and staff.
16. Evaluate the work performance of the staff and recommend for confirmation, incentives or promotion.
17 Deploy staff between wards/units supervised to meet day-to-day workload and emergencies.
18. Ensure policies and procedures are communicated, understood and correctly applied by the staff.
19. Keep up to date with relevant changes in nursing practice.
20. Ensure that credentialing relating to procedures, equipment, and supplies are provided to appropriate staff.
21. Maintain and update inventory and ensure there is a planned preventive maintenance of biomedical devices and equipment.
22. Ensure care of equipment and report any malfunction to Bio-med department.
23. Take appropriate action of incidents and develop plan of actions.
24. Assist the Chief of Nursing Services/ in the investigation of incident reporting, suspected infections and patient/ doctor complaints and resolved problems or make recommendation for action.
25. Provide management/ supervisory cover for the Nursing Department when the need arises.
26. Generate monthly report and provide ward census to the Chief of Nursing Services.
27. Be a member of the Disaster Plan Team. Participate actively and fully committed in activities of the QA, Infection Control, Fire and Safety program.
28. Review and inform Chief of Nursing Services regarding nursing unit problems and needs, recommending changes in the policies and procedures.
29. Provide justification to the Chief of Nursing Services for equipment purchase and supplies required by the unit.
30. Plan and recommend annual unit budget.
31. Liaise with admission staff on bed board management.
32. Participate in Health Education of the patient and family.
33. Practice infection control guidelines.
34, Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
35. For ER Nurse Manager, he/she will assist CMO to manage the mortuary services as according to the hospital, regulatory and ethical requirements.
Education and Requirements:
· State Registered Nurse/ Medical Assistant with at least 10 years of experience.
· Minimum 5 years at Supervisory level.
· Post-basic certificate in Midwifery is required .
· Degree in nursing is an added advantage.
· Valid annual practicing certificate.
Special Demands:
· Good working attitude.
· Possess good leadership, negotiation, communication and interpersonal relationship skills and good judgment. Has good analytical skill to interpret and analyze data and reports.

The circulating nurse is also responsible for coordinating activities in the event of an emergency. In short, the circulating nurse is the ‘critical thinker,’ preparing for and responding to all situations that affect patient care and safety throughout operative procedures.

Provide nursing care for patients within the operating department and recovery room.
Perform operating room unit work in accordance with agreed standards and policies.
Carry out safety checks of swabs, instruments and needles in conjunction with a second nurse and completes appropriate written and verbal communication to all relevant parties.
Perform as a circulating member of the operating room team.
Participate in Surgical Safety Checklist (briefing, time out, debriefing)
Check labels and dispatch specimens to the laboratory for testing.
Recover patients after surgery according to CTMH DH policy and procedures, and complete necessary documentation.
Provide assistance to the Anesthetist, scrub nurse, and surgical team.
Assures patient comfort and safe transference of patient from stretcher/wheelchair to operating table and vice versa.
Assist other members of the team in preparing and cleaning the operating room.
Assist with booking cases for surgery and compiling data for monthly reports.
Ensure that appropriate stock levels and equipment is maintained in the O.R.; check stores ensure the unit is adequately prepared for surgical emergencies.

Assist other members of the team in preparing and cleaning the operating room.
Assist with booking cases for surgery and compiling data for monthly reports.
Ensure that appropriate stock levels and equipment is maintained in the O.R.; check stores to ensure the unit is adequately prepared for surgical emergencies.
Assist in compiling and updating the operating room Policy and Procedure Manual.
Participate in clinical trials of new equipment and supplies.
Evaluate the service ability of existing equipment.
Work within professional guidelines as laid down by The Cayman Islands Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Ethics for Nurses.
Maintain and update own knowledge continuously, seeking out learning opportunities and participating in ongoing education.
Foster a learning environment for the benefit of staff in Theatre and Recovery Room.
Assist less experienced staff to develop their skills in O.R. Nursing.
Demonstrate flexibility with roster to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.
Discuss any problems or potential problems with the Clinical Coordinator or Nurse in Charge.
Such other duties appropriate to the post may be assigned from time to time, by the hospital authority through the Director of Nursing Services.
Keep up to date with mandatory training such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Circulating Nurse:
Receives patients from ward nurse with completed medical and nursing pre-operative assessment, consent form signed and pre-operative checklist completed and signed by both parties.
Prepare the OR by reviewing surgeon's preferences for the surgery, instrumentation, equipment, sterile supplies; assist with set-up of surgical field and pre-surgery count of instruments, sponges, sharps, and miscellaneous items with scrub person)
Provide nursing care for patients within the operating department and recovery room.

Recover patients after surgery according to CTMH DH policy and procedures, and complete necessary documentation.

Assures patient comfort and safe transference of patient from stretcher/wheelchair to operating table and vice versa.

Degree from an accredited school of Nursing.
Minimum of five years recent relevant Post Graduate experience in an O.R. setting.
Operating theatre experience required and Post Graduate theatre course desirable but not essential.
Proven experience as operating room nurse (circulating and scrub)
Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques
Solid understanding of patient safety and precautions
In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures
A great team player with excellent communication skills
Must be a critical thinker
Cool tempered with emotional and physical stamina
Demonstrate experience in mentorship/preceptorship.
Have a strong commitment to pre and post registration nurse education.
Demonstrate the practice of teaching in the clinical area.
Display evidence of continuing professional development.
Computer skills essential. Personal competencies
Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate working well as part of a multidisciplinary team Accountability: The OT Registered Nurse will be accountable to the Clinical Coordinator – O.R. with secondary reporting lines to the Chief Nurse. Requirements
Possess Post Basic in ICU/Degree/Diploma in Nursing and must be registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Staff Nurse ICU. Preferably candidate with experience in special units and Post Basic certificate. Possess valid latest APC 2024. Willing to be deployed and work on shifts.
