Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow in Flavour Chemistry (Sensomics Approach) to join our analytical flavour science team. As part of the Proteins4Singapore project, the Research Fellow will lead experimental research focused on the identification, quantification, and sensory validation of aroma-active and taste-active compounds in alternative protein products. This position combines instrumental flavour analysis (LC-MS) with sensory evaluation techniques (e.g. profiling, discrimination tests, and threshold determinations) to support the development of appealing next-generation food products.
This is a fixed term contract until March 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute analytical workflows combining LC-MS, and sensory data to map aroma and taste compound profiles.
- Conduct sensory analysis of food (e.g. profiling, discrimination tests, and threshold determinations)
- Develop and validate analytical methods for aroma precursor and flavor compound quantification in raw and processed samples.
- Collaborate with experts in protein extraction and process engineering to translate analytical findings into product insights.
- Write scientific manuscripts, contribute to project reports, and present findings at international conferences and stakeholder meetings.
Key Competencies
- Proven expertise in flavour chemistry, food metabolomics, or analytical chemistry with hands-on experience in LC-MS workflows.
- At least 1 year of experience with sensory evaluation/sensomics techniques is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of aroma compound biosynthesis, Maillard reaction chemistry, or fermentation-derived flavour generation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex analytical results to multidisciplinary teams.

The World Economic Forum (the Forum) is an International Organisation for Public-Private Cooperation, engaging global leaders to shape major agendas across sectors. Its Centre for Health and Healthcare focuses on enhancing healthcare systems by scaling solutions for resilience, efficiency, and equity through diverse stakeholder engagement.
The Centre has launched the "Digital Healthcare Transformation (DHT) Initiative," a multi-year program to boost public-private partnerships in digital health, data, and AI. This initiative complements the Global Health Equity Network (GHEN), which promotes health equity and patient-centred system transformation.
Singapore, a leader in healthcare delivery and equity due to its investment in digital health, will be highlighted as a World Economic Forum Centre for Health and a Healthcare Country Lighthouse. This collaboration aims to showcase Singapore's healthcare success globally and identify opportunities for Public-Private Partnerships to advance health equity through digital transformation.
The fellowship is for 3 years (or until February 2028, whichever comes first, if applicable). Initially, a 1-year contract will be offered, renewable based on performance.
Purpose of the PostThis role is based in Singapore and hosted within the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Fellow will be involved in projects from the Forum's Centre for Health and Healthcare. The Fellow will report directly to the Forum's Lead for Digital Healthcare Transformation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- The Fellow will act as project manager and content expert in Digital Healthcare Transformation and will work in partnership with a paired Fellow in Health Equity.
- Working on the topics of digital health and health data to research and draft a White Paper on Singapore's health system transformation journey, including leading interviews with key Digital Healthcare Transformation stakeholders and identifying future opportunities for collaboration.
- Develop and execute a dissemination plan for key learnings from the paper, including public engagement opportunities and convening interested stakeholders to share best practices.
- Support the broader GHEN team to incubate and manage a regional public-private working group focused on specific Digital Healthcare gaps and opportunities identified in the research, to support the building on existing Singapore-led work in Southeast Asia to develop and execute a dissemination plan of key learnings and best practices identified via Forum events and public engagement channels as well as collaboration in digital health area.
