Job DescriptionThe WITEC IRG at SMART is seeking a qualified candidate for a Postdoctoral Associate position supervised by professors from MIT and Singapore. This position will entail the following technical responsibilities:
1. Lead the fabrication (via two-photon lithography) and development of acoustic metamaterials as components in wearable ultrasound systems for long-term cardiovascular monitoring. Investigate effects of microstructure on the resulting properties.
2. Develop computational mechanics workflows to predict acoustic properties and guide the design of metamaterials.
3. Develop experimental methods to validate the responses of the acoustic metamaterials, using a variety of ultrasonic excitation modalities.
4. Work closely with clinical partners to support protocol development, data acquisition, and analysis for pilot studies and clinical validation.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements1. Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
2. Solid background in acoustics, metamaterials, and solid mechanics.
3. Proficiency in programming languages and environments such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
4. Hands-on experience with high-resolution additive manufacturing technologies, particularly two-photon lithography or similar platforms is preferred.
5. Experience in mechanics experimentation . Experience with ultrasound/acoustics techniques is preferred.
6. Prior experience in mechanics simulations, experience with Abaqus, COMSOL is preferred .

Job Title/Position:
Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Process modelling, Technoeconomic assessment and Life cycle analysis)
Job Purpose/Objective of the Position:
You will be working in the Proteins4Singapore (P4S) programme, a comprehensive research programme with renowned scientists of plant and food technology, food chemistry, and business sustainability. Interdisciplinary teams will generate state-of-the-art methods and techniques to ensure a sustainable protein supply in highly urbanized environments.
The focus of research is on the evaluation of alternative protein production processes. We will establish total value assessments of protein supply chains for technologies developed from this project as well as for the major existing animal and plant-based sources of protein. The key methodologies used in this project are process modelling, techno-economic analysis (TEA), life cycle assessment/analysis (LCA), and supply chain analysis. The project will be at the interface of food sciences, process modelling, TEA, LCA, and supply chain optimization.
This is a fixed term contract until March 2027.
Job Responsibilities:
- Data collection for performing process modelling on existing and developed protein production, extraction and processing technologies in this project.
- Performing technoeconomic and total value assessment of the processes developed in this project.
- Evaluate different modes of protein-rich biomass (soy and microalgae) and understand the entire supply chain from food security perspective.
- Performing LCA for evaluating the environmental footprint of different processes/process configurations and comparing them.
Job Requirements/Competencies:
- Good understanding of process modelling, LCA and TEA.
- At least 1 year of experience in food processing related process will be highly valued.
- Experience in the software tools.

Qualification Requirements: PhD in Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Environmental Engineering/ Industrial Engineering with strong skills in mathematical modelling, process modelling, Technoeconomic assessment and life cycle analysis from a reputable university. Experience or interest in using process modelling tools and LCA tools in interdisciplinary work in the sustainability domain. Strong skills in English speaking and writing, problem-solving and communication.
