Your role

We are expanding our Production Engineering & Optimization team and looking for passionate individuals with an entrepreneurial mind-set to drive change in our business, and who enjoy working in dynamic, collaborative, and diverse global teams.

Currently, we have multiple opportunities for experienced Production Engineers with between 5 to 15 years' experience to join our team. The role is based in Kuala Lumpur and you will work very closely with our global Technical and Operation teams to support ExxonMobil's global portfolio of Deepwater, Conventional, Unconventional and LNG assets.

What you will do
  • Collaborate with engineers and operators on global teams to analyze well/field performance and advise on production optimization.
  • Integrate with adjacent disciplines (Reservoir, Facilities or Process, Wells, Operations, Flow Assurance) to execute opportunities for production debottlenecking, production enhancement and idle well restoration.
  • Support Operation teams for operations schedule optimization, capacity enhancement, production planning and downtime optimization.
  • Conduct regular system surveillance for production and injection wells to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Assess impact of identified system constraints, monitor, and troubleshoot facility balance at field/platform/well level.
  • Conduct screening economic evaluations of well intervention and stimulation operations.
  • Manage production data, measurement and allocation quality assurance.
  • Build/sustain proprietary production engineering technology.
About you

Skills and Qualifications

To be eligible for this role, you must have the following:

  • Bachelor's or Master's engineering degree from a recognized university in petroleum / chemical / mechanical / other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in oil and gas industry specializing in either Petroleum Engineering, Production Engineering or Production Technology.
  • Operational experiences, particularly in:
  • Inflow/outflow/flowline modeling
  • Production well testing and allocation principles
  • Network modeling and facilities operations
  • Well design, completion, intervention and stimulation technologies
  • Artificial lift methods and systems
  • Reservoir and Facilities surveillance
  • Production surveillance, troubleshooting and optimization of well and field performance
  • Hands on experience with proprietary or vendor engineering analysis tools within the experience domain.
  • Be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to manage workload under time pressure and changing priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural global team and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Field/Operation, mentorship and team leadership experience

  • Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Power BI, SeeQ, XHQ) and scripting skills (e.g. Python).
  • Experience in Production Database Management (e.g. Energy Components, PL/SQL).

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Petroleum Engineer with a strong background in upstream oil and gas operations to join our team. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for AI applications in upstream oil and gas processes.
  • Provide domain expertise in areas such as reservoir characterization, drilling optimization, production forecasting, and well performance analysis.
  • Assist in developing and validating AI models for predictive maintenance, reservoir simulation, seismic data interpretation, and production optimization.
  • Analyze complex datasets from upstream operations (e.g., well logs, seismic data, drilling parameters) to support model development.
  • Work with data scientists to ensure AI models align with petroleum engineering principles and operational requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas operations (exploration, drilling, reservoir management, or production).
  • Strong understanding of reservoir engineering, drilling technologies, and production systems.
  • Experience working with large datasets, such as well logs, seismic data, or production data.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their applications in the oil and gas industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred

  • Master's degree or PhD in Petroleum Engineering or a related discipline.

Support Operation teams for operations schedule optimization, capacity enhancement, production planning and downtime optimization. Skills and Qualifications To be eligible for this role, you must have the following: Bachelor's or Master's engineering degree from a recognized university in petroleum / chemical / mechanical / other relevant engineering disciplines. Minimum 5 years of work experience in oil and gas industry specializing in either Petroleum Engineering, Production Engineering or Production Technology. Job Requirements

  • Active business development of MC services to Malaysia-based clients and international clients interested in the Malaysian market, with focus on Strategy services. MC services include market analysis, power market modelling, and market price projections; transaction services (especially market and commercial due diligence); energy transition advisory/strategy and corporate decarbonisation advisory/strategy from market and commercial perspectives; economic, techno-economic, and financial modelling; electricity market design; renewable energy procurement; portfolio analysis and optimisation; and similar.
  • Development of thought leadership materials and presentations.
  • Collaborating with other AFRY units as appropriate and representing MC’s capabilities in multi-disciplinary and multi-department projects such as waste to energy, gas/LNG-fired power plants, CCS, green hydrogen/ammonia, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), biomass to power, transmission and interconnectors, data centres, and nuclear power.
  • Acting as Project Manager or Project Director (depending on the project) for selected MC projects in Malaysia or focusing on Malaysia.
