Responsibilities
- Support Zoom In strategies; COGS reduction, driving cost-saving initiatives with strong project pipelines to reduce costs without compromising quality.
- Initiate projects related to material obsolescence caused by unforeseen circumstances such as global material shortages, supplier changes to ESG-friendly materials, supplier relocations, market demand fluctuations, geopolitical issues, etc.
- Mitigate supply risks by identifying potential alternatives including new materials, specifications, suppliers, processes, and technologies.
- Support the material sourcing process by evaluating samples and developing potential projects.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency, and productivity improvements to meet departmental goals.
- Assist in supplier audits to assess their technical capabilities and competencies.
- Collaborate with Innovation & Quality teams to ensure compliance with design change processes and QHB standards.
- Mentor junior materials engineers as needed.
- Develop, execute, and document comprehensive test plans and strategies based on product requirements and usability.
- Identify products, components, and materials with the greatest cost reduction potential.
- Lead or participate in sourcing, developing product specifications, and implementing new materials into existing products.
- Re-engineer products following R&D Design Change procedures to optimize material costs while maintaining quality and performance.
- Document all activities in accordance with Design Control SOP.
- Coordinate with IE and production teams to ensure design for manufacturing in material change projects.
- Lead and participate in material change activities due to supplier changes and obsolescence.
- Review and approve project documents and deviations.
- Ensure high-quality, reproducible products in high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Execute projects in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, reporting resource usage and involving relevant stakeholders globally.

The Advanced Materials Engineer position sits in the well-established Asia-Pacific Materials Integrity team based in Menara ExxonMobil, Kuala Lumpur. The role is to provide engineering support to Capital Projects and Operations teams across all business lines. What You Will Do
You will play a key role in our technical engineering decision-making. Key deliverables include:
- Provide engineering surveillance and technical support to the business for materials-related works
- Apply deep technical expertise and broad business acumen to solve more complex problems.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to non-routine problems
- Provide materials specialist support for large capital projects and smaller regional projects to ensure technical quality
- Participates in global and site-wide programs aimed at improving unit reliability and optimizing maintenance
- Provides on-site field support during scheduled maintenance activities
- Represent ExxonMobil in industry and external engagement activities (e.g. MTI, API and AMPP) where appropriate
- Mentor early career materials integrity engineers to support their career development.
- Senior Non-Metallic Materials Engineer
- Demonstrated work experience and knowledge of non-metallics industry codes, standards and practices applied to materials selection, testing, and failure analysis.
- Field experience with coatings and linings for upstream, refining and petrochemical (CUI coatings, thermal insulation coatings, etc.).
- Experience with composites materials for Oil & Gas applications (GRE, RTP, Flexible pipes, etc.), including materials system design, inspection, and maintenance.
- Experienced in leading new non-metallic technology development and deployment.
- History of working with technology vendors and application contractors in support of field activities or capital projects.
- Broad knowledge and work experience in corrosion protection is valued.
- Senior Corrosion Engineer
- Advice the development of equipment strategies and integrity operating windows involving higher complexity corrosion mechanisms (e.g., crude corrosion, acid gas corrosion, etc.)
- Collaborate with other disciplines (Process, Pipeline, Flow Assurance, Mechanical Integrity etc.) to recommend corrective actions, upgrade integrity programs and equipment strategies.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of corrosion data from various sources (corrosion coupons/spools, probes, sensors, inspection reports, process conditions and fluids analyses) to support global business units and manufacturing sites.
- Lead the design of fit-for-purpose corrosion monitoring programs for facilities and review of detailed designs for corrosion monitoring equipment.
- Perform risk assessments, root cause failure analysis, and provide recommendations for corrosion or erosion related threats.
- Perform or supervise predictive corrosion modelling with modelling tools, basic corrosion calculations and use corrosion design curves to support operations and capital projects.
- Senior Materials Engineer (Metallurgy, Fabrication & Welding)
- Perform a failure analysis for a problem involving metallurgical deficiency or a change in material properties.
- Participate in the development of a specification for the procurement of new equipment.
- Review a materials certificate/test report/mill certificate to confirm conformance with specification requirements.
- Review material manufacturing, and fabrication or installation specification for common applications. Participate in mill audits, vendor evaluations, or production runs for routine materials manufacturing work.
- Participate in studies to assess the performance of a material or assembly. Troubleshoot a materials manufacturing production, and fabrication or installation problem.
- Review welding procedure and consumable selection to determine suitability for common applications and conformance with industry codes and standards.
- Review test lab results in investigating the metallurgy of a weld, examining welds rejected from procedure qualification/production testing, and studying of weld defects.
- Reviews and comments on Inspection and Test Plan or Inspection Instructions related to welding.
- Senior Integrity Engineer
- Develop, implement, maintain, and improve integrity management systems for new projects and existing operations. Includes consideration of corrosion management equipment/systems, process surveillance, and monitoring/inspections.
- Execute and continuously improve in-field integrity execution plans, applying Integrity Management System tools and standards. Consider work program prioritization of preventative and corrective integrity management tasks, execution planning, contractor management and work process optimization.
- Application of fitness for service (FFS) methods to pipelines, static equipment and related systems for assessment of corrosion, cracks and other damages.
- Facilitate medium to high complexity reliability investigations, requiring advanced root cause and troubleshooting techniques.
- Review and/or advise medium to high complexity repair solutions for equipment failure.
Skills & Qualifications
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Have Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree /PhD in Materials Engineering
- Have at least 10 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry
- Be able to demonstrate work experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Welding/fabrication and Inspection/Testing
- Metallurgy and manufacturing
- Materials selection
- Failure Analysis

Ensure time-to-release of new material utilizing the most efficient technology for cost, quality, manufacturability and reliability effectiveness.
Job Description
In your new role you will:
- Source, characterize, develop, and implement new Direct Material meeting product specification and business requirement.
- Make recommendation for material selection based on design objectives.
- Work in global teams / environment to deliver committed Value Engineering project targets.
- Work in global teams / environment to deliver committed Material Change to meet quality and business requirement with and without customer notification.
- Handover and know how transfer to production after qualification and support ramp up.
- Drive a culture based of equipment improvement on maintenance routines and engineering solutions using training, systematic troubleshooting and root cause corrective actions.
You are best equipped for this task if you have:
- Masters/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Microelectronics / Mechatronics / Semiconductor Technology, Material science) or equivalent.
- 5 years working experiences in semiconductor assembly manufacturing environment.
- Statistical data analysis, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Systematic Problem Solving methodology e.g. 8D, DMAIC, Process Mapping, FTA, Fish Bond.
- Good knowledge and ability in 2D drawing; Able to do basic designing using Autocad.
- Good knowledge in material science.

- Responsible to derive operation direct material supplier source strategy / roadmap.
- Responsible for 2nd source supplier qualification/business continuity to secure material supply.
- Make recommendation & material selection based on quality, reliability& manufacturability.
- Drive material cost down and secure material supply through identifying and qualifying alternate material types, supplier/ source or suppliers’ production location.
- Responsible for technical troubleshooting on material deviations and collaborate with cluster functions to restore supply and prevent line down
- Responsible for the development and sustenance of technical engineering knowhow of workforce.
You are best equipped for this task if you have:
- Degree in Material/ Chemical/ Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, Applied Science or any equivalent engineering discipline.
- 5 years working experiences in semiconductor assembly manufacturing environment, knowledge in polymer science will be advantage in this position.
