About the Role

The Legal Advisor will be responsible for independently delivering day-to-day legal and commercial services to the Boustead Geospatial Group’s (BGG) Malaysian operations including Esri Malaysia and Boustead Geospatial Technologies, in a pragmatic and commercially sound manner, ensuring that legal and commercial risks are effectively managed, regulatory obligations are met, and strategic objectives are supported.

What you'll do:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for legal and commercial issues in Malaysia.
  • Drafting, reviewing and undertaking the negotiation process of a broad range of commercial agreements, including sales, vendor, procurement, license, non-disclosure, referral, partnership, service and various other agreements.
  • Providing opinion or recommendation on wide-ranging legal and commercial issues relating to the business, including issues such as transactional and commercial law, licensing, litigation and/or disputes, data privacy and protection, regulatory and intellectual property. You will work directly with the cross-functional departments to provide on-the-ground support and identify potential legal issues.
  • Support the company implementation of the data privacy/protection regime, including:
  • Advising on changes in laws, and taking a leading role in BGG policy development
  • Being a Privacy Data Officer, and
  • Participating in the Privacy and Data Protection committee.
  • Identifying and advising on issues and compliance risks.
  • Collaborating and managing with external legal offices/consultants.
  • Support local business strategies, goals and practices in alignment with Group strategies, programs and objectives.
  • Carry out any other activities directed by the BGG Head of Legal and Commercial.

About You

We are seeking a seasoned Legal Advisor with strong business acumen and deep experience in commercial and legal matters to support our operations in Malaysia.

We believe that to be successful in this role you will need:

  • Law, Business or Finance degree from a leading university with strong academic performance.
  • Admitted or has previously held the right to practice in Malaysia, with at least 5 years relevant experience, ideally a combination of law firm or in-house roles, or can demonstrate highly developed contract analysis and drafting skills.
  • A genuine interest in developing a career in a transactionally focused career that covers a wide range of areas of law, from commercial, intellectual property and privacy law.
  • Experience acting as Privacy Officer and/or first point of contact for Privacy matters highly regarded.
  • Sound knowledge of contractual practice, familiarity with contracting schemes for IT projects, public and private procurement (at all levels of government, through local authorities to federal agencies) would be well regarded.
  • Pragmatic approach with the ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and business objectives.
  • Strong negotiation and risk management skills, able to operate at multiple levels including with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organisational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to collaborate effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment.
  • Positive, motivated and resilient attitude with proven client engagement skills.

Senior Legal Advisor - Upstream Oil & Gas

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Advisor to support the legal function within an upstream oil and gas company. This role reports to the Head of Legal and will focus on reviewing and negotiating key petroleum contracts and agreements, including Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), and other upstream project agreements.

You will provide legal risk assessments, support dispute resolution, and advise on regulatory and corporate matters relevant to the upstream sector. Managing external counsel and liaising with internal stakeholders and industry partners will also be key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and negotiate upstream oil and gas agreements to protect company interests
  • Advise on legal risks related to business decisions and contracts
  • Support dispute, litigation, and arbitration processes
  • Monitor and advise on applicable laws, regulations, and industry developments
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to partners and stakeholders as needed
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel and internal teams

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years post-admission to Malaysian Bar
  • At least 8 years' experience in oil and gas legal advisory, particularly upstream contracts
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Familiarity with Malaysian upstream oil and gas sector, including PSCs and JOAs

Your Role As a

Legal Counsel

What You’ll Champion

  • Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters affecting Capital A’s operations.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant aviation, fintech, digital services, and corporate laws.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and provide updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including service agreements, vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and NDAs.
  • Identify potential legal risks in contracts and propose solutions to mitigate them.
  • Support the business in structuring legally compliant agreements aligned with company objectives.
  • Assist in managing legal disputes, claims, and litigation matters.
  • Work with external counsel to coordinate legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Support internal teams with risk mitigation strategies to prevent disputes.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance, data protection, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Assist in regulatory filings, licenses, and approvals required for business operations.
  • Support the protection and management of Capital A’s intellectual property portfolio.
  • Assist in legal matters related to technology, e-commerce, fintech, and digital assets.
  • Advise on data privacy and cybersecurity regulations impacting business operations.
  • Keep management informed about the latest legislative and regulatory developments.

Who You Are

  • LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws) from a recognized university; admission to the Malaysian Bar or equivalent qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal role.
  • Strong understanding of corporate law, contract law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
  • Experience in aviation, fintech, digital services, or technology-related legal matters is an advantage.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Job Description

  • Responsible to provide legal advice and support to the Tires sector in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan.
  • Responsible to identify and analyze legal risks.
  • Consistently monitors changes in legislation applicable to supported legal entities and timely inform affected stakeholders explaining how the changes may affect the business.
  • Support the development and implementation of solutions for risk avoidance or limitation.
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (customers, suppliers, public authorities etc.).
  • Taking part and advising in various projects in multiple legal areas with multiple stakeholders.
  • Responsible to draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents.
  • Use available contract management/approval tools.
  • Conduct workshops and training for assigned stakeholders.
  • Responsible to assist and support stakeholders in claim management, both in and out of court.
  • Cooperates with other central functions and departments within Continental.
  • Coordinates external law firms.
  • Regularly records and tracks all legal matters in applicable IT system(s) and provide an overview when required.
  • Responsible to uphold the confidentiality of information received and respects internal regulations/processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Law (LLB)
  • Qualified to practice in Malaysia
  • At least 3 years post qualification experience working as an in-house counsel or with a law firm
  • Experience in automotive or manufacturing industry will be a plus

Your Mission

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on contracts/legal documentations for transactions and operational matters of SD Guthrie group of companies, in particular, downstream operation
  • Interpret, analyse, identify, apply and resolve issues arising under the law and regulatory requirements
  • Providing updates on laws/regulatory matters that affect SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas.
  • Responsible for providing guidance and legal advice to internal stakeholders of SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas, as and when the need arises.
  • Liaising and coordinating with external solicitors on all matters involving SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas, as and when required.
  • Build and maintain a good business relationship with all the various internal and external stakeholders to safeguard the interest of SD Guthrie group of companies
  • Coach and motivate legal team to ensure high performance and delivery
  • To perform and carry out any other responsibilities as and when required by the superior on legal matters involving SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas.

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Law (LLB), Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP)
  • At least 10 years as an practicing lawyer and/or in-house legal counsel in a listed company/multi-national corporation

About This Role

Main responsibilities:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreements in the information technology field such as letters of intent, proofs of concept, services agreements, software licenses, data processing agreements and other technology-related contracts in relation to the distribution and implementation of software solutions across Asia Pacific (including China).
  • Providing legal support and advice to various functions within the business, including human resources, marketing, finance, product, delivery, procurement and tax on a variety of legal, compliance and contractual topics/issues. This includes conducting legal research on relevant laws, understanding risks arising and devising mitigation strategies to help the business manage accordingly.
  • Acting as a business partner for the commercial team and working closely with the account managers in supporting sales and business development initiatives.
  • Supporting the Director Legal, Civil – Flight Operations with other corporate transactions/projects in the region.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of various contract models, as well as internal policies for the Flight Operations business in line with current business needs and the anticipated growth of this sector, in collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Monitoring legal developments in the region and proactively advising the business on compliance measures tailored to suit the operations and needs of the relevant functions.
  • Engaging and managing outside counsel where specialized advice or support on more complex legal matters are required, including litigation.
  • Implementing legal & compliance trainings and other initiatives for the business across the region.
  • Collaborating with and contributing towards various projects of the global Legal team.
  • Providing advice on the interpretation of laws and regulations applicable to CAE’s activities and on the best practices applicable in the information technology sector.

Skills and Experience:

  • A law degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in good standing in at least one common law jurisdiction.
  • At least 7-10 years of qualified experience in an established law firm or as in-house counsel in an international organization.
  • Excellent proven contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Chinese (spoken and/or written) is a plus.
  • Relevant experience in IT law and in data protection laws/regulations is a significant asset.
