Overview*

The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing product manufacturing and interpreting product quality assurance testing results in the department. He/She is also responsible to undertake related laboratory activities in order to ensure smooth operation and provide quality laboratory services to our customers, both internal and external.

Job Responsibilities*

Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)

General

• Participate in the reception of cellular products and rejection of those that are unsuitable for further processing.
• Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols.
• Ensure that unsatisfactory values are reported to appropriate personnel
• Resolve queries from customers.
• Report procedure deviations and adverse incidents to the supervisor.
• Perform, record and interpret results of internal and external quality assurance procedures and take corrective action where indicated.
• Undertake simple preventative maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and perform simple troubleshooting in the event of malfunction.
• Comply with laboratory inventory management procedures. Notify appropriate laboratory personnel when test kits, reagents or other supplies should be re-ordered.
• Comply with good laboratory practice as set out by the International Laboratory Accreditation Program and Singapore regulatory agencies such as the Medical Audit & Accreditation Unit.
• Comply with all requirements of the Institutional as well as Departmental Safety Manual.
• Comply with Institutional IT Security and Data Governance
• Comply with Institutional and National PDPA Regulation
• Keep current with new instrumentation, techniques and procedures by attending/participating in appropriate workshops, seminars and in-service education classes.
• Assist with the conduct of in-service education and continuing education classes.
• Assist with coaching of trainees and new staff in laboratory procedures.
• Guide Laboratory Technicians, Clerical staff and Health Attendants in their work when required.
• Perform shift duties as required.
• Promptly carry out the instruction(s) of senior staff with regard to work procedures and duties.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities (20%)

• Undertake back-up procedures in the event of emergencies such as loss of electrical power and information system crash.
• Participate and contribute to project teams as required.
• Participate in laboratory administrative work such as filing, processing of deliveries orders and invoices.
• Evaluate new laboratory test methodologies and instrumentation.
• Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• BSc in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
• Good laboratory skills.

Job Responsibilities*

• Operate the Laboratory Information System to perform functions such as result query, order entry and result entry
• Perform waived tests and moderate complexity tests. Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory protocols
• Alert appropriate laboratory personnel of critical values.
• Report any adverse incidents to senior member of staff.
• Prepare reagents and materials that require special handling to ensure reliability
• Receive and resolve queries from customers
• Undertake preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation. Notify appropriate laboratory personnel when laboratory instruments malfunction
• Notify appropriate laboratory personnel when test kits, reagents or other supplies should be re-ordered
• Perform shift duties as required
• Keep current with new instrumentation, techniques and procedures by attending/participating in appropriate workshops, seminars and in-service education classes

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct Mendelian Randomization analyses to infer causal relationships between genetic variants and disease risk.
• Utilize and develop workflows using R for data analysis, including statistical modeling and visualization.
• Work with large-scale genomic datasets, including genome-wide association studies (GWAS), whole-genome sequencing (WGS), and polygenic risk scores (PRS).
• Perform survival analyses to examine genetic and epidemiological predictors of disease outcomes.
• Utilize DNAnexus or other cloud-based platforms for genomic data processing, storage, and computational workflows.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including biostatisticians, clinicians, and geneticists, to interpret findings and drive translational insights.
• Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.

Job Requirements:

• A PhD (or equivalent) in Genetic Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or a related field. Strong proficiency in Mendelian Randomization methods, including familiarity with MR-Base or other relevant tools.
• Expertise in R programming and experience with statistical packages (e.g., TwoSampleMR, survival, tidyverse, Bioconductor).
• Experience with handling and analyzing large genomic datasets, particularly GWAS, WGS, and PRS data.
• Experience with multi-ancestry genomic studies or integrating different omics datasets.
• Knowledge of genome-wide imputation methods and quality control procedures for genomic data.
• Exposure to machine learning approaches in genomics.
• Knowledge of survival analysis techniques (e.g., Kaplan-Meier, Cox proportional hazards models).
• Familiarity with DNAnexus or other cloud-based genomic analysis platforms is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data visualization skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications.

Overview

Lab Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Lab Technician to support the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist in conducting laboratory analyses related to biogas production. The Lab Technician will be responsible for collecting samples, performing routine tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment. This role is critical in ensuring accurate data collection and contributing to the efficient operation of the plant's biological and chemical processes. You will play an essential role in monitoring the health of microbial systems, ensuring optimal biogas production, and maintaining compliance with environmental standards.

1. Sample Collection & Preparation: Collect and prepare biological and chemical samples from the biogas production process, including feedstock, digestate, and following proper protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability.
2. Routine Laboratory Testing: Perform routine tests under the guidance of the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist, such as pH measurements, nutrient levels, and microbial health assessments. Ensure accurate data collection and timely reporting.
3. Data Recording & Reporting: Record laboratory test results accurately and organize data in logs or databases. Assist in preparing reports and summaries for the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist to support process optimization efforts.
4. Laboratory Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that laboratory instruments and equipment, such as pH meters, and centrifuges, are maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly. Report any equipment malfunctions or required maintenance to the supervisor.
5. Quality Control & Assurance: Assist in ensuring that all laboratory procedures follow established protocols and maintain a high standard of quality control. Help in verifying that testing results are consistent and reliable.
6. Chemical Inventory & Supplies Management: Monitor laboratory supplies, such as reagents, glassware, and consumables, ensuring that stock levels are adequate. Coordinate with the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist to reorder supplies when necessary.
7. Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures in the laboratory, including proper handling and disposal of chemicals and biological materials. Assist in maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.
8. Support for Research & Development: Provide assistance to the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist in research projects aimed at improving biogas production processes. Help in setting up experiments and collecting data as needed.

• Educational Background: Diploma or Degree in laboratory technology, biology, chemistry, or a related technical field.
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in an industrial or biogas-related facility.
• Laboratory Skills: Basic laboratory skills such as sample handling, equipment operation, and data recording. Familiarity with tests like pH measurement, gas chromatography, and microbial analysis is a plus.
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and precision when conducting tests and recording data.
• Technical Competence: Ability to operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment. Experience in maintaining laboratory cleanliness and ensuring quality control is essential.
• Data Management: Proficiency in maintaining logs, laboratory notebooks, and data systems.
• Safety Awareness: Familiarity with safety procedures and protocols in a laboratory environment, especially in handling chemicals and biological materials.
• Team Player: Ability to work closely with the Biologist/Chemist/Biochemist and contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory team.
