Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist, located in Kuala Lumpur. The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control, and collaborating with healthcare providers to support clinical diagnoses. The role also includes mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety protocols.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Molecular Laboratory Scientist/ Bioinformatics Scientist/ Genomic curator at Mahkota Medical Centre, located at Melaka. The Molecular Laboratory Scientist/ Bioinformatics Scientist/ Genomic curator will be responsible for handling specimens for molecular testing, performing molecular laboratory testing and analysis and maintaining laboratory records. The Molecular Laboratory Scientist/ Bioinformatics Scientist/ Genomic curator will also collaborate with other laboratory personnel to troubleshoot assays, ensure accurate results, and implement new methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing and managing genome curation platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
• Support in developing processes or models for variant prioritisation
• Receive training in tertiary analysis for whole genome sequencing (WGS) data and assist in data mining, curation and interpretation of genome sequencing results following current international standards
• Generate plots and figures to assist in the presentation of results
• Conduct basic literature reviews, research, and perform related clerical duties
• Participate in research and development activities
• Perform any other duties assigned as required

Qualification requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or above in Bioinformatic, Biomedical Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Health Sciences, Medical Statistics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline
• Basic knowledge and experience in research studies, with a willingness to receive on-the-job training
• Familiarity with NGS technology and its data formats is preferred
• Proficiency in coding, data-wrangling skills such as extracting information from VCF files and manipulating data structures is desirable
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong teamwork and collaboration mindset
• Experience in genome research is a plus
• Knowledge or experience in the analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing, and long-read sequencing data is a plus

Your new role

• Responsible for planning and daily operations of the medical laboratory
• Perform various medical testing procedures (e.g., haematology, biochemistry, immunology, urinalysis), primarily using flow cytometry
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments (including flow cytometers, haematology analysers, centrifuges, microscopes, etc.)
