The QC & Laboratory Manager is responsible for ensuring the product safety, quality, and compliance of food products through effective management of the Quality Control laboratory. This role involves developing and implementing quality control systems, supervising laboratory activities, and driving continuous improvement in testing protocols and product release processes.

In this role, you will be based at Tampoi, looking over the QC and Laboratory Division in FSQ Department at both Tampoi and Pasir Gudang sites.

Reporting to : Food Safety & Quality Manager

Developing and Implementing Quality Control Systems

• Develop, implement, and maintain quality control (including In Process Quality Control - IPQC) procedures, protocols and standards in compliance with food safety and quality requirements / regulations.
• Ensuring lab participation in periodic proficiency testing program.
• Ensuring method validation is carried out and SPC is utilized.
• This includes overseeing chemical and physical testing and releasing of raw and primary packaging materials, in-process samples, and finished goods, while upholding food safety & quality standards such as GMP, HACCP, FSSC 22000.

Supervising Laboratory Operations:

• Ensure accurate and timely analysis and releasing of raw and primary packaging materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
• Ensure lab instruments are calibrated, maintained and adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
• Overseeing sample collection, product quality testing, and documentation.
• Ensuring the laboratory operates efficiently and effectively.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all quality control activities, including test results, audits, and corrective actions, ensuring full traceability of products.

Ensuring Product Quality and Safety:

• Track quality metrics and prepare reports, presentations, operational documents, and other communications containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content related to Quality Control activities and arrive at sound conclusions.
• Support in non-conformities and deviations investigation and implement corrective actions.
• Support internal and external audits.

Driving Continuous Improvement

• Identifying areas for improvement in testing protocols and product release processes.
• Promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the organization.

Team Leadership and People Management:

• Lead daily laboratory operations and supervise a team of QC Personnel.
• Providing training and development opportunities for team members.
• Fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

• Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology, or related disciplines.
• 5 to 8 years of QC or laboratory experience in food manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong understanding of quality control tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), laboratory management and ISO 17025.
• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods.
• Proficient in analytical techniques, food microbiology, and quality systems. Learn and effectively utilized specialized knowledge to improve Quality Control and Laboratory Standard at site.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication with cross functional teams.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

• Oversee the overall functioning of the Cath Lab, including patient flow, scheduling, and coordination with cardiologists, radiologists, and anesthesiologists.
• Ensure readiness and availability of equipment, medications, and emergency supplies.
• Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering and relevant departments for equipment maintenance and calibration.

Nursing Care & Clinical Oversight

• Supervise and guide Cath Lab nurses and allied staff in the delivery of patient care.
• Ensure adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and nursing best practices.
• Assist during high-risk procedures and emergencies as needed.
• Monitor patient outcomes and ensure appropriate post-procedural care.

Leadership & Staff Development

• Lead and support a team of Cath Lab nurses through effective delegation, mentorship, and training.
• Develop duty rosters, manage leaves, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
• Conduct performance appraisals and facilitate continuous professional development.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Monitor adherence to hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and MOH/MQA/JCI standards.
• Participate in audits, incident reviews, and risk management processes.
• Drive quality improvement initiatives specific to Cath Lab services.

Patient & Family Communication

• Communicate effectively with patients and families to explain procedures, risks, and post-care instructions.
• Address patient concerns or complaints in a professional and empathetic manner.

Administrative Duties

• Prepare and monitor budgets for Cath Lab nursing operations.
• Manage inventory of consumables, pharmaceuticals, and critical supplies.
• Compile monthly reports and KPIs for Nursing Management and Hospital Leadership.

Job Requirements:

• Qualification:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Post Basic in Cardiothoracic/Critical Care/ICU or equivalent is an advantage)
• Registered Nurse with the Malaysian Nursing Board
• Experience:
• Minimum 7 years of nursing experience with at least 3 years in a Cath Lab or Interventional Cardiology Unit
• Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
• Skills & Competencies:
• Strong clinical knowledge in interventional cardiology procedures (e.g. angioplasty, pacemaker insertion)
• Leadership, team management, and conflict resolution skills
• Proficient in emergency response and ACLS-certified
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiar with electronic medical records and nursing documentation systems

Your key responsibilities:

• Implement the organization’s strategy by managing activities in order to solve problems; improve or generate new operational or equipment systems; and install and commission new or replacement processes.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of a group of executives, engineers and technicians, whose activities may include define detailed maintenance methodology, calibration activities; setting-up laboratory test equipment; SAP PM data; management laboratory equipment and common system to minimize laboratory downtime and interruptions.
• Lead complex, controversial, or significant projects; evaluate findings; and prepare detailed reports with recommendations and conclusions, to achieve the organization goals and objectives. Estimate the costs, resources, and time required to implement the organization’s annual goals and monitor the performance of projects to ensure targets are met.
• Select and manage ongoing relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure the organization receives satisfactory standards of service. Hold the authority in approval of Test Report, IMS document, Quality Reports (CAPA, NCIR), Document Template,Validation Plan and Report, IMTE RA report, obsolete test equipment and jigs.
• Have the authority and resources to implement, maintain and improve the management system, identify deviations from the management system or from the procedures for performing laboratory activities, initiate actions to prevent or minimize deviations, report to laboratory management on the performance of the management system and any need for improvement, and ensure the effectiveness of laboratory activities. Ensure laboratory operation and projects are compliance to specification and relevant standard regulations, as well as ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 13485 and FDA quality system requirements.
  
  

• Bachelor Degree in technical with hands-on experience managing day-to-day lab test equipment, calibration, maintenance, and validation.
• Providing technical guidance on lab instruments, methods, and procedures in physical testing and supervising lab technicians or support staff. Managing service contracts, negotiating with suppliers, or services provider. Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance knowledge. Experience with ISO 13485, ISO 17025, GLP, GMP, or CLIA standards will be desired.
• Experience in introducing and developing the integration of new technology into lab processes to increase productivity, cost effectiveness, quality of work and enhance the capability of the team
