Summary:

Under light supervision, the lab assistant will be responsible for updating product registration into LIMS and supporting daily laboratory operations by accurately sorting samples, handling lab equipment, and ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of instruments. This role is essential for maintaining the quality and precision of laboratory tests, ensuring proper handling and storage of retain samples in compliance with quality and regulatory standards. The lab assistant will support quality control by ensuring the cleanliness of the lab in an aseptic and good condition for conducting sample testing. They will communicate data to the Senior Microbiologist or Lab Executive in a timely manner.

Summary of Major Duties:

  1. Perform sample preparation for ingredients, in-process, flushing, or finished products, including maintaining and updating the LIMS system.
  2. Assist Microbiologists in preparing apparatus, media, reagents, and controls to comply with Hershey GLP and ISO17025 standards.
  3. Assist Microbiologists in daily FG sample sorting, managing consumable inventories, and conducting proper handling and storage of FG retain samples daily.
  4. Assist in maintaining housekeeping, following GLP, and adhering to safety procedures in the lab.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Food Technology, Chemical-related studies, or a related field. Fresh graduates or candidates with 1-2 years of relevant professional experience are acceptable.
  2. SPM/STPM with at least 3 years of working experience in a laboratory environment will also be considered favorably.

Lab Assistant - Your future position

As the Lab Assistant , you will play a key role in supporting our Flavour Icon review program through flavour screening, evaluation, and food application. In this position, you will collaborate with R&D teams on exciting food applications across various categories, including Dairy, Beverage, Bakery, Confectionery, Savoury, and Snacks. You'll be based in Kelana Jaya while reporting to the Commercial Manager .

Responsibilities include:
  • Support the Flavour Icon review program, including flavour screening, evaluation, and food application.
  • Manage flavour sampling requests, oversee stock replenishment, and update the LCMS system while implementing 5S practices in the sampling lab.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams on food applications across various categories, including Dairy, Beverage, Bakery, Confectionery, Savoury, and Snacks.
  • Assist the Food Technology team with compounding tasks as required.
  • Manage lab instrumentation, equipment, consumables, and ingredients in the sweet and savoury application labs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Technical Manager and/or Senior Food Technicians.

Job Description

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the ongoing project “Unraveled the mechanism of selective targeting mutant KRAS driven pancreatic cancer” on time. The RA’s principal role will be to work with mentor to complete the manuscript for publication.

Main duties and responsibilities

The Research Assistant will liaise with the senior lab members of the lab with following things:

  1. Help to do the experiments to complete the project and write the manuscript;
  2. Help in general lab management;
  3. Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  4. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
Qualifications
  1. Have a first degree with good results or holds a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Life Science
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail;
  3. have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. SPSS, MS office, PowerPoint;
  4. have experiences in research
