Introduction

At CHIS, the role of the Assistant Teacher Primary is mainly to be a class assistant who supports student

learning in the classroom, working closely with the Lead Teacher and Co-Teacher. The Assistant Teacher

may be assigned to a particular class or to a year group and work with multiple classes. In addition to

supporting student learning, the Assistant Teacher plays an important role in helping to care for the

wellbeing and safety of students, either in the class or when supervising on the playground, or in the

cafeteria.

As a learning organisation, professional growth is very important at CHIS. All staff take part in regular

collaborative meetings and over time, staff are supported to systematically develop their professional skills

● Care for the wellbeing and safety of students

● Support student learning in the classroom

● Support the planning, organisation and delivery of appropriate learning in line with the school vision

to promote the ‘Joy of Learning’ and to guide and encourage students to fulfil their potential

● Prepare classrooms and learning spaces for class activities

● Utilise a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Support planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities that facilitate engaging experiences

and rigorous learning

● Support and communicate clear objectives and success criteria for all learning activities

● Identify and select different resources and methods to meet student’s varying needs.

● Monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment

● Support lead teacher in assigning and assessing class work, homework, tests, and assignments

● Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students

● Prepare required reports on students and activities

● Contribute to the development of schemes of work in collaboration with teachers
