Senior Pricing Actuarial Analyst for the Underwriting Department

which is a niche career in the reinsurance market, your role will be: JOB DESCRIPTION Assist the underwriter on new product pricing for General Insurance portfolio in a reinsurance capacity Assist the underwriter in pricing reviews for treaty and facultative contracts (non standard and onerous contracts). Develop new pricing tools. Review the existing pricing tool. Conduct pricing for ad-hoc quotations received from intermediaries or clients. Review suitability of pricing and conduct profitability analysis. Product Management Prepare dashboards and portfolios analyses for the underwriters and occasionally the Management Committee. Understand the basic terminologies in an insurance and reinsurance contract. Understand the features of reinsurance treaties. Understand the fundamentals and features of the class of businesses underwritten MFRS 17 (ad hoc) Assist in the data preparation of pricing-related information such as estimated premium income and pricing loss ratios for the required input template of MFRS 17 software JOB REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, and/or professional qualification in actuarial 3 YEARS

About the Role

This position leads the efforts to deliver insurance products to consumers in today’s digital landscape. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing the right propositions and go-to-market strategies, including commercial proposals and negotiations for partnerships with various digital platforms. The candidate will also oversee the management of the digital insurance product portfolio and continuously develop the product roadmap for each partner. He/she will lead the team in researching and developing products, including defining product features, benefits, pricing, underwriting guidelines, and claims rules. Additionally, the candidate will work closely with the channel head to drive channel strategy and manage the channel’s P&L.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate partner potential during pre-deal discussions and provide senior management with an assessment of customer and market size, customer profiling, proposition strategy, revenue potential, and other commercial factors.
• Collaborate with the Partnership team to lead the product strategy for preparing Request for Proposal (RFP) or Request for Information (RFI) for potential partners.
• Post-deal, work with partners to develop and optimize the product portfolio , regularly reviewing product performance metrics, including claims ratio, product penetration, and take-up rate.
• Develop go-to-market strategy with partners, including product portfolio and roadmap, detailed business plans, and the required operational structure and requirements.
• Lead the regular reviews of product performance , including sales target achievements, claims ratio, product penetration, and take-up rate. Lead the planning process for annual sales plans and product development roadmaps.
• Own the Digital Business product portfolio , ensuring viability and continue meet company’s direction, as well as in search of new opportunities to further improve. Ensure full compliance with regulatory guidelines too.
• Lead the development of insurance products , overseeing the product specifications design, development, and testing process from initial requirement gathering, to consumer research, benefit testing, pricing development, risk assessment, and system implementation through to rollout. Managing internal stakeholders and regulators for necessary product approvals.
• Lead the pricing and re-pricing for the insurance products, including prepare necessary documents for submission to Bank Negara Malaysia, Product Development Committee, Group Office, etc.
• Oversee the monitoring and continuous optimization of the Digital Business product portfolio post-launch, including regular updates to management on performance versus target, underwriting rule revisions, claims rule updates, pricing adjustments, and product iterations such as withdrawal and replacement.
• Collaborate with the Analytics team to derive insights for improving product performance and customer experience, while optimizing Customer Lifetime Value through targeted product offerings.
• Work closely with the Marketing teams to craft promotions and campaigns that drive sales and improve overall product performance.
• Support the channel head on the annual strategy planning and budgeting process for Digital Business channel, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and facilitating cross-functional inputs as well as liaising with finance and actuarial colleagues for discussions and submissions.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years working experience in the insurance industry especially in the areas of Product Development and/or GI Actuarial Pricing, as well as strong collaborations with distribution channels or distribution partners.
• More than 5 years of leadership experience leading a small / mid-size expert team of product development and pricing team
• Minimum Degree holder, preferably in Actuarial Science.
• Deep understanding of local insurance regulatory environment with regards to general insurance products, particularly for personal lines
• Preferably experience in the digital insurance space, be it B2B2C or D2C.
• Strong analytical skills a must
• Reasonably understanding in insurance database, with hands-on working experience on statistical tools, such as SAS, SQL, R, Python, VBA, etc.
• Results oriented; Identify core of problems, what needs to be done and work with the teams to get products launched and achieve business results.
• Strong conceptual thinking combined with excellent problem-solving capabilities and an innovative mindset
• Ability to build relationships in an international environment with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders at different levels of the organization
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate (both oral and written) components of the product development process to stakeholders and external audiences
• Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, leading operations organizations, including coaching and performance management.

Insurance Operations Analyst (SME)

is a senior-level role, responsible for leveraging expertise in insurance underwriting and/or claims processing to provide specialized support and guidance to the team. This position requires a deep understanding of insurance operations and strong problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in insurance underwriting and/or claims processing, providing guidance and support to junior associates and colleagues.

Analyze complex issues and provide resolutions based on a thorough understanding of insurance products, underwriting guidelines, and/or claims management.

Lead process improvement initiatives, identify operational inefficiencies, and implement solutions to enhance productivity and accuracy.

Support the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for Insurance Operations processing to ensure compliance and best practices.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth execution across different regions.

Provide training and mentorship to junior staff and new team members, fostering knowledge sharing and skills development.

Ensure the timely and accurate processing of policies, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, adhering to service level agreements.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including Underwriters, claims adjusters, clients, and brokers, to address complex queries and provide operational support.

Manage escalated issues and offer solutions to ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with internal guidelines.

Review and validate customer proposals, applications, and transactions, ensuring adherence to insurance policies and regulations.

Support in the preparation of regular reports, performance analytics, and presentations to senior management.

Job Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, or equivalent in any field.

2–4 years of experience as a Subject Matter Expert in insurance underwriting, claims processing, or related fields.

Strong expertise in insurance underwriting, claims processing, and/or insurance products.

Proficiency in written and spoken English; fluency in Cantonese is a must for roles supporting the Cantonese-speaking regions.

Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex issues and provide actionable solutions.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze and track average selling prices (ASP) across product lines, customers, and regions.
• Assess the impact of price increases or decreases and identify contributing factors.
• Collaborate with product line managers and sales teams to validate price changes and ensure accuracy.
• Monitor the PowerBI pricing dashboard for insights on pricing trends and performance.
• Maintain and enhance the PowerBI pricing dashboard for insights on pricing trends and performance and ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Develop AI-driven models or statistical analyses to optimize pricing strategies.
• Work with IT to address recurring data errors and ensure dashboard accuracy.
• Provide detailed pricing analysis and reporting to support business decisions.
• Support the sales finance team in driving the company’s pricing initiative by providing actionable insights.
• Present findings and recommendations to finance and business unit leadership.
  
  

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Data Analytics, AI, or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pricing Analyst, Financial Analyst or similar role.
• Strong analytical skills with experience in pricing analysis or financial analysis.
• Proficiency in PowerBI or similar data visualization tools is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of and experience with ERP systems, financial reporting and analysis.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience with Oracle and Hyperion is a plus.

Acts under direct supervision, performing actuarial duties in order to provide highly accurate data and analyses for use by more senior actuaries in relation to reserving, reporting, quantitative risk management or the pricing of business.

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities

• Provide basic actuarial services under direct supervision to fulfill routine business requirements and to solve problems with a limited level of complexity diversity.
• Perform statistical analyses, model, monitor and analyze data and develop models or programs for model building and analyses; interpret results of models and analyses.
• Perform more complex analyses as assigned.
• Compile and categorize increasingly complex data and documents, and verify factors and assumptions used in computations.
• Assist in the development of risk based capital models as well as parameterization and allocation activities to support actuarial services.
• Participate in the evaluation and review of new proposed processes and systems.
• Demonstrate increasing knowledge of relevant actuarial disciplines and procedures, and apply this knowledge to achieve business objectives.
• Work with actuarial colleagues to continue to develop understanding of company operations, business objectives and actuarial methodologies.
• Assist in training less experienced actuarial personnel.
• Demonstrate consistent progress towards local actuarial qualification.

• Leverage actuarial skills and knowledge to provide specialist advice to address specific technical queries from internal clients in order to provide first class customer service.
• Demonstrate further increasing knowledge of relevant actuarial disciplines and procedures, and apply this knowledge to achieve business objectives and deliver first class customer service.
• Continue to advance in pursuit of local actuarial qualification and demonstrate consistent progress towards designation in order to maintain the talent pipeline for Actuarial.
• Train of less experienced actuarial staff.

Required

• Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Other, Sciences and 2 or more years of experience in related field

As a pricing analyst in Micron, you will be critical to the strategy and execution of our channel business. This role sits withing Micron’s CPG pricing organization. The CPG pricing team is responsible for setting and reviewing pricing across Micron’s consumer, business, and commercial channels. Your primary responsibility will be to support global channel pricing by aligning customers to current strategy with correct price points. In addition, you will help support our asp planning through the business cycle. Pricing strategy includes execution of various vehicles such as rebates, back-end discounts, and price list tools. Success is achieved by demonstrating product strategy, positioning, product pricing strategy with specific promotions to align to the business plan. Collaboration across sales, marketing, product marketing, quoting teams and finance is critical.

Responsibilities

• Develops, evaluates, and implements pricing strategies and models for asp business planning.
• Partner with cross functional teams to ensure alignment and success to business plans.
• Implement worldwide customer specific rebates, promotions, and pricing.
• Analyzes and reports on current market pricing, trends and share data.
• Projects impact of pricing changes, individual promotions, and rebate programs on revenue.
• Creates/administers pricing databases and coordinates implementation of pricing proposals across the organization.
• Ensures necessary pricing controls and monitors to enable and drive optimum pricing performance to meet business objectives.
• Support pricing managers with channel wide price points and initiatives
• Align Model N to correct rebates values and date period.

Qualifications

• 5 years and above of pricing experience with strong data skills preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or economics is preferred, with a master’s degree being a plus.
• Advanced Excel Skills –
  • Proficiency in using advanced Excel functions such as VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, and array formulas.
  • Pivot Tables: Expertise in creating and manipulating pivot tables for data analysis.
  • Macros and VBA: Experience in writing and debugging macros using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to automate repetitive tasks.
• Self-motivated with proven ability to work with clear direction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication (English) skills required.
• Willingness to work earlier in the day to overlap with US time zone.
• Consumer experience with instant rebates or promotional vehicles is desired.
• Experience with Model N, CPQ, and Salesforce is advantageous.
• Mind set to do what’s needed to support the customer and the business.
