Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Department has an opening for an experienced professional to lead Microsoft’s government affairs and public policy in Malaysia, reporting to the ASEAN CELA lead.
This senior position offers a unique opportunity to work with regulators, government stakeholders, industry peers and thought leaders on emerging complex technology policy. Responsibilities
- You will leverage external and internal partnerships to advance Microsoft’s public policy agenda, as well as establish an intelligence network to support our business objectives. You’ll also provide counsel to the business, engineering and other key internal stakeholders on public policy topics, and recommend ways to advance our policy and political agenda.
- You will represent Microsoft externally by participating in events, supporting executive engagement along the way. You’ll also advise on political and geopolitical landscape, provide strategic vision, and develop a communication framework or messaging.
- You’ll support Public Sector and other business opportunities, and build our reputation as a globally trusted technology provider. You will work closely with regulators and other key policy-making bodies as customers, assisting them on their journey deploying advanced technology, such as AI.
- You will act as an expert and provide direction on large, critical projects, resolving complex conflicts and ensuring team alignment. You’ll also collaborate with senior stakeholders and experts to understand and align on objectives, priorities, and resources.
- You’ll contribute to our global public policy work in areas such as AI; in particular where Malaysia’s regulations may influence policy decisions of other countries in the wider Global Majority and beyond.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Law, Public Admin, or related field AND 4+ years work experience in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or Government OR 6+ years work experience in Government Affairs, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or Government.
- 5+ years experience in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public policy priorities.
- Solid understanding of policy-making/regulatory processes in Malaysia, as well as grasp of key decision-makers and influencers, in particular in technology policy area.
- Self-starter with sense of ownership and accountability.
- Team player, proactively supporting other colleagues, contributing to their success, as well as welcoming their input into your swim lane in support of theirs (and your own) growth opportunities.

- Expertise in technology policy, in particular in regulations impacting digital technologies such as cloud, AI, digital platforms or datacenter infrastructure.

I. Regulatory Intelligence and Scientific Research

- Monitor and Analyse Regulatory Trends:
- Stay informed about the developments in food and nutrition regulations, public health policies, and industry standards across Asia. Provide timely insights and strategic analysis on key issues such as taxation on foods and beverages, front-of-pack nutrition labelling (FOPNL), product reformulation, marketing restrictions, and emerging nutrition guidelines.
- Policy Landscape Development:
- Develop and maintain FIA's technical resources such as position papers, regulatory landscape reports, technical guidance white paper and evidence banks to support science-based policy advocacy.
- Scientific Research and Evidence Building:
- Identify research gaps and coordinate scientific initiatives including literature reviews, impact assessments, and consumer perception studies. Work closely with academic institutions and technical consultants to generate robust, data-driven evidence that supports FIA's regulatory and policy priorities.

Role Responsibilities:
- Government Affairs Strategy:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive government affairs strategy to support CHAGEE's business objectives.
• Facilitate communication between the company and government entities, ensuring transparency and trust.
- Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure that the company complies with all relevant local, regional, and national laws and regulations.
• Monitor changes in legislation and advise senior management on potential impacts and necessary actions.
- Advocacy:
• Advocate for the company's interests with government agencies and regulatory bodies.
• Represent CHAGEE in discussions and negotiations with government officials and industry associations.
- Crisis Management:
• Provide strategic advice and support during crises or regulatory challenges.
• Develop and implement crisis management plans in coordination with other departments.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
• Engage with external stakeholders, including industry groups, trade associations, and community organizations, to advance the company's objectives.
- Policy Analysis and Reporting:
• Analyze and interpret government policies and regulations that affect the business.
• Prepare detailed reports and briefings for senior management on relevant government initiatives and regulatory changes.
- Event Coordination:
• Organize and participate in events, meetings, and conferences with government officials and stakeholders.
• Represent the company at public and private sector events to strengthen government relations.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams:
• Work closely with legal, compliance, operations, and other departments to ensure that government relations efforts are aligned with business needs.
• Provide guidance and support to internal teams on regulatory issues and government interactions.
Role Requirements:
Extensive experience in government relations, preferably within the F&B or retail industry.
Strong understanding of the political and regulatory landscape.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with government officials and regulatory bodies.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex regulatory information.
Experience in crisis management and strategic planning.
High degree of professionalism and ethical standards.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
