Job Description

As an Associate in our Malaysia-based Investment Banking team, you will play a key role in business origination and execution across various investment banking products, including M&A, equity, and debt capital markets. Your responsibilities will include participating in the full cycle of transactional execution, such as preparing marketing pitches, reviewing financial analyses, and preparing internal and client presentations. You will lead aspects of execution by working with analysts and other associates, and assist senior bankers. The ideal candidate will possess strong functional skills in investment banking and demonstrate the ability to generate and execute transactions independently. Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with junior and senior bankers to originate, structure, and execute financing and advisory transactions across products such as M&A, IPOs, bonds, loans, and structured products.
  • Develop impactful content for marketing and execution materials.
  • Create financial models and conduct detailed valuation analyses for pitches and projects.
  • Engage with senior team members and client management to execute transactions and manage associated risks.
  • Guide and review the analytical work of junior bankers to advance marketing and execution processes.
  • Coordinate with internal and external parties involved in transactions, such as lawyers, accountants, and counterparties.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior bankers.
  • Lead client negotiations, Q&A sessions, and management interviews.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics, or a related field from a top-tier institution.
  • At least 3 years of experience in an investment banking front office role.

Global Investment Banking - Malaysia Coverage Team, Associate Job Description

As an Associate in our Malaysia based Investment Banking team, you will be a key player in our business origination and execution across investment banking products from M&A to equity and debt capital markets. You will participate in the "full cycle" of transactional execution including preparing marketing pitches, reviewing and formulating financial analysis, preparing and presenting internal committee memoranda and client presentations. You will play a leadership role in implementing the execution function including working with analysts and other associates, as well as assisting more senior bankers. You will have strong function skills in the major areas of investment banking and will demonstrate the ability to become a senior officer who is capable of generating and executing his/her own transactions. Most importantly, the candidate should be highly enthusiastic about J.P. Morgan's mission and be driven and committed to its success. You will join the global Associate class in the investment banking team in Malaysia, working with a broader team of Analysts and Associates in the region, you will be provided opportunities to be involved real-time in transactions that may include regional travel.

Job Responsibilities: Working with junior and senior bankers in originating, structuring and executing financing and advisory transactions across various products including M&As, IPOs, bonds, loans and structured products Developing content in marketing/execution materials for maximum client impact Creating financial models and detailed valuation analysis for pitches / projects Interacting with senior team members and client management teams to execute transactions and identifying and managing all risks in a given deal Guiding, reviewing and coordinating the analytical work of junior bankers to move marketing / execution processes forward. Liaising with internal and external parties on transactions (e.g. lawyers, accountants, counterparties) Providing leadership and mentorship in guiding and training junior bankers. Leading client negotiations, Q&A processes and management interviews

  • Assist Regional Head IB in the planning, development and innovation of strategies and business plans to drive growth in corporate clients’ wallet share, customer portfolio, and cross-selling of CIMB Group products.
  • Assist Regional Head IB to oversee the rollout and implementation of regional investment banking business initiatives.
  • Assist Regional Head IB to identify key objectives, financial and other performance measures for IB Country Heads and Product Heads.
  • Use data analytics to keep abreast of the market landscape and key industries highlights in order to envision and create cross-regional and cross-sector business strategies and capitalise on these opportunities.
  • Assist CEO of CIMB IB to keep the Board informed of all significant financial and other relevant matters pertaining to Private Banking Investment Banking (PBIB) and Equities businesses.
  • Assist CEO of CIMB IB to enhance the profile of Investment Banking via award submissions and media releases.
  • Together with IB BPA, ensure that the annual budget of business units reporting to the office of the CEO of CIMB Investment Bank, domestic and regional, and the consolidated budget are prepared and aligned to the CIMBG financial objectives.
  • Together with IB BPA, ensure that the performance of the business units are tracked, analysed and reported at prescribed intervals to senior management and/or management committees.
  • Together with BPA, where relevant, attend to queries and requests by regulators on a timely manner.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Professional Qualification in the relevant discipline (Accounting/Finance/Business/Economics/Financial Engineering).
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in IB, finance and/or accounting-related fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of Wholesale Banking business including Investment Banking business.
  • High level of business acumen.
  • Good writing and presentation skills.
