Position Description
The Research Analyst provides stock coverage on assigned clients in Malaysia. Reporting to the Head of Research, the Research Analyst provides recommendations based on thorough analysis and company insights. He/she must be able to present and market their ideas effectively internally, to institutional sales and sales traders, and externally to clients. Typically he/she should cover 8 – 12 Companies, determined by the Head of Research.

- Product
- Ensure the team has adequate financial models & valuation databases for all stocks under primary coverage. At a minimum these models should be robust, internally consistent and have the ability to perform sensitivity analysis on key earnings drivers.
- Contribution
- Support the writing of investment product, including company, sector and thematic reports.
- Respond to market news, earnings releases, corporate developments and other market-moving information when necessary and in a proactive manner.
- Client Contact
- Conduct bespoke work for clients, supporting the development of strong key client relationships.
- Develop working relationships with corporates, clients and government/industry organisations.

Requirements
- Bachelor degree or above in Business related discipline, preferably with Finance and/or Accounting major.
- 8-10 years’ experience as a research analyst or related industry. A similar level of sector specific experience would be considered.
- Technical knowledge of the brokerage industry.
- Strong Excel/ spreadsheet skills and a good understanding of financial modelling.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- High sense of commercial awareness.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal sensitivity.
- Excellent communication, relationship and management skills to both internal and external clients.

The Syndicated Healthcare team in KL provides crucial support to the Global Syndicated Healthcare team (across the US, UK, Asia-Pacific, Japan and Middle East/Northern Africa), with regular detailed reports on their respective therapy areas.

Academic Qualifications

The Syndicated Healthcare team in KL provides crucial support to the Global Syndicated Healthcare team (across the US, UK, Asia-Pacific, Japan and Middle East/Northern Africa), with regular detailed reports on their respective therapy areas.
Additional responsibilities of the role include desk research, interpretation of data, title and executive summary writing. Supervision of junior team members, and assistance with managing team resources, may also become part of the responsibilities at a later stage.
Analysis & Presentation Writing
- Preparation of slide decks and reports, presentation follow-up based on client needs and data runs (queries) required for the client query service using Desktop/Survey Reporter, Excel, PowerPoint and any other applicable software
- Interpretation of data, coming up with new value-added analyses and developing therapy area expertise
- Co-management of resource allocation within the Emerging Research team, with input and support from management
- Actively contribute to maintaining and improving the Syndicated Emerging Research Studies
- Process data queries efficiently and accurately to provide good client service
- Support the global teams
- Deliver expected results on time and to a high quality
Academic Qualifications
- Graduates/degreee holders in biological science, business, statistic fields or social science
- Scientific, medical or pharmaceutical background is not necessary, but can be beneficial to this role
- Previous market research exposure and experience desired
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Strong analytical skills and great attention to detail are required
- Knowledge of or experience in the market research industry, knowledge of the pharmaceutical market in general, advanced analytic skills and prior use of analytical software packages are seen as an advantage
- Passion for learning more about healthcare in general and new trends in healthcare in particular
- Prioritises and prepares in advance, delivers work on time using available resources
- Previous experience as a supervisor or mentor of junior staff is seen as an advantage
- Works collaboratively with the internal teams in London, New York, China, South Korea, Australia, India, Japan and KL, and promotes team work.
- Is able to effectively communicate ideas and information to individuals and groups when required
- Effectively presents ideas and information at team meetings
- Express ideas effectively in all correspondence, emails and reports
- Obtains clarification when necessary and is attentive during meetings

Job DescriptionPurpose of role:
A Research Analyst is responsible for identifying, collecting, and managing large sets of data to support the research needs of the business in developing and maintaining research products. They play a critical role in the data lifecycle by ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient data gathering from various sources, including paid sources, online platforms, and internal databases. This position requires proficiency in data management tools and a strong understanding of data integrity and quality assurance practices. Plus, troubleshooting, managing risks, and collaborating with stakeholders. They are responsible for reviewing the data acquisition strategies and mentoring junior researchers.
Additionally, the Research Analyst develops strong and productive working relationships with key stakeholders within the Intelligence & Advisory (I&A) division, particularly in I&A Operations, as well as with external vendors and the technology community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to designing and implementing new and innovative research techniques and methodologies, including online research, that best address the research requirement.
- Gather and cleanse data from various sources to ensure high quality and accuracy, while validating incoming data to meet established standards and criteria.
- Identify and resolve data integrity issues and maintain thorough documentation of data sources, extraction processes, and flow diagrams.
- Understand sampling methods to drive hypotheses and empower stakeholders to make well-informed decisions without exhaustively analyzing all populations of interest.
- Utilize ETL-based tools for data acquisition, processing, and ingestion.
- Schedule and manage data acquisition to ensure timely data availability.
- Utilize web scraping tools for automated data collection from external sources.
- Leverage AI tools to be more efficient in data acquisition.
- Troubleshoot and correct data inconsistencies and discrepancies.
- Independently and effectively manage issue escalations, adopting appropriate escalation pathways.
- Anticipation, early detection, prevention, and management of risks and issues impacting deliverables and the research process.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings to gather data requirements and understand project objectives.
- Conduct frequent reviews of data acquisition methodology to enhance process efficiency and reliability.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in data acquisition and analysis.
- Train and mentor junior researchers on best data acquisition and management practices.
Ethics & Transparency:
- Compliance with global regulations (like GDPR) to protect consumer data.
- Clear communication of research methods and processes ensures clients understand how data was collected and analyzed.
- Take ownership of assigned project tasks and proactively engage with all stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
- Understanding and commitment to Research & Analytics goals, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in data acquisition, sourcing, or related roles.
- Familiar with ETL tools and techniques.
- Familiar with AI tools and their capabilities.
- Strong understanding of database management and metadata.
- Familiarity with APIs and web scraping tools for data collection.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL & Python.
- Knowledge of data privacy and security principles.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Knowledge of cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) is advantageous.
- Experience and knowledge in relevant technology are preferred.
