POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the Fire Services Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of fire protection and life safety systems within our hyperscale data centres.
This role ensures that all fire systems are compliant with relevant regulations, operate efficiently, and can provide optimal protection in the event of an emergency.
The Fire Services Engineer will collaborate with various teams to integrate fire safety into the overall building management strategy and ensure a safe environment for both personnel and equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fire Protection System Management:
- Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of fire protection systems, including sprinklers, fire alarms, suppression systems, and emergency lighting.
- Ensure all fire systems are fully operational and compliant with local, national, and international fire safety standards and regulations.
- Regularly inspect and test fire protection systems to ensure they are in proper working order and meet all safety requirements.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure that all fire protection measures comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for all fire safety systems and procedures, ensuring readiness for audits and inspections.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop fire safety plans, including evacuation procedures and emergency response protocols.
Maintenance and Testing:
- Plan and execute regular maintenance and testing schedules for all fire systems, coordinating with external contractors as necessary.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with fire protection systems promptly to minimise downtime and ensure continuous safety.
- Monitor and review fire system performance, recommending upgrades or improvements where necessary.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with the Building Services Manager, operations teams, and external contractors to ensure seamless integration of fire safety systems with other building services.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on fire safety practices and emergency procedures.
- Participate in the planning and execution of fire drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
Incident Management:
- Respond to fire alarms and other emergency situations, providing technical expertise to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Investigate fire incidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Job Summary
The Emergency Response Personnel is responsible for ensuring preparedness, coordination, and effective response to all types of emergencies within the facility — including fire, chemical spills, power failures, accidents, and natural disasters. The role supports the organization's Emergency Response Plan (ERP), ensures compliance with JKR safety requirements, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994, and Fire Services Act 1988, and promotes a culture of safety and readiness among all site personnel.
Job Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Fire Safety Plan, and Evacuation Procedures in compliance with statutory and client (JKR) requirements.
- Serve as first responder during any emergency, including fire, medical, chemical, electrical, or environmental incidents.
- Conduct emergency drills and simulations (fire drills, evacuation, spill containment, rescue exercises) to ensure personnel readiness.
- Coordinate with the Safety and Health Officer (SHO), Facility Manager, local fire department (BOMBA), and other relevant authorities during emergency situations.
- Operate and maintain emergency response equipment such as fire extinguishers, hydrants, SCBA, AEDs, spill kits, and first aid supplies.
- Perform regular inspections and testing of firefighting systems, alarms, sprinklers, and emergency lighting.
- Assist in investigating incidents and preparing Incident & Root Cause Reports for submission to authorities and clients.
- Maintain updated emergency contact lists, site plans, and muster point signage.
- Provide training and awareness sessions for staff on emergency response procedures and safe behavior during crises.
- Support the development of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and contribute to overall site safety improvement programs.
Job Requirements
Certification:
Must have completed recognized emergency response or safety training such as:
Basic Fire Fighting (BFF)
- First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
- Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Awareness / Handling (advantageous)
- Emergency Response Team (ERT) Training certified by recognized institutions (e.g., NIOSH, BOMBA, or DOSH-approved centers).
- Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Safety, Fire Safety, Emergency Management, or related technical field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in emergency response, safety operations, or facility management environment.
- Experience in government or JKR-managed facilities is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of OSHA 1994, FMA 1967, Fire Services Act 1988, and Emergency Response Procedures.
- Competent in firefighting techniques, rescue procedures, and first aid administration.
- Ability to respond quickly, remain calm under pressure, and make sound decisions during emergencies.
- Good leadership and teamwork skills to coordinate ERT members and communicate with multiple stakeholders.
- Skilled in preparing emergency reports, maintaining records, and conducting post-incident reviews.
