We want to transform the world of software operations by enabling true model-driven operations via next-generation infrastructure-as-code. This will allow companies to run very efficient bare-metal operations for high-performance computing, private cloud, data lakes, AI/ML, and analytics. We need to invent some new technology, and we need to build some new products; we are therefore looking for someone who can lead and inspire a regional software engineering team to fulfill this initiative.

The Solutions Engineering team works in close collaboration with our managed infrastructure operations team, which runs many private OpenStack clouds and Kubernetes clusters for customers around the world. This enables us to improve our infra-as-code products based on our own real experience, mirroring that of our users and customers. We work in Python, creating open-source automation capabilities that simplify operations for anybody, anywhere, who is building on Ubuntu.

Most of the team's work involves pure Python software development focused on enabling true DevOps workflows. We strive for high quality in both design, documentation, tests, and performance as we enhance operations code packages and Ubuntu itself in order to ensure our platform is the easiest, most robust, and best performing for driving your infrastructure.

As an Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility is to the people you lead and support: ensuring that they are growing as engineers, doing valuable work, and finding satisfaction in their career at Canonical. We need someone who can display technical leadership by leveraging a solid background in software development so that they're able to challenge and grow their team members. You will have the opportunity to influence the culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with your team on direction and execution.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations
• Hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development
• Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing code yourself
• Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
• Set and manage expectations with other engineering and operations teams
• Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers
• Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
• Help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
• Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
• Be an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organisation
• Travel globally up to 10% of time for internal and external events

You can expect your days to be pretty varied at Teleport. Multitasking is normal, and sometimes, your skills or natural talents will be leveraged to support other business priorities. That said, the bulk of your working hours should involve you having to:

• Building and maintaining distributed teams
• Coaching, managing, and growing team members
• Advocating for engineering best practices and an iterative agile approach
• Ensuring quality in processes and products
• Designing, implementing, and managing software development processes and tools
• Collaborating with the Product team to define software solutions
• Defining operational metrics and working with the Operations team to ensure smooth software performance in production
• Promoting and maintaining CI/CD practices
• Engaging with third-party vendors for development resources
• Evolving the tech stack with modern technologies (e.g., microservices, serverless, node.js, python, angular, containers, NoSQL, dynamic caching)
• Recommending commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions when appropriate
• Identifying opportunities and risks related to innovation, competitive services, and technical challenges

• Candidates must possess an Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma or Professional Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, Science & Technology or equivalent.

Job Description:

• Lead the development, updating, and continuous improvement of the company's equipment system documentation, as well as the associated management systems and procedures.

• Manage and maintain accurate and comprehensive equipment records and data.

OVERVIEW

• Responsible for the Plant and Process department breakdown maintenance, preventive maintenance, and improvement projects. The incumbent is to ensure reliability and effectiveness of all functions and operations activities of plant’s mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation engineering activities, including troubleshooting, modifications, repair and improvement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assessing process costs and overall equipment efficiency within plant.

• Review and ensure good operational effectiveness of existing processes and work practices related to management and maintenance of plant.
• Derive, monitor and control departmental budget and ensure department objectives are met.
• Manage the engineering department and ensure department objectives are met.
• Develop and manage maintenance management system that includes preventive and predictive maintenance, parts inventory control, control of maintenance cost, manpower control, etc.
• Work out the plans to achieve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and ensure downtime and/or rejection are minimal.
• Liaise with other departments/ plants for standardization or critical work execution.
• Ensure activities carried out by solely or jointly with other divisions observe good health and safety standards.

• Carry out routine walkabout and site inspection to ensure good housekeeping and identify potential breakdown or continuous improvement.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Mechatronic Engineering/ Control & Instrumentation or equivalent.

Work Experience:

• Minimum 6 years of working experience in engineering/ maintenance.

Technical and Professional Knowledge:

• Engineering Division's policies and procedures i.e. people, operations, and budgeting
• Regulatory and compliance procedures related to operations and Industrial standards (ISO requirements)
• Programmable Logic Control (PLC), SCADA, AutoCAD.
• Manufacturing technologies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Industry 4.0 (IOT/Automation)

Job Description

EcoVadis is currently seeking an Engineering Manager to join our growing product engineering team. The Engineering Manager is accountable for the good functioning and performance of the team, from both personal and collective views. The role will guide and provide structure to the team to meet challenging business goals and time frames.

The Engineering Manager is also accountable for the quality of what the team delivers, and must therefore introduce good practices as necessary, for various aspects of the job. You will collaborate with other engineering managers to ensure that development processes are optimal.

• Experience and Motivation for hiring, growing and guiding people

• Experience working in Agile environments

• Good knowledge of modern web application development (Azure, .NET & React is a plus)

• Self-driven and team player
