In response to increased concurrent projects for the design and delivery of our data centers, Oracle is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The role is a senior multi-disciplinary data center design lead with a mechanical background, charged with the direct interface between Oracle and our data center partners in the Mechanical, Controls, Plumbing and Fire functions. With extensive experience designing and delivering mission critical facilities and professional qualifications in mechanical engineering the role is responsible for all design decisions related to assigned data center projects: site selection, new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades and acquisition conversions.

+ Leads and oversees design and engineering initiatives within the data centre environment, directing all internal and external project team members involved in delivering data centre designs for Oracle

+ Collaborates with engineering teams from all disciplines and other partner teams nad key stakeholders across the organization
+ Leverages knowledge of Oracle processes, procedures, and industry standards to improve design management processes and effectively resolve complex, non-routine design challenges
+ Applies expert-level knowledge of safety practices by integrating safety considerations into the design process and ensuring team adherence to established safe working procedures
+ Contributes to mentoring junior team members and supports the identification and development of training programs for new team members as the team grows.
+ Continuously expands expertise through hands-on experience, vendor training, participation in industry groups, and shadowing colleagues; serves as a subject matter expert on multiple systems and provides training to team members and others across the organization.
+ Provides expert input for effective contract administration including generation and review of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation
+ Responsible for developing cross-functional standard operating procedures (SOPs) and producing clear, comprehensive technical documentation to support effective communication across teams
+ Facilitates the exchange of information between departments within the organization
+ Contributes to the development, review, and maintenance of best-in-class policies and procedures-incorporating input from stakeholders, participating in design and commissioning activities, and ensuring adherence to established standards across all documentation and processes.
**Requirements:**
+ Expert-level knowledge of data centre infrastructure systems, including cooling, controls, and critical power, with advanced skills in diagnostics and design development
+ Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex, cross-functional issues, exhibiting strong initiative and problem-solving skills
+ Proven track record of recommending and implementing system-level enhancements to proactively eliminate potential issues
+ Experience testing and evaluating the suitability of components and action plans for data centre deployments

+ Provide innovative and creative solutions to resolve thermal challenges and issues
+ Establish and improve thermal processes and guidelines.
+ Responsible for thermal test validation of IT equipments including server/storage/switch product.
+ Set-up thermal test environment and execute the thermal test including wind tunnel test and temperature test.
+ Work with other function team to resolve thermal relevant issues.
+ Document comprehensive thermal test plan and report.
**Knowledge/Skills/Competencies**
+ Minimum 6 years experience in thermal design/simulation/test validation for data centre IT equipment
+ Strong user of Flotherm as CFD analysis tool for performing steady state simulation analysis. Transient analysis is a plus
+ Expertise in various heat sinks, heat pipes, Vapor chamber design/selection as well as Air mover,
+ TIM selection, liquid cooling or other advanced cooling technology experience is a plus
+ Expertise and experience in various fan speed control methodologies and over-temperature protection mechanism
+ Familiar with thermal measurement technology and test tools such as temperature data logger, IR camera, wind tunnel, air speed meter, etc.
+ Familiar with Mechanical design tools such as Creo for 3D model checks, tolerance analysis methodology for heat sink retention design is a plus
+ Familiar with industry standard including NEBS, GR-63, ASHRAE, MSA,etc
+ Server/storage/switch product experience is preferred.
+ Familiar with fluid dynamic and heat transfer knowledge

The Mechanical Engineer is a seasoned subject matter expert, accountable for the design and construction of complex and mission critical data centers.
This role leads the definition of mechanical systems design requirements for multiple, simultaneous data center projects from inception through completion and will provide expertise to the relevant core and cross functional business teams.

+ Works across multiple teams to ensure design deliverables meet company strategic goals.
+ Conducts QA/QC of design and documentation, including but not limited to construction drawings and commissioning test scripts.
+ Works across multiple teams and contractors on mechanical infrastructure projects.
+ Provides engineering support for sales opportunities and customer projects.
+ Troubleshoots problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for problems affecting system performance and efficiency.
+ Works across multiple teams with local authorities having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
+ Participates in factory witness testing of new equipment.
+ Assists engineers and commissioning agents to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical and building systems.

**To thrive in this role, you need to have:**
+ Seasoned knowledge of mechanical equipment including Air Cooled Chillers, Pumps, Water Treatment Systems, HVAC equipment, Computer Room AC Units (CRACs), Operating Building Management and Industrial PLC Control Systems, Air handling equipment, Valves, Piping, Ductwork, Storm and sanitary drains, industrial and domestic water.
+ Seasoned competence and familiarity with energy calculations.
+ Advanced proficiency in fluid flow and heat transfer calculations including approach temperature, small temperature difference, sensible load, latent load, NPSH, pump and fan affinity laws, pressure loss, fan and pump heat, kW/Ton, EER, IPLV, and the like.
+ Seasoned ability to perform psychrometric calculations and develop system state points and processes including use of wet bulb temperature, dewpoint temperature, dry bulb temperature, and enthalpy.
+ Seasoned understanding of control methods and hardware including signal types, data communication protocols for Building Automation and Control networks, actuator types, failure modes, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and control tuning methods.
+ Seasoned knowledge of relevant building codes, standards and regulations including California Title 24, ASHRAE, ASME, Life Safety, IBC, NFPA and OSHA.
+ Strong team player with good interpersonal skills coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to prioritize work efficiently, with good team orientation.
