Data Center Operations designs, installs and maintains the world’s largest Computing Infrastructure. Our scope of work includes systems, repairing, dealing with issues, handling and tracking parts and assisting in Data Center maintenance. Amazon Data Centers are large-scale high-density centers where you will help change the face of Technology in the region.
Key job responsibilities
In this role as a Data Center Operations Technician, you will be responsible for the on-site management of hardware lifecycle of our IT infrastructure that includes:
You will troubleshoot technical issues on advanced hardware, ranging from servers, storage and networking devices so they operate on a 24/7 basis.
You will maintain a high level of system reliability and availability.
You will participate in projects to enhance operational efficiencies with opportunities to share experiences and knowledge with our global network of technical experts.
You will share knowledge and help train less technical staff on the best practices related to all service owner issues.
You will contribute towards building a great team by getting involved in the Amazon hiring process/candidate interviews.
You will work and meet SLAs against assigned trouble tickets via a directed workflow, be the first line touch point for hardware troubleshooting and technical issues.
You will perform on-call duties and will participate in Data Center operations, handling scheduled maintenance and change management activities that require monitoring of the data center infrastructure.
You will participate in team meetings for metric analysis and to discuss achieving daily/weekly goals.
You have the knowledge of the policies and procedures, including safety and security, within your department, and understand the appropriate application of such knowledge
You will contribute to documentation on technical issues through root cause analysis for operational issues that occur, and contribute to process improvement initiatives relevant to the data center environment.
More experienced technicians may assist in training less experienced members of the team.
A day in the life
You will support DC (Data Center) infrastructure equipment (e.g. racks, servers, networking devices, hardware components, cables, etc.),
You will follow the instructions ticket-based environment and work on systematic problem resolution and perform routine operation activities on hardware, or spare parts, including rack install, server break/fix, rack decom etc.
You will perform on-call duties and will participate in Data Center operations, handling scheduled maintenance and change management activities that require monitoring of the data center infrastructure.
Show a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
You will be involved with site management and maintain tidiness in operation areas
Your role involves covering 24x7 shift rotation

Basic Qualifications
5+ years of Server Hardware and network fiber hands-on experiences required.
Experience in Network troubleshooting, Optical Fiber Cabling, Switches and Routers.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Critical Services Manager, the Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring data centre facilities' efficient and reliable operation. This position is responsible for managing the duty team, overseeing equipment inspections, analysing system interfaces, and ensuring the accuracy of shift handovers. The Shift Manager also focuses on training, compliance with standard operating procedures, and effective incident management.
This is not a shift role, but occasionally out-of-hours response and coverage will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Ownership:
- Arrange and supervise the work of the entire shift team to ensure smooth operations.
Equipment and Data Review:
- Review facility equipment inspections conducted by the shift team and verify related operational data.
- Oversee on-site shift handover data, including a preliminary analysis of events, faults, equipment operation modes, capacity, redundancy, and alarm analysis to ensure accuracy.
Systems Analysis:
- Perform daily analysis of interface display and usage issues in BMS, BA, high-voltage monitoring, inspection PDA, and data centre management systems.
- Provide improvement suggestions for weak current and BMS systems.
Training and SOP Compliance:
- Regularly practice and train according to the plan formulated by the shift supervisor, starting with professional classification and equipment operation.
- Summarize and assess training results and verify the execution of SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and EOP (Emergency Operating Procedures).
Incident Management:
- Record and analyse abnormal duty reports and the handling of abnormal situations.
- Summarize reasons and solutions and generalize successful emergency handling experiences for broader application.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree or above in mechanical and electrical engineering, automation, refrigeration, or related fields.
- Hold valid high and low voltage operation certificates and air conditioning operation certificates.
- Over 3 years of experience as a data centre operations and maintenance technician.
- Familiarity with the daily maintenance of UPS, generators, chiller units, and other systems.
- In-depth knowledge of the configuration, distribution, and usage of power distribution systems, including high and low-voltage distribution systems, UPS, chillers, fire protection in the data centre.
- Possess fault diagnosis and emergency handling capabilities.
- Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.

Job Summary
Has a substantial understanding of the job while working on assignments that are moderately difficult requiring judgement in resolving issues or making recommendations. Focus is on moderately difficult tasks, using substantial understanding of standard operating procedure. Supports the overall team.
Responsibilities
Queue Management / Reporting
- Reviews work orders in the queue and works on moderately difficult requests by adhering to commitment times
- Supports cross-functional teams to collaborate on customer tickets
- Ensures any necessary reporting is complete and accurate; supports ad-hoc reporting requests
- Actively provides input and makes recommendations to processes
- Maintains detailed written records of all work activity
- Updates local asset databases and other systems
- Handles moderately difficult rack and stack customer equipment tickets
- Able to read moderately difficult installation spreadsheet plans and supports implementing installations accordingly
- Supports the installation of moderately difficult installs, which may include:
- overhead cable trays, cage mesh, cabinets, and cable management/support systems; circuits for fiber terminations; cable distribution trays, cabinets, and cable management/support systems; and performs tape changes and back-up necessities
- Recognizes and raises capacity concerns for infrastructure expansions needs and cabling where needed
- Performs quality checks on both cross-connects and on-site support tickets and recommends improvements
- Supports moderately difficult data center cross-connect work, requiring substantial understanding of operating procedures for: installs, terminations, modifications, and testing
- Installs and tests moderately difficult cross-connect circuits, which may include: switched, multiplexed, etc.
- Supports moderately difficult operating testing of layer 1, 2 and 3 cross-connect certification testing
- Supports the troubleshooting of moderately difficult circuits (i.e., switched, multiplexed, etc.)
- Escalates more advanced circuits and supports as needed
- Works with customers to troubleshoot issues and uses experience gained to recommend solutions
- Monitors stock levels and proactively addresses needs for materials with proper teams
- Provides escalated work order support, and supports dispatch of alarms
- May provide back-up support to security personnel, if needed
- Supports customer satisfaction through timely and precise order execution
- Delivers a high level of service and an excellent customer experience when interfacing with customers
- Provides support with time expectations on new deployments and existing alterations
- Supports customers on-site by through access control and escorting services
- Point of Contact (POC) for supporting moderately difficult customer requests, exceptions or escalations
- Supports and partners with team members on projects as directed
- Coordinates vendors for various Data Center related projects
- Performs quality assurance on new customer installation or deployments
- Completes all assigned training in a timely manner
- May provide guidance and support to more junior team members and new hires
- Typically requires a high school diploma and 2-4 years of equivalent work experience
