Job SummaryDirects day to day activities and operations of a large team of Construction/Operation Project Managers in Johor. Mentors junior team members and makes strong tactical decisions to resolve project issues. Manages construction project costs, methods, and project team selection.
Responsibilities- Provides management and leadership across a team to ensure the team's growth is in alignment with Operations' goals and strategy
- Sets goals for immediate team members
- Leads and manages medium, sometimes regional construction programs. Coordinates with internal teams, contractors, architects, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. Acts as primary point of contact for project-related matters and represents Equinix’s interests throughout the project lifecycle
- Provides guidance and project leadership including ground up construction, remodels, renovations, etc., ensuring projects meet or exceed company expectations
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables specific to data center construction
- Develops detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation tailored to Equinix’s requirements
- Conducts feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential challenges
- Ensures construction activities comply with Equinix standards, regulations, codes, and industry best practices for data centers
- Conducts regular site inspections to monitor progress and quality of work, focusing on critical systems
- Addresses quality issues or non-compliance promptly and effectively
- Identifies risks related to data center construction, including technology integration and environmental factors; develops mitigation strategies to minimize impact on timelines and budgets
- Monitors project risks and adjusts plans as needed
- Develops and maintains project schedules; coordinates with contractors and suppliers to meet milestones and resolves scheduling conflicts
- Maintains comprehensive project documentation and prepares regular status reports for leadership
- Directs up to 20 external vendors per project (General Contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.)
- Serves as main point of contact between project stakeholders and maintains alignment with project goals
- Facilitates communication and collaboration among all parties
- Manages stakeholder expectations and provides regular updates on progress
- Supports maintenance of high value relationships
- Contributes to identifying and developing training programs; engages in cross-functional training
- Conducts appropriate contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and related documents
- Mentors junior team members; directs internal and external project team members across Design, Procurement, Operations, and IT/Network support
- Contributes to creating and maintaining best-in-class policies and procedures
- 12+ years of experience in project and construction management, with at least 5 years focused on data center projects
- Proven track record of managing large-scale data center construction projects from inception to completion
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for diverse teams and stakeholders
- Proficiency in Malay (Bahasa Malaysia) is required for effective communication with clients or teams in relevant regions
- Proficient in project management software/tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations relevant to data centers (electrical systems, cooling, fire safety)
- Familiarity with data center design principles, including Tier classifications, redundancy, and scalability
- Role may require frequent site visits and occasional travel
