Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completing the corresponding engineering assignments.

- Ensuring that automation and control solutions engineering and commissioning for the allocated marine system projects efficiently and cost- effectively executed, in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements
- Collaborating on project installation, commissioning, and site activities, to clarify potential issues or provide solutions to rectify the engineering errors.
- Coaching the project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, including modelling, prototyping, and calculations.
- Leading, supervising, and coordinating teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on projects.
- Applying design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects, including modelling, prototyping, simulation, and calculations.
- Providing technical inputs to sales team & review technical proposals based on the requirements specified in customer specification.
Qualifications for the role
- You are highly skilled in design & engineering of automation system for Marine and Offshore projects.
- Ability to demonstrate your knowledge in ABB PLC series, 800XA System, various communication standards & protocols, S/W revision tracking tools, OPC & Networking.
- Possess an enhanced knowledge in commissioning of Power and Energy Management System (PEMS), ESS Solution, IAS, Remote Control System (RCS), Enhanced Powerplant protection system (EPPS) is desired.
- Degree or Masters in relevant Engineering discipline with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge on Marine Systems, classification society requirement for automation system, commissioning & trouble shooting is desired.
- You are passionate about collaborating and delivering high level of customer satisfaction.
- You are at ease communicating English.

As a Sub Project Lead Electrical Instrument Telecom - Yard, based in Johor Bahru - Malaysia, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the installation and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, and telecom (EIT) systems at the yard. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, technical standards, and contractual agreements, contributing to a reliable and sustainable electricity grid.
Your contribution to TenneT
How do you help keep the Netherlands running? As Sub Project Lead Electrical/Instrument/Telecom, you will oversee the construction of low voltage systems and telecom equipment for the delivery of three 2GW topsides and jackets at the shipyard in Malaysia. For the first 3-6 months you'll be based in Arnhem, The Netherlands. After this you will move to Johor Bahru, Malaysia on a residential basis. This role ensures construction quality, contract compliance, and technical decision-making, providing key information to the Lead Site Manager.
Additionally, You Will Be Responsible For
- Overseeing construction works, all LV electrical, instrument, and telecom systems during mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning.
- Participating in all testing and commissioning activities for the assigned scope and system integration tests.
- Lead design reviews, inspections and handovers, coordinate technical documentation reviews. Approve contractor performance for design and construction contracts and coordinate specialists in Malaysia and the Netherlands.
- Monitoring the contractor’s progress for the assigned scope, deviations and change requests (RfC). Organize technical meetings and monitor schedule & delays.
- Ensuring quality and compliance of the design and execution of the works in accordance with TenneT’s requirements and HSE compliance.
- Managing the EPCI contractor towards successful completion of the assigned scope.
This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and project management skills to ensure successful project execution.

The Sub Project Lead Electrical/Instrument/Telecom is working as part of the client’s site team on the shipyard of MMHE Malaysia and is in charge to oversee the delivery of 3 2GW topsides (30.000t) and 3 2GW jackets (10.000t) by the contractor. You are responsible to supervise all electrical (related) disciplines and activities on the yard during all phases (i.e. mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning). You will be supported by other inspectors where required. During the construction phase, you are responsible for ensuring that the contractor meets all TenneT’s requirements and that the platform is built in accordance with the design. The scope includes: low voltage equipment and systems such as auxiliary power system, LV distribution system, lighting, lightning, earthing and bonding, UPS systems, generators, telecommunication equipment, cabling, etc.
You will report to the Lead Site Manager and work together with different Sub Project Leads for Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation in the project, based in The Netherlands.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all LV electrical, instrument and telecom systems during all phases of the construction, i.e. mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning;
- Participate in all testing and commissioning activities for the assigned scope;
- Follow up on the contractor’s progress of the works for the assigned scope;
- Check for compliance of the design and execution of the works in accordance with TenneT’s requirements;
- Manage the EPCI contractor towards successful completion of the assigned scope;
- Report to the Lead Site Manager about progress, issues, etc.;
- Liaise and inform the Sub-project Lead Electrical (based in The Netherlands) on progress and particular issues, lessons learnt, etc.;
- Ensure that the execution of the works is conform the design;
- Reviewing of technical (design) documentation;
- Be involved during the equipment manufacturing phase and FATs;
- Responsible for progress and quality of the assigned scope.
