Postdoctoral Scientist Translational Cancer Biology Unit

The Translational Cancer Biology Research Unit identifies and investigates the unique and critical genetic, molecular and cellular changes underlying cancer development, particularly in cancers that disproportionately affect Asians. Our work provides insights into disease mechanisms with implications for the development of improved therapies for cancers. The unit leverages on genome-wide scale CRISPR/Cas9 screens, high throughput drug screens and other multi-omics to identify novel targets for therapeutic development, as well as uncovering the mechanism of action of drugs with their associated biomarkers and devise novel combination treatment strategies. JOB SCOPE The Postdoctoral Scientist will be responsible for delivering milestones of the research program. Specifically, he/she will be assisting the Head of the Research Unit to plan, design and conduct experiments to identify and elucidate the roles of novel immunomodulatory targets in head and neck cancer models.Besides, the Postdoctoral Scientist will also work on investigating the mechanism of action of any associated drug(s) as monotherapy and when in combination with other standard of care therapies, especially immunotherapy. The work includes using cell and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, knock-in/knock-out experiments, cell viability assays, RT-PCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, and the use of

in vitro

and

in vivo

models. The postdoctoral scientist will also be contributing towards the development of three-dimensional spheroids co-culture with immune cells, downstream functional assays and corresponding imaging techniques, establishing the complete workflow for evaluation of immunomodulatory essential genes that can be used for various cancer types. RESPONSIBILITIES To assist in establishing the study design, conducting experiments aligning with program objectives To assist the Head of the Research Unit to prepare and compete for grant applications to ensure the sustainability of the program To ensure that the research program meet external and internal milestones, and to be responsible for drafting and submitting the necessary reports. Experience and skills in molecular and cell biology (experience in animal studies will be an advantage) Experience with processing and analysing genomic and transcriptomics data Experience in presenting scientific data both in spoken (conference) or written (publication) form Experience in study design and grant writing Driven by a strong sense of making an impact, with problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution skills The ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines Adopts a pro-active attitude to work Assumes full responsibilities within role We are an independent and non-profit cancer research organisation based in Malaysia. • Provide tech support for sintered magnet mass production at Narva, Estonia.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams involving engineering and R&D at manufacturing locations and regional sales managers.
• Demonstrate competence in the use of all relevant processing, test and analytical equipment.
• Provide technical supervision to associate scientists.
• Document all phases of assigned projects; write complete reports.
• Assist in preparing patent applications/publications/meeting presentations/knowledge notes.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe workplace.
• Conduct other work as required in Materials and Magnetics Laboratories.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. degree (preferred) or master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Physics, with thesis in permanent magnetic materials (preferred in NdFeB sintered magnets).
• 0-5 years of post-graduate research experience, preferably in NdFeB sintered magnets.
• Hands-on experimental skills in NdFeB sintered magnets fabrication technology.
• Knowledge of NdFeB permanent magnets and their processing-microstructure-property relationship.
• Ability to analyze and work through technical and/or scientific problems.
• Ability to travel occasionally to our manufacturing sites in Europe and Asia.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Successful candidate will work within a R&D team developing purification process and analytics for biotherapeutics production. Main responsibilities include:

• Be able to work as a lead scientist for the development of purification process and analytics for the production of a variety of emerging biotherapeutics, such as bispecific and multi-specific antibodies, vaccines, viral vectors and nucleic acid therapies.
• Be able to lead a few research officers to work on different industrial collaboration projects and in-house projects.
• Design and execute experiments based on proposed project scopes.
• Routinely run purification systems and crossflow systems for biotherapeutics purification and handle a range of analytical equipment for biotherapeutics characterization.
• Analyze data, interpret results and plan the next step.
• Regularly update project progress in internal and external project meetings and prepare project reports.

• A PhD Degree in biochemical engineering, biochemistry, protein engineering or a related field with commensurate experience.

• Broad experience with other separation techniques, including clarification, filtration, precipitation, etc.
• Broad experience with bioassay and analytical technology, including ELISA, HPLC, PCR, SDS-PAGE, western-blot, DLS, etc.
