Position Summary We are looking for a full-time Big Data Engineer II to join our team at Shirlyn Technology in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia and Palo Alto, California. The Big Data team is at the heart of our operations, playing a critical role in scaling and optimizing our data infrastructure. Proactively monitor data pipelines, quickly diagnosing issues and taking action to resolve them and maintain system uptime. Conduct root cause analysis of data-related issues and work on long-term solutions to prevent recurring problems. Document pipeline designs, data processes, and troubleshooting procedures, keeping stakeholders informed with clear communication of updates. Provide on-call support for critical data operations, ensuring systems are running 24/7, with rotational responsibilities. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field. 5+ years of hands-on experience building and optimizing data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive, Presto, Spark, Flink). Expertise in writing complex SQL queries and proficiency in Python programming, focusing on maintainable and clean code. Solid knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Perl). Experience working in Unix/Linux environments. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. High personal integrity and professionalism in handling confidential information, exercising sound judgment. Ability to remain calm and resolve issues swiftly during high-pressure situations, adhering to SLAs. Strong leadership skills, including the ability to guide junior team members and lead projects across the team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams globally.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Data Science Analyst with expert-level Power BI skills and a strong foundation in data analysis, documentation, and communication. Key Responsibilities

Analysis & Insights

• Apply statistical techniques and data mining methods to large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations.
• Clean, transform, and validate data for analysis and reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs, business rules, and success metrics for various use cases (e.g., churn, campaign performance).
• Design and execute data validation and quality control checks across multiple pipelines.

Power BI & Visualization (Expert Level)

• Build visually intuitive, interactive, and performance-optimized Power BI dashboards to support business and client needs.
• Ensure visualizations are easily understood by non-technical users across markets and functions.
• Leverage advanced features like DAX, row-level security, bookmarks, drill-through, and paginated reports to meet business needs.
• Work closely with engineering and campaign teams to embed insights into real-time reporting solutions.

Documentation & Communication

• Prepare Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Functional Specifications (FSDs), use cases, and process flow diagrams.
• Translate complex requirements into technical tasks in collaboration with the development team.
• Document analysis outcomes and present clear narratives for internal stakeholders and client partners.
• Support the full data science lifecycle: from defining the business problem, data collection, exploration, modeling, validation, and solution delivery.
• Contribute to proof-of-concepts involving Generative AI, NLP, personalization, or best-next-action models (experience is a plus, not mandatory).

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Data Science Manager to lead and grow our Data Science team. As a Data Science Manager, you will be at the forefront of transforming data into actionable intelligence. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of data professionals to solve complex business problems using data-driven solutions that influence strategic decisions across the company. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, operations, and compliance to drive innovation and ensure the successful delivery of analytics initiatives.

This role requires not only strong technical skills in data science but also solid leadership, project management capabilities, and a collaborative mindset. Experience in agile development, sprint planning, and Jira will be highly valuable as you’ll help manage the team’s workflow and maintain high operational efficiency. A background in data product management and software engineering is a plus, enabling you to bridge technical execution with business needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data analysts, developers and engineers to execute projects from ideation to deployment.
• Oversee the development and deployment of machine learning algorithms, data science platforms and statistical analyses.
• Manage project timelines, sprint cycles, and backlog prioritization using agile methodologies.
• Collaborate closely with various other business units in the organization, engaging in their daily operations to comprehend existing processes, with the intention of enhancing operational efficiency within those business units.
• Ensure proper data governance, model validation, and documentation standards are followed.
• Present insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making.
• Evaluate and adopt the latest tools, technologies, and frameworks to maintain a modern data science stack.
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data science, programming and FinTech industry.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or experience in related fields.
• 5+ years of experience in data science with at least 2-3 years in a managerial or lead role.
• Strong proficiency in Python & R, SQL, and machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, etc.).
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Quicksight).
• Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
• Proven track record of delivering impactful data projects that influence business outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced agile development environment.
• Experience with software engineering practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and testing frameworks.
• Familiarity with agile project management, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and using tools such as Jira or Trello.
• Proven experience as a Data Product Manager or working closely with product teams to shape data products and solutions.
• Strong project management skills, with a track record of managing timelines, stakeholders, and cross-functional collaboration.
