Your Mission

Design, deploy, and maintain high-performance backend systems using Python and AWS. You’ll be developing the backbone of our architecture, working alongside frontend developers, data engineers, and DevOps specialists to deliver resilient, scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop secure, high-performance Python APIs micro-services for AI/web applications.
• Develop integrations with data stores such as RDBMS (MySQL, MSSQL), NoSQL (DynamoDB, OpenSearch), and cloud storage (AWS S3).
• Develop integrations with messaging and third-party APIs as required by projects.
• Develop unit tests
• Cloud-Native Development
• Deploy and host Python API on AWS Lambda , preferably using infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
• Develop CI/CD pipeline and deployment automation.
• Familiarity with design best practices around serverless (AWS Lambda), containers (Dockers), and event-driven architectures.

Requirements

• Technical Expertise
• 3+ years of Python backend development and web application development.
• Hands-on experience with AWS (Lambda, S3, RDS, EC2) and infrastructure-as-code. Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms can be considered.
• Proficiency in database design (RDBMS/NoSQL) and API optimization.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools (Git, CI/CD pipelines).
• Familiarity with Container services such as Docker/Kubernetes is an advantage.
• Familiarity with developing or integrating GenAI is an advantage.

Reporting to the Group Engineering Manager, BigPay’s development department is responsible for building and maintaining the software which runs the BigPay service.

We are a strongly integrated, high performing team whose members enjoy considerable autonomy, and in which you will be expected to take responsibility for significant projects, develop your skills and mentor other members of your team.

We’re looking for Backend Developers to write and maintain software which our 1m customers trust with their money 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

About The Job

You will be responsible for building code that supports the financial futures of our users, by:

• Understanding the requirements of our core payment system and of new financial products and features
• Working closely in a cross-functional team with members of our product, QA and DevOps groups to deliver products on time and within budget.
• Performing PR reviews and communicating your work to the wider development team.
• Consulting with product owners and other stakeholders about the implications and future directions of your work.
  
  

BigPay operates on a core + elective basis, so you will also be encouraged to participate in some of:

• Performing PR reviews and mentoring more junior members of the team
• Managing feature delivery and release for your team
• Providing input into architecture and specification
• Maintaining our toolsets and deployment pipelines
• Writing about our work for the outside world in blogs, white papers and so forth.
  
  

To Be Successful You Should Have

• Any level of experience in software development - A good first degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• An enthusiasm for technology and an ability to learn new things quickly.
• To be a self-starter, willing to take responsibility for deliverables and able to organize to deliver.

Reporting to the Group Engineering Manager, BigPay’s development department is responsible for building and maintaining the software which runs the BigPay service.

We are a strongly integrated, high performing team whose members enjoy considerable autonomy, and in which you will be expected to take responsibility for significant projects, develop your skills and mentor other members of your team.

We’re looking for Backend Developers to write and maintain software which our 1m customers trust with their money 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

About The Job

You will be responsible for building code that supports the financial futures of our users, by:

Understanding the requirements of our core payment system and of new financial products and features Working closely in a cross-functional team with members of our product, QA and DevOps groups to deliver products on time and within budget. Performing PR reviews and communicating your work to the wider development team. Consulting with product owners and other stakeholders about the implications and future directions of your work.

BigPay operates on a core + elective basis, so you will also be encouraged to participate in some of:

Performing PR reviews and mentoring more junior members of the team Managing feature delivery and release for your team Providing input into architecture and specification Maintaining our toolsets and deployment pipelines Writing about our work for the outside world in blogs, white papers and so forth.

To be successful

You Should Have

Any level of experience in software development - A good first degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. An enthusiasm for technology and an ability to learn new things quickly. To be a self-starter, willing to take responsibility for deliverables and able to organize to deliver.

Experience with the following will be helpful but is not essential:

Rust or C++ Spring Boot Kafka Docker or other container technologies React or Angular Python

• Participate in the design and development of core platform services, delivering high-performance and scalable service components.

• Hands-on experience with microservice architecture and related components such as service discovery, rate limiting, circuit breaking, and configuration centers.
• Familiar with core infrastructure components such as messaging systems (e.g., Kafka), caching (e.g., Redis), and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience with data platforms, real-time processing (e.g., Flink, Spark), or distributed systems development is a strong advantage.

All about the role:

Our cloud-based, API-driven platform is the backbone for all our Software products which we deploy on worldwide markets. This is where we store data from appliances and users and build both generic and product specific functionality. We develop our own user experiences as well as together with third party developers. In this position we are looking forSenior Backend Developers who understand how to create a great modular, scalable and extendable architecture that serves both generic and application specific needs. We operate DevOps-style on both Microsoft Azure and AWS and we combine PaaS services, open source components and building our own modules depending on what solves the problem with the least complexity at the time.


What you’ll do:

•Analyzing needs together with product managers, UX and other developers
• Participating in product design sessions with specific input on technical feasibility, scalability, extendibility, performance, and maintainability
• Designing and operating solutions using a suitable combination of Cloud-native PaaS services, open source components and implementation in mostly Java
• Participating in team activities including OKR’s, sprint planning, scrum stand-ups, demos and retros
• Taking active part in team improvements in process, tools, technology and communication
• Contributing to the product delivery through writing of the clean code according to set code style

Who You Are:

• 3+ years of experience in developing systems in .Net products

• Experience in working with geo-distributed teams

About the role:

As a Backend Engineer , you independently plan, develop, implement and test software programs that are easy to maintain, modular, well documented, and resource efficient

As a Backend Engineer, you will:

• Be a core member of the Backend Engineering team and maintain our best-in-class product, a Java based micro-services architecture that is fully cloud hosted on AWS.
• Work alongside other engineers on the team to maintain technology standards and participate actively in code reviews, assisting with the application of standards around i.e. software quality, security, and correctness.
• Perform operational procedures, including ongoing maintenance, on runtime systems, both manual and automated, in accordance with company standards.
• Participate in the broader process of defining system architecture - both in terms of software and systems.
• Provide recommendations for continuous improvement to the product and delivery process.

Our Technical Environment

• Our next generation payments platform has been developed using Java – specifically leveraging the Spring Boot framework
• Our infrastructure is hosted on AWS; using a mixture of containerization (Fargate) and vanilla EC2
• We use Amazon MQ (RabbitMQ) as message broker to enable asynchronous communication between services
• Our systems are secure and highly available – we have implemented passive and active monitoring and incident escalation using a combination of Datadog, CloudWatch Logs and Metrics, Postman, and Pagerduty
• We utilise GraphQL (leveraging Apollo and Hasura) to open up our rich data model to internal and external stakeholders
• We develop frontend systems using the Vue, Angular, and Ionic frameworks
• We aggregate and analyze logs from all of our systems via the ELK stack
• Our operating system of choice is CentOS and our DevSecOps team is fanatical about security, monitoring, and patch management
• Our infrastructure is immutable and managed using IaC principles via Terraform
• We leverage build automation (specifically CircleCI), and we’re working toward continuous deployment across all environments
• We take advantage of AWS services to meet our various technology requirements:
• PostgreSQL databases run on Aurora Serverless or Aurora clusters managed via RDS
• Redis clusters are managed via ElastiCache
• KMS provides managed security services
• AWS Lambda and API Gateway support our serverless infrastructure; DynamoDB is also an important part of our stack
