Tenby Schools Setia Eco Park is a special place where all successes are celebrated, from academic, music and drama performances, eco-awards to sporting events. The busy school is on a 20-acre purpose-built campus that is equipped with modern facilities for learning and teaching. The Campus consists of two schools – an international school that follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), National Curriculum for England (UK), IGCSE and A-Level programmes; and a Malaysian private school, Sekolah Sri Tenby, following the Malaysian curriculum.

ISP Commitment to Safeguarding Principles

Head of International Primary School

Purpose of Role

To lead and maintain improvements in the International Primary School. Ensure that amazing learning happens and that the school provides varied and exciting experiences for young people and develops knowledge, skills and understanding so that they have successful futures. To ensure that colleagues are supported and provide amazing learning by setting high expectations and providing continuous development. To lead on safeguarding all members of the community. To lead the growth of the International Primary School.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Vision and Strategy - Focus on the four key areas of the School vision – Learning, Experiences, Community and Futures. Planning for long term strategic improvement in the primary school aligned with the campus development plan, purpose and core values.
  • Learning and embedding Quality - Lead on, improve, and monitor the level of learning of young people and the teaching in the primary school. Improve, maintain and support excellent progress and attainment in the primary school.
  • Wellbeing and safety - responsible, along with the DSL (if not the Head of Primary) for safeguarding and wellbeing in the primary school. To ensure safer recruitment procedures lead to successful recruitment practices.
  • Leadership and Development - Lead, inspire and develop senior leaders, middle leaders, teachers, and administrative staff in the primary school.
  • Commercial Success and KPI's - Be accountable for the budget of the primary school.
  • Marketing, Admissions and Communication - Raise the profile and establish the primary school as the 'School of Choice' in the local area. Lead on marketing and admissions procedures to provide growth for the Interntaional Primary School.
  • Partnership with ISP – To work with and contribute to the wider group and articulate the benefits.

Specific Responsibilities

Vision

  • Put learning central to decision making.
  • Ensure that students have experiences beyond the classroom that mean the school is offering a truly international and varied experience.
  • Be a leader and member of the community bringing together students, teachers and staff and liaising with all stakeholders positively.
  • Make sure that students have a variety of opportunities for their future pathway and have received the support and information to make the most of them.

Learning and Teaching

  • Lead the Deputy Head in Charge of Learning and Teaching relating to strategic planning.
  • Work with SLT to devise and lead a CPD programme that supports improvement for all staff.
  • Conduct learning visits providing feedback for teachers on the level of learning in their lessons and ways to improve.
  • Be up to date with recent developments in learning and teaching.
  • Focus on the learning in the school as much as the factors that affect learning.
  • Celebrate 'Amazing Learning' in the school community by students and adults.
  • Teach a very small timetable and be able to evidence outstanding learning in their classroom.
  • Have high expectation and hold teachers to account for the level of learning in their classrooms in a supportive and developmental way.

Safeguarding

  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the primary school if another senior leader is not appointed.
  • Put the safety, wellbeing of our young people above everything else. To be a public reminder that this is important to students, staff and parents.
  • Know and uphold the safeguarding, child protection, safer recruitment and whistleblowing polices and any other policies related to safeguarding.
  • Take any disclosures and accusations seriously and follow correct procedure in investigating alongside the campus DSL, Principal and HR if needed.
  • Train other staff on safeguarding issues and procedures.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of safeguarding related policies and procedures at a campus level.

Strategic Planning

  • Lead on the development of a school development plan involving SLT and any other appropriate staff.
  • Ensure that the school priorities align with the school vision and the Campus Development Plan.
  • Monitor the implementation and evaluate the success of the plan including holding owners of actions accountable.
  • Effectively communicate the plan to all stakeholders, inspiring colleagues, and parents.
  • Develop a clear long-term view for improvement in the primary school using evidence to support.
  • Contribute to campus strategic planning and the Learning Improvement Plan.

People Development

  • Lead and inspire senior leaders in the primary school setting individual aspirational targets and supporting their completion.
  • Identify potential leaders in the school and provide pathways to career progression supporting the sustainability of the school.

  • Buy into, demonstrate and inspire an attitude of self-reflection, self-improvement and sharing of best practice.

  • Make sure that all teachers receive the support and opportunities to improve through internal or external pathways.
  • Recruit staff that will embrace the school culture.

Effective Financial Leadership

  • Oversee the operational expenditure of the primary school and ensure spending is effective and efficient.
  • Contribute to campus discussions and plans on capital expenditure.

Student Progress and Attainment

  • Ensure there are effective systems in place to record and track progress and attainment and that this data is then used to intervene where needed and support further progress.
  • Generate a culture of high expectations.
  • Use external benchmarks to assess internal assessment data.
  • Maintain positive trends in summative external qualifications, leading SLT members to analyse results producing actions.

Marketing and Admissions

  • Work with the marketing and admissions department to discuss plans and content to raise the profile of the primary school.
  • Contribute to campus planning on marketing content.
  • Be aware of enrolment numbers and supportive of actions to maintain positive trends such as open days and events
  • Have a retention strategy to maintain families.
