Job Summary:The Deputy Head of Academic is responsible for ensuring academic excellence, operational effectiveness, and compliance of all academic programs at the college campus. This role will lead the academic team, manage curriculum and assessment matters, support faculty performance, and ensure student success through continuous quality improvement, aligned with both regulatory requirements and UNITAR Education Group’s standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Academic Excellence and Compliance
- Lead and manage the academic department to achieve the highest standards of excellence.
- Ensure timely submission of documents and information to comply with regulatory bodies (e.g., MOHE, MQA).
- Coordinate and manage audits and inspections by MOHE and MQA.
- Ensure alignment and adoption of Group Faculty Strategy at the local level.
- Ensure academic quality and compliance with both group and faculty standards.
- Approve curriculum changes and adaptations for the local college.
- Oversee the implementation of program initiatives from the Group.
- Academic Program Management
- Plan semester course offerings and class schedules (homegrown and RC).
- Enroll students in subjects before the semester begins.
- Oversee program portfolio development, enhancement, and improvements in line with market and academic demands.
- Monitor faculty performance targets for each program offered at the local college.
- Submit program and faculty performance reports to the Executive Deans.
- Teaching & Learning
- Teach related subjects (maximum of 21 hours per week) and serve as Course Leader for selected courses.
- Prepare and update CRF (Course Revision Form) and PRF (Programme Review Form).
- Input and update coursework marks in the Academic Board system.
- Student Success & Coaching
- Monitor student performance and implement coaching/mentoring for poor-performing students.
- Conduct counseling sessions and academic interventions, including warning letters as per SOP.
- Organize and conduct face-to-face consultations (e.g., Hari Bertemu Pelanggan) for students and parents.
- Assessment & Exam Management
- Prepare examination schedules and assign invigilators.
- Ensure timely collection, submission, and coordination of final examination papers.
- Key-in final exam marks and ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Ensure all assessments and related processes adhere to quality requirements at the local level.
- Monitor student attendance and implement intervention for students with excessive absences.
- Notify parents when students miss three consecutive sessions.
- Follow up with dropouts and deferred students to encourage re-registration.
- Helpdesk & Student Complaints
- Manage student feedback and complaints on academic matters.
- Ensure prompt resolution and documentation of all feedback received.
- Program Activities
- Organize and supervise activities that are academically relevant to the programs offered.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Group Coordination
- Coordinate with HQ to implement initiatives for the local college including:
- Employer & Alumni Engagement
- Research Initiatives
- Teaching & Learning Enhancement
- APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning)
- Learning & Development (training for lecturers at the center)
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in academic management within higher education.
- Familiarity with MOHE, MQA requirements, and curriculum development processes.
- Strong leadership and team management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with academic operations and teaching methodologies.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and student-centric approach.
